2010 Short-Bio:
2010 is set to be huge for independent success story “Very Unique Existence”. Hailing from Byron Bay the band has managed to secure appearances on Video hits, extensive commercial radio airplay both nationally and abroad as well as major supports with bands such as The Butterfly Effect, The Rogue Traders and Kate Miller Heidke in two years off the back of an EP that is now set to take metro commercial radio by storm.
But that’s all fact and figures, achievements and highlights, which the band can boast more of than most major label bands, with just fan and family support and sheer determination as fuel.
The real deal however with Very Unique Existence is their unique ecletic music, and live vibe. Self defined as “Positive Consciousness Rock” the band donate part proceeds from each gig to a charity within the town they play, and focuses their music and lyrics along with their show on delivering “positive energy”. What else would you expect from a ....Byron.. ..Bay.... band you might ask?! But there is something going on here wrapped in beautifully crafted electic Pop/Rock, that can’t be pinned down to hippy ideals.
Very Unique Existence are connecting with people, in a simplistic, single message, single song by song method that doesn’t cliché the age old concept of “music for change”. Each song is a little pill of positivity that gets inside you with a humble and almost naïve concept and bubbles out through sound and melody to make you “feel positive” and the fans base of loyal believers in the revolution of positivity are a testament to it’s credibility. God knows we could all use some positive energy right now!
--- October 2009 -
Musicians with a conscience give tocharity after every gig!
Very Unique Existence say the world is in trouble, but they want to do their bit to improve the situation
‘IT IS better to give than to receive’ may be the mantra for local band Very Unique Existence. Each gig they perform is actually a fundraiser. The band have decided that a portion of what they earn will go to a charity of their choice each time they entertain the crowds. “We throw it out there when deciding on the charity we support,” co-founder, guitarist and vocalist Rich Latimer said. “Recently an upset fan talked to us about the floods in the Philippines so some of our proceeds will go there this weekend.” Latimer believes that while some kids join bands to ‘enjoy’ the drugs and alcohol lifestyle VUE is taking their message in a very different direction. “We’re at a time in the world where if we don’t do something, we’re in trouble,” he said. “We’re doing our little bit. We are much more than just a rock band.
"The fans we’re developing are people with strong heart and soul connections but also like rock.” Latimer classes their music as positive consciousness rock which can be defined as ‘spreading positive energy and consciousness’. “People can’t understand that we give quite a bit of our sales away,” he said. “That we would give money to people beyond our family and friends”.
The band is about to put their positive consciousness words into action by performing a number of ‘Awareness Shows’ developed in consultation with Paul Johnson, co-founder of Brain Storm Productions. The shows are described as the only real world pop/ rock delivered, edutainment performance of its kind. Meanwhile, the next two gigs/fundraisers of VUE will be tomorrow night at the Lennox Point Hotel at 8pm with donations going to Ballina Coast Care and on Saturday night at the Billinudgel Hotel. Money raised will go to the Philippine Flood Victims. It starts at 2pm and is free and unplugged. – Samantha Elley
--- July 2009 - Review of Live performance in Pulse
Very Unique Existence, this Byron Bay quartet truly is one of a kind
If the Lennox Point Hotel had Chandeliers people would've been hanging from them during last Friday's gig by A Very Unique Existence. The band's set, well and truly disrupted any curfews to be home by midnight. Tunes howled through the windows and over to the beach keeping most punters bopping until the last riff.
The energy and happy-go-lucky stage presence showed these guys are not simply a no-name pub band there for cash and beers. Their tunes rival the dynamic energy of The Kaiser Chiefs and riffs match the fast pace of Rise Against. But what puts the 'unique' in their name is that they don't follow your average rock/indie formula. Ads Gardiner (drums), Rich Latimer (vocals), Wez Seewald (keys) and bassist Ben Grace (filling in for Mick Harris) have clearly gone around with a net, catching many different sounds and seamlessly crafted them together.
At one stage, when the Byron quartet broke into a sweet reggae jam, Wez ripped off his shirt revealing a yellow singlet that signaled his allegiance to Jamaica, It was quickly put back on for the next song but for a moment the crowd was floating along the Caribbean on the crest of sweet keyboard licks and beats with that ol' Jamaica feel.
