Humeur actuelle :  plein d’espoir
Sitting in the doctors surgery with Thomas limp and sick in my arms yet again on Tuesday I really wasn't expecting anything to change.
I mentioned to my GP that I have to wait until November to get results back from the Royal Childrens Hospital.  He promptly rang them and had all Thomas's test faxed across to him.  Flipping through the results he stopped, looked up at me and said "Thomas has coeliacs disease." On his Coeliac Screen his TTG IgA levels- which have a normal range of 0-20 were at 288.
That explains a LOT... No wonder he's susceptible to everything that's going around when his immune system is soo busy fighting this allergy in his body all the time.  Part of me is pretty annoyed at his Paed- who I think should have done  (general) blood tests ages ago.  He really has this air of "she'll be right" ... Didn't even raise an eyebrow when Thomas had inguinal and auricular lymph nodes the size of golfballs for months on end. Derrr... Careless prick, obviously even back then his body was showing outward signs of his immune system struggling but the specialist just couldn't be bothered following it up.
I've been on the phone this morning organising an emergency appointment for him with a gastroenterologist from the Royal Childrens Hospital.  I can wait 6 months for him to be seen publicly- or I can part with nearly $800 and get him seen Monday.  Obviously I'm getting him seen Monday. I think I will live out the rest of my life in the red now :( Everytime I catch up on bills etc- something comes up! guh... Mind you- it will be well worth it.
The shift to a gluten a free diet is gonna be a big challenge- my whole family will be affected. And in fact I have to take them all off to be tested too.
But still- he'll be able to absorb nutrients from food better, and he won't get sick nearly as often because his immune system won't be on permanent overload.

It's odd- but I'm thankful for a diagnosis! I'm so used to NOT knowing what the hell is wrong that I didn't really ever expect an explanation...
