"As far as I'm concerned, age goes like this: first, you're a baby. Then you're a kid, you're a kid, you're a kid. Then, suddenly, people are offering you their seat on the bus. How and why this happens is one of the mysteries of the universe which will never be solved unless science comes up with proof that age is an illusion, confirming what artists, female and male, have known all along."
-Natalie d'Arbeloff

wow... I missed this one in the theater and finally rented it last week. A bloated catastrophe of false advertising: to get our attention they plastered some sword wielding chick with warpaint tattoos all over the movie posters and previews- (hey that's pretty original right? post modern ninja babe? awesome)
She was in the movie for about 2 minutes and had one line. She was in one fight where she attacks the unarmed, unsympathetic, forgettable main character and gets her head cut off.
I mean I don't get it; sure Hollywood puts out crap pretty frequently, as a citizen of the biggest entertainment economy in the world I'm ok with that- but when you create a preview for an entirely different movie than the film you are actually making- that's really hitting below the belt. The Road-Warrior ripoff-ness of the film (in other words the only scenes they show in the preview) actually accounts for about 15 minutes of a two hour movie.
If the main femme fatale cop had been shot in the first 5 minutes it would have been a better movie; the sword bearing babe with the warpaint was a better actress and she had one line.
So despite working in the entertainment biz, and collecting movies that feature hotties with big swords for example; in my professional opinion Doomsday sucked ass.
At least I will sleep well at night knowing they are working on a bloody remake of Red Sonja :D

Love is Forever But forever outlasts All human theories And so we need new ones-
New definitions, for the Eternal verities of Life. And as we awake to colors we cannot imagine, to music no ear has heard, and to all the joys of Soul which cannot, or WILL not translate for our blinded senses, we will come into fullness as the Divine symphony of idea-
Unlimited, unassailable, unchanging as that Mind which made us- expressing the ONE each in our own way, through our inspiration, thought, and action until the gift of the REAL wins us over, and the expression of body transcends to glorious form, breaching time, releasing death, and leaving every shadow of despair to retreat into nothingness, Forever.

"Time is the illusion that veils God from our sight"
"The claim of material limitation is a test the whole world must pass in order to reach Truth."
"It is not death that the agnostic fears, but conscious oblivion. Yet presence of consciousness requires the absence of death- hence it should hold no more fear than dreamless sleep, and the same expectation of waking."
"We are all here on a mission of love- that is, all that is required of us is to discover what we love the most."
i'm definitely a student of glass-half-full philosophy

anyway, it's 1am and i'm looking for excuses to not work so i typed up a 50wd essay and sent it in for China's "New Thinker" contest. winner gets to carry the torch for a few miles or something. The first line makes me feel like I'm back in middle school- but every submission has to start w that. if i had to present it in class i'd probably fidget behind my back and stare at the ceiling too...
"I'm a New Thinker because... I believe that for the first time in human history science, philosophy, and religion are beginning to find common truths. I believe that the energy of harmony and love that binds us all becomes more apparent as the world shrinks with the expansion of global communication. We stand poised to uncover higher laws of life and peace that leave no one behind. We must outgrow fear, let crumbling materialism run its course, and focus on the power to be found in good."
yeah baby yeah.

I came across an amazing article on a man named Morihei Ueshiba, often called O Sensei (the Great Teacher) who was born in 1883 and became the founder of the Japanese martial art of Aikido- an art that uses the energy of an opponent's attack against him, rather than offensive strikes.
Ueshiba was first and foremost a teacher, but also an undefeated warrior able to subdue men with swords while he was unarmed, as well as multiple opponents at once even up into his 80s. His inspiration was attributed to three spiritual "awakenings" that he had, the first of which came in 1925, which i find quite inspiring. He experienced this vision after defeating an army officer who attacked with a bokken (a wooden sword) without the sword ever touching him, and without harming the officer.
"I felt the universe suddenly quake, and that a golden spirit sprang up from the ground, veiled my body, and changed my body into a golden one. At the same time my body became light. i was able to understand the whispering of the birds, and was clearly aware of the mind of God, the creator of the universe.
At that moment i was enlightened: the source of budo is God's love - the spirit of loving protection for all beingsi. Budo is not the felling of an opponent by force; nor is it a tool to lead the world to destruction with arms. True Budo is to accept the spirit of the universe, keep the peace of the world, correctly produce, protect and cultivate all beings in nature."