Throughout the set the musical bonding was top-notch, and their originality cuts them out as a class apart from their peers. Perhaps if the songs were introduced more and there was added storytelling, the crowd would have a hard time distinguishing the band from the pack of friends they came with. Towards the end, Tsunami pumped throught the PA causing a torrent of movemnet on the dance floor. With songs as punchy as this, we will no doubt see great material on upcoming album Hear the Heart (slated for late '09 relelase). -Joe Lewis

Very
Unique Existence Frontman Rich Latimer caught up with Rolling Stone
Magazine Editor Dan Lander to discuss the band's concept positive consciousness rock and their upcoming debut album Heartheart in stores everywhere later this year...
What’s Up With . . . Very Unique Existence
WHO:
These days, most people claim they’re doing their bit to save the
world. But talk is cheap, and that’s what makes Byron Bay band Very
Unique Existence so different. “We donate part proceeds from CD sales
and ticket sales from every single thing that we do to a charity in the
locale of that event,” explains guitarist/singer Rich Latimer. “So, if
we play in a town some of themoney from that show goes back tothe local
community.” It’s part ofwhat the band define as “positive consciousness
rock”, the idea thatmusic can be used as conduit forsomething bigger,
from savingforests to getting kids off the street.“Without being too
high-minded, pretentious and spiritual-bullshit about it,” continues
Latimer, “we’re writing music that comes from a place of consciousness
shifting within us, with the hopes that it maybe a pointer to the
listener.”
BACKSTORY Latimer – who founded the group with bass
player Mick Harris in 2004, augmented in 2007 by keyboardist Wes
Seewald and new drummer Ads Gardiner this year – still works between
band commitments, finding employment for the seriously down and out.
"Basically they send people to methat have just lost all motivation and think
that our society is a fucking total load of shit,” he says. “Little
dothey know I agree with them!” Recently, V.U.E. have been notching up
some big supporters, including Pete Murray (a regular at their shows) and John Collins from Powderfinger.
“[Collins] was onradio in Sydney the other day,” says Latimer, “and the
presenter said, ‘It’s great that Powderfinger are doing a charity thing
like this,’ and in response he said, ‘Yeah, it is good, but there’s this band from Byron Bay that do it every single gig.’”
WHAT'S NEXT V.U.E. have just finished recording their debut record,
Heartheart. Like the band itself, the record has a heavyconcept,
featuring a continuity of songs that Latimer hopes will open minds
everywhere. “It’s a record for people to go on a little journey of
consciousness, all wrapped up tidily in eclectic pop rock,” he says.
“This is more than a concept album – this is a personal consciousness
shift journey record.”

--- October 2008 - Very Unique Existence Headline Greenfest 2008 ---
Very Unique Existence are a Byron Bay pop-rock band with a powerful message. They are headlining Brisbane’s Greenfest, which has been boldly dubbed as this decade’s Woodstock. Tsunami’s Carolyn Garner spoke to the band’s lead singer, Rich Latimer, about his quest for social change.
The self-proclaimed ‘positive consciousness band’ (meaning the proceeds of their touring shows go towards the community in which they play), have also established something called the Social Music Project, which involves suggestions, lyrics and input from the general public. Their MySpace page is a forum for people to share their ideas and thoughts, which are frequently adopted by the band. The band are advocates for changing the way people go about their daily lives and are relishing in the opportunity to be part of a festival with the same social message. “It’s just the nature of us guys. All of us are just positively charged… It feels good to be doing something positive; that’s what we are about,” says Latimer.
Originating from Byron Bay, the stereotype would suggest they sport dreadlocks and play folk music, yet their pop rock sound and look are quite the contrary. “To be honest with you, it has been really hard for Very Unique Existence to communicate and get across clearly what the band is about because we don’t have dreadies, we don’t play acoustic guitar and we’re not doing the bluesy-rootsy stuff,” admits Latimer. The frontman believes the festival will be a catalyst for social change. “Changing the way people think and feel about stuff is the underlying message. Before you are going to change your ecological footprint, something is going to have to happen to you,” he says. Very Unique Existence and festival creators alike are hoping the festival will be that something; creating a situation where “people come to an event thinking, living and operating in one way, and leave the event thinking, feeling and operating in another way”.
As Latimer emphasises the festival’s message with such passion and conviction, it is clear why Very Unique Existence are headlining the event, and why their song, ‘Looking Down’, was chosen as the festival’s theme song. He audaciously compares Greenfest to the Woodstock of the naughties. “It’s not just environmental; it’s a social thing. In all honesty, I think it’s like Woodstock - this decade’s version of Woodstock. I just hope people get it…Woodstock was meant to be a symbol of change and peace sort of thing. And this is even more real than that - this is free.”
