There is poetry at the Cantab Lounge every Wednesday night, year-round. Our rotating cast of hosts is led by SlamMaster Simone Beaubien. Cover charge is $3.00
Open mic for all begins at 8:00 p.m. You may arrive as early as 7:30 for sign-up. Poems may be on any subject, and you may read more than one, but we ask that you keep your time on the mic to three minutes.
Directions:
From Rhode Island or Cape Cod, take 93 North to the MassPike West to Exit 18 to Central Square Cambridge.
Watch out! It's a LEFT exit and the people here drive like lunatics. After the tollbooth, follow signs for Central Square. 1.2 miles from the tollbooth, you'll hit Mass Ave at right angles.
At this intersection, the Cantab is less than one block to your LEFT ("north"), but you can't take a left there. So: cross MassAve and go around the block by making LEFTs. After your final LEFT onto MassAve again, the Cantab comes up quickly on your RIGHT ("west").

Many of us are left struggling to just maintain a sense of "proper" existence from a time period of 2008 back until 2000. A lot has happened in the last nine years. Enough for us to know that inherently there is "something wrong" ...and that something has "been wrong" for quite awhile. Through the increasing police actions, wars and other state violence; millions of families losing their homes due to the greed of the home lending industry; corruption, self serving interests and incompetence in our elected leaders; record gas prices AND profits; and a turning of our society like a key - we still as people try to maintain some sense of normalcy and tell ourselves that "everything will be OK." Everything won't be OK. The destiny of the future lies in the power of our hands, minds and actions today. Where do we stand as a culture and a global society? How much interest does the average person have in the affairs of the global powers in this world? How can we create change when we are blind to the most powerful instruments of control around us? The next 40 months will probably determine the course of our planet and it's life for hundreds of years. We are at a pivotal point in our existence as a species on this planet. Many people believe these changes may be the best that has happened to us - or the worst. Regardless - there is a undeniable sense of serious change and reformation coming to our country and this world. To everyone who never thought of their actions mattering, I'd quote Culture: Be careful of the things you do - the everyday words you speak. All of our cumulative energy, actions and thoughts always matters. Remember that.