When asked what he hoped would come from the festival, Latimer says “change”, with a long pause, as if no other word could possibly sum it up. “That’s it… Like actually change your life, change the way you live and do it right now… I really hope when we perform that night at Greenfest we can communicate that vibe, because that is what is important to us. One aspect of that change is the environmentally charged stuff, but there are many other things; like looking at the way you operate socially.”
Very Unique Existence are playing at Greenfest, which will be held at South Bank from Friday October 10 to Sunday October 12.

-- Jan 2008 - Byron Bay Band Very Unique Existence break through, independent success story! ---....
Big vocals, classic rock, great hooks! Referential to the past but considered and delivered with enough confidence to be considered contemporary.' – Todd Wagstaff (AnR Legend signed The veronicas, The Vines, and Holly Valance)
In this time of transition from the traditional major label model to a more artist driven industry many barriers still exist for a young act aspiring to commercial recognition but one new aussie band from the new south wales north coast seems to be breaking them down quite comfortably with radio adds both in Australia and the USA as well as Retail Chain airplay in Europe.....
'When it comes to inde bands today, you wouldn't be surprised to find them two for one at Aldi. Very Unique Existence however, definitely aren't your bargain bin variety. With their debut Ep receiving airplay from the US to France and their reputation as a crowd pleasing act spreading through pubs and clubs across Australia, these four Byron Bay boys look set to stir up the scene' – The Music Network Jan 21st 2008....
Since testing songs mid 2007 on an early issue of their EP and receiving spot plays on Triple J, MMM Brisbane and regional stations as well as amassing a huge presence on myspace with an intriguing idea of fully involving their audience and feedback in all aspects of the bands career -all leading to the current figure of 99000 plays and counting. The new remastered, repackaged CD now includes a bonus DVD and has already scored the band the Music Network Hit Pic and Emerging Artist piece in the Jan 18th issue.
This has already resulted in no less than 16 ATB Adds(see Feb 4 TMN) across regional commercial radio across NSW and Queensland for the first single 'Take It Easy' with commitment to second single 'Pop Song' and third 'Looking Down' - stations such as NEW FM, 2ZZZ, Power, Max, Hot 91, 104.7 Grafton and many more have all embraced the bands own self defined brand of 'Positive Consciousness Rock' .The SBA Network have added both the single and video while Mood Media/DMX have taken things one step further with 4 of the five tracks added to their play lists and the single championed as the number one pick from Australia for their European Channels-see www.moodmedia.com.au
The European response is totally in line with the bands strategy of expanding their audience reach using new technologies to get their music everywhere possible and the USA is no exception - the simultaneous radio push going on there as we speak has so far resulted in the band breaking into the TOP 30 College Radio charts in only the second week of promotion with some stations reporting Top 10 plays as well as high level rotation to over 2.5 million internationally on the Moozikoo and Radio X network.
To back up the release there is a 45 date regional and metro tour already booked which commenced where else but the Beach Hotel in Byron on Jan 31st - the tour takes in towns such as Lismore, The Gold Coast, Bellingen, Port Macquarie and more before heading into the cities - for full tour dates see http://www.thevue.com.auThe CD EP with bonus DVD clip (high rotation on Nightlife Video) is distributed by MGM and with more radio support sure to come on board and management already sniffing the future looks bright for these 4 guys from Byron Bay.
Blending influences from Silverchair to the lighter side of Kyuss, Take it Easy will play well on multi-formats. The group, which has built a strong fan base by actively involving fan feedback into song writing and delivering rocking live shows locally and internationally, is a more than healthy introduction to local radio. Don't take it easy on adding this one! The Music Network JAN 18 2008
'Very Unique Existence have created something that first grabs a hold of you tight and close then all of a sudden lifts you to dizzy heights' - Beat Magazine - DEC 2007....

This blog will be an active diary of the tours/gigs Very Unique Existence does and the charities supported by those gigs as part of their "Positive Consciousness Rock Projects". It will also contain feedback from our fans about what Very Unique Existence and 'Positive Consciousness Rock' means to them! So firstly, what is 'Positive Consciousness Rock' ???? 1. The foundational concept of the band 'Positive Consciousness Rock' is: the delivery of music, lyrics, songs that have an intentional positive impact on the listener. It's an energy thing, and intention thing, and it's what motivates this band. At a practical level this 'Positive Consciousness Rock' is defined by the fact that the band donate 10% to 20% of every proceeds from every show they do to a local active charity in the town they are playing, along with supporting aid abroad. People know that when they support this band by coming to shows or buying music, that it's being distributed as well back through their own community and they like the feeling of engaging with a group that has this level of universal consciousness as a constant, not as a one off.

"Basically they send people to methat have just lost all motivation and think that our society is a fucking total load of shit,” he says. “Little dothey know I agree with them!” Recently, V.U.E. have been notching up some big supporters, including Pete Murray (a regular at their shows) and John Collins from Powderfinger. “[Collins] was onradio in Sydney the other day,” says Latimer, “and the presenter said, ‘It’s great that Powderfinger are doing a charity thing like this,’ and in response he said, ‘Yeah, it is good, but there’s this band from Byron Bay that do it every single gig.’”
WHAT'S NEXT V.U.E. have just finished recording their debut record, Heartheart. Like the band itself, the record has a heavyconcept, featuring a continuity of songs that Latimer hopes will open minds everywhere. “It’s a record for people to go on a little journey of consciousness, all wrapped up tidily in eclectic pop rock,” he says. “This is more than a concept album – this is a personal consciousness shift journey record.”

Hey!! This blog is a diary of short posts by Mick, Wes, Rich and Ads, updated with new posts all the time so check back regularly or subscribe to the RSS Feed!! We also have a QIK Video Blog which is streamed live to keep you up to date on whats happening with the band and gives you a snippets of these diary entries as they happened.
Formed in 2004 in the beautiful Byron Bay, Very Unique Existence started their journey as Rich Latimer (Guitar/VOX) Chris Boniface (Drums) and Mick Harris (Bass/vox) making a raw-rock ep "Open" at www.topcatstudios.com as the result of winning Jim Beam band competition. This helped them establish gigs up and down the eastcoast and develop the band.
Moving forward to 2007 Wes Seewald (Keys/vox) was added to the line-up, post the recording of their EP/DVD "Everyone". This EP/DVD helped establish the band some, regional radio airplay, Video Hits Top 20, and supports with, Wolfmother, Rouge Traders, Kate Miller-Heideke amongst others.
Now in 2009 a lineup change has occurred seeing Ads Gardiner (Drums) take up the sticks from sorely missed Chris, and a new fresh direction with interesting and eclectic pop/rock tracks, more musically aligned with the bands message and image of “Positive Consciousness Rock” has been established.
April 2009 will see the band record their debut LP consisting of 12 to 14 tracks, an album that demos from which have created such a buzz that Rolling Stone Magazine will be previewing the album even before it is recorded! “A Consciousness Journey Record, a real album like they use to make them, something special.”
But that’s all fact and figures, achievements and highlights, the real deal with Very Unique Existence is their unique eclectic music, and live vibe. Self defined as “Positive Consciousness Rock” the band donate part proceeds from each gig to a charity within the town they play, and focuses their music and lyrics along with their show on delivering “positive energy” to help “elevate consciousness”.
What would you expect from a ....Byron.. ..Bay.... band you might say! But there is something going on here that can’t be pinned down to hippy ideals wrapped in beautifully crafted eclectic Pop/Rock.
Very Unique Existence are connecting with people, in a simplistic, single message, single song way that doesn’t cliché the age old concept of “music for change”. Each song is a little pill of positivity that gets inside you with a humble and almost naive concept and bubbles out through sound and melody to make you “feel positive” and the fans base of loyal believers in the revolution of positivity are a testament to it’s credibility.
God knows we could all use some positive energy right now!
"Runaway Fate Train" Rich - 20/3/2009This band is like a run away fate train, every moment leading to the next in ways some people might call coincidence but undeniably there is something special going on and it’s showing no signs of slowing down.
Out of the Ashes of a destroyed engagement and after 1.5 years adventuring round the World learning about life, the universe and putting his extremely interesting childhood into perspective, ..Rich.. Latimer Singer/Songwriter returns home to a rural palace, solace and his black cat Chinta and decides to start a band, to make sense of and to share all the lessons his journey has given him so far.
Placing an Ad in the paper and leaving the rest to fate, ..Rich.. meets drummer Chris who had recently moved to the north coast from ....Sydney.... after leaving his prior band of 10 years (Ankh) and wanting more from the musical side of life.
Although coming from different musical backgrounds, Chris having a heavy & fast style and ..Rich.. playing a more blues rock genre, the two gelled immediately writing four songs on their first jam together. Realizing the potential of their combined styles, they began to practice in earnest using every spare minute to create a new and exciting style of rock music that flowed with soulful dynamics and fluidity giving them a very unique sound all their own. Each track inspired by a thoughtful and worthy lesson to be shared.
From here and after 4-6 months as a two-piece, and after (as a 2 piece) winning the Jim Beam Band Competition Rich and Chris recruit Mick Harris (Australian Version of Les Claypool -Seriously!) again by advertising into the line-up and asking the Gods to make it so.
Mick a genius a gentleman (rare combination), who had been studying a 3-year degree in the art form of Bass, Bass and nothing but the Bass joins this Fate Train. Several weeks into the project it is discovered that Mick and Chris are actually blood related...Very Unique Existence Fate again. They had no idea; it became evident through Mick's mother browsing the bands website... The trio (now with the BLOOD CONNECTION) in late 2004 begin the task of making heir mark on the music world, recording a 7 Track Demo at Top Cat Studios with legend ..Brad Wann...
This Demo called Very Unique Existence 2004 Demo (released on itunes.com.au and via www.thevue.com.au) served its purpose, it scored them plenty of gigs and it gave fans something to hold on to. ..Brad Wann.. from www.topcastudios.com has been a mentor and friend to the band the whole way and this first record (result of winning a band comp) kick started Very Unique Existence into EXISTENCE.
After nearly 2 years of, hard gigging, touring, and promoting the band Very Unique Existence. Finally cut their first record "Everyone" it sported lovely unique arrangements, nice powerful songs and a flavor not yet discovered...
In order to re-produce the record live the band needed a Keys player... Mick had a mate from UNI who was the prodigy of the session player Steve Russell who played keys on the record.
Mick rang Wes (Wez) Seewald to ask him to come over and listen to his band and see if he wanted to join.
On the way over to Mick’s Wez was singing away to one of his favorite new tunes on the Radio "Take it Easy" by Very Unique Existence. Wez enters Mick’s house says "Play me your CD" the song comes on and he basically bursts his bubble exclaiming "I have been listening to that for weeks and just now on the way over here". Needless to say Wez is the new addition (delivered by divine intervention) completing this line-up.
At the end of 2008, our brother Chris had to make a tough decision to leave the band to spend more time with his young kids, so again the University in Lismore provided us with the answer, this time in young gun Adam (Ads) Gardiner. Ads is a fantastic talent and in the short amount of time he's been with us has proven himself a committed member of his new family.
And so here we are..2009 Rich, Mick, Wez and Ads of Very Unique Existence about to make a 14 Track Album :)
"The Brook" Wes - 7/11/2008There's just something about touring to regional areas. Honestly, its the best part of the job. Load up the tour bus, grab a few cans of red bull and head off into the night, pull up for a sleep where ever we feel like it.
Wake up at dawn, head a bit further up the road for some breakkie, all the crew having a great time, lots of laughs and Corey's Ipod on full blast. Get into town, meet the crew at the Radio station, do some interviews and giveaways, see afew sights and then get stuck into the job of setting up as the sun goes down.
Then it really gets fun as the crowd comes in and we give it all we have.
But this trip was somehow special, maybe it was the coal dust on the drive in, but our show at Muswellbrook presented by Power FM was one I'll always look back on and smile.
Firstly we pulled over at a music shop in Taree where Chris and I found a bubble machine and bought it on impulse.. was to prove a mistake. Then came our 10 minute radio interview with Courtney and Dayle 'Richo' Richardson at Power FM lasted 45 minutes. We get back to the venue to find out that our Rich had been busy testing the smoke machine and the fire brigade were on their way...literally. A phone call explanation put that fire out for us ;) Meanwhile Mick had gotten lost trying to find the charity we were to sponsor to collect tickets, then wasn't allowed them as he had no way of proving he was in the band!! Lucky a phone was on hand.
The show was a lot of fun with a great crowd, however the bubble machine had made the dance floor, stage and all our instruments very slippery with detergent!! The after party with half of Muswellbrook in attendance lasted until 5am, with endless singstar, and much to his disappointment our Frontman Rich did not remain undefeated!!! Come dawn it was sleep or forget playing in Sydney the next day!!
Needless to say, I'm looking forward to heading back to 'the Brook' :)
"So what does music mean to you?" Mick - 29/7/2008
Recently we were asked to pen down for a magazine article what music meant to each of us, so i thought I'd post it on here for you all to have a look at. Peace :)
Rich.. Latimer (Guitar/Vox) "Music has been part of my life as long as I can remember; it’s a release like no other. My first influences were bands like Pearl Jam, ....Sound.. ..Garden...., Chili Peppers at age 16. It was then I knew I was destined to make records to inspire and elevate people......Very Unique Existence for me is the simplification and consolidation of everything that music has taught me, it is a fate driven vehicle with endless possibilities all of which positive and purposeful....I'm blessed to have these friends and share these songs. It feels like Music with Meaning."-..Rich..
Wez Seewald (Keys) "Music allows me to express the full range of human emotions and to connect to the souls of other people....Very Unique Existence is an unbelievable opportunity to share great purposeful music and good times with the band and audience..... I think all the members of Very Unique Existence have really understood this in the way they have written and performed their music since I have recently come to be a part of this run away fate train."-Wez
Mick Harris (Bass/Vox) "Music is my reason for living. I believe I was born onto this planet to play music, because it's what I do best, I love it more than anything....Very Unique Existence is like a second family. I have found my brothers in music and I believe in these songs"-Mick
Chris Boniface.. (Drums) "Music is a personal moment caught forever between friends. It is an escape of reality brought to life though the collective consciousness and passed onto individuals to help bring about change... Very Unique Existence to me is all and more that I have wanted to do in a band. I have already realized a life long dream with four great mates and I'm sure that much more is yet to come."-
"Rouge Traders support slot live review" Chris - 24/05/2008Hey Hey happy people!! Chris here, thought I'd post this little newspaper clip up about our recent little gig with the very awesome Natalie Bassingthwaite and her Rogue Traders. Was awesome... :)
Saturday 24th May Very Unique Existence opened for the brilliant and down to earth Rogue Traders, whilst on their better in the dark tour, 'Natalie James and The Rogue Traders crew, their tour manger and publicity company were amazing and just such great people! We were so grateful to them all and blown away to have the chance to meet and play with them' said ..Rich.. Latimer from Very Unique Existence.
Walking onto the dark stage amidst murmurs and a slow developing excitement Very Unique Existence (www.thevue.com.au) front man ..Rich.. Latimer stepped up to the microphone with his guitar hanging behind his back and a single white spotlight focused on him.
Pausing for a moment to take in the 1100 strong crowd who were eagerly awaiting The Rogue Traders, he burst into an acapella piece that silenced the room and captured the attention of those from wall to wall.
Slowly punters moved forward to the stage.
The local boys from Very Unique Existence launched into a solid live set full of energy and at the conclusion of each song, it was clear the crowd were blown away by the quality of music and level of performance by the opening act.
As soon as radio hits 'Take it Easy', 'Pop Song' and 'Looking Down' were played it was obvious for most they were only just own making the connection between these songs they loved and their own local guys.
Finishing the set with a song demanding crowd participation in the center the home town crowd didn't disappoint and expressed their satisfaction with a thunderous applause and screams for encores…
Meet back stage by an impressed James and Natalie from The Rogue Traders, who had heard of the band via industry magazine The Music Network, they spent time talking about the tour and getting some happy snaps.
The boys were later mobbed in the foyer selling out of CD/DVD 'Everyone' along with merch and being asked to sign autographs and have photos taken with new found local fans, it was a huge success for Very Unique Existence who now look forward to playing to a knowing crowd Thursday June 19th at Southern Cross UNI Bar …
"Positive Consciousness Rock" Rich - 20/6/07
Was thinking recently after a show, just how do i pen exactly what it is that we do on stage into a slogan or just a few words?? And really after some thought it became quite obvious. We play rock music, with a positive message to impact on people in a good way. "Positive Consciousness Rock" has been born :) and it is... The design, development and delivery of music, lyrics, songs that have an intentional positive impact on the listener.
It's an energy thing, and intention thing, and it's what motivates this band.
This "Positive Consciousness Rock" is defined by the fact that the band donate 10% to 20% of every door show they do to a local active charity in the town they are playing, along with supporting aid abroad.
Gives us a real buzz knowing the people supporting us by coming to shows or buying music, are helping people in need in their own community. We're stoked to be able to do this, what a job ;)

Reviews of LiVE performances and the Debut CD/DVD 'Everyone' will be posted as they are printed, please keep checking back on this Blog.
'Very Unique Existence are Australia's answer to Snow Patrol' - MD 104.7fm
Whether that is the case or not the review of 3.5 stars in the Sunday Telegraph 24th of February just .5 of a star behind the predicted album of the year and the second highest review against Sony/BMG and Universal artists, has sparked a download frenzy for Very Unique Existence along with record website hits.
With all the reviews for the CD/DVD Debut 'Everyone' breaking the 3.5 Star barrier it's a testament that the currently snow balling hype around Very Unique Existence and their 'Positive Consciousness Rock' is justified.
--- Sunday Telegraph: Feb 24th 2008: 3.5 Stars ---
'Byron Bays Very Unique Existence deliver a strong debut CD/DVD. Likened to a mix of Powderfinger, Wolfmother, and Jet, Very Unique Existence are a band to look out for.
One particular track Take it Easy, could easily attract commercial radio airplay, especially the ....UK.... remix.'....
--- Eleven Magazine: February 24th: 3.5 Stars ---....
'Very Unique Existence has harnessed the spirit of classic rock and is holding on for dear life. In a time where indie rockers, electronic disco heads are being hailed as our royalty, the ....Byron.. ..Bay.... based band has done well to buck the trend.....
Everyone is a solid debut release. With their firmness of sound, crisp guitar work and catchy melody, Very Unique Existence are going places.'....
..--- Drum Media: Featured Single ..Rev..iews ---
'Unique this ....Byron.. ..Bay.... four piece are, particularly in presenting what they define as positive consciousness rock, usually a label associated with reggae, but sonically they are very much built on the classic Australian rock sound.
They deliver it with a crispness and strong, confident musicianship, in an almost matt finish kind of way that shows there's a depth of experience behind the unit's relatively short existence.....
Their obvious sense of tension and drama comes to the fore best on Roll On and the hard-riffing Shadow Behind, tracks that show a potentially intriguing and more complex direction.'
--- Beat ..Rev..iew: Jan 12th 2008 --
'Very Unique Existence have created something that first grabs a hold of you tight & close then all of a sudden lifts you to dizzy heights. Some times you are blasted back by the groves & then catapulted high into the air, at others your left to float and glide and then out of the blue dropped plummeting back to ground to be caught a second before impact.
70's influences could be heard so can 60's, 80's and 90's but they haven't followed suit with revivalists and just reinvented this, they have a sound and it's Very Unique. Their debut CD/DVD release titled 'Everyone' shows without a doubt this band is going to take off'-Beat

--- LIVE REVIEW: Dubbo parkes Tour by The Shadow Dancer ---
Righto - here's a slightly modified transcript of what I said in the podcast...
http://theshadowdancer.mypodcast.com/
*** Recently, I returned from my digs in Bathurst to the home base in Dubbo, because heaven knows I miss it, no matter how much I diss the poor place. And it was a bloody good thing I did, because on Saturday September 27, I managed to catch Very Unique Existence at the Garden Hotel. I missed these gents the last time they were here because I was back in Bathurst, and hadn’t heard any of their stuff, so I was more than a little curious to see what they were offering.
On my arrival at the venue, I did a quick lap to assess the vibe of the place. With the night being an all ages event, there was a great family atmosphere. (And you know, there are some serious kudos in that for both the Garden Hotel and the bands playing – if we get the kids hooked early, then Dubbo could build itself a really great live scene.) That said, some better signage would have been appreciated, with this poor little reviewer nearly getting lost on her way out the back! The open air atmosphere was nice, not too smoky, and not too cold. Overall, a nice spot for an evening out! (And who could go past $2 pink lemonades – legends!)
While waiting for the set to start, I grabbed a copy of the VUE CD/DVD, “Everyone”. (Oh yeah, watch me rhyme like the street kid I am.) At $15 for two discs, it wasn’t a bad deal – I’ve certainly seen worse. You can expect a review of that in the coming months as well!
But enough talking about the merchandise, because we all know it's the gig that really matters. The set opened with a really beautiful keyboard solo piece, with a ridiculous amount of smoke machine effects, making the lighting even more gorgeous. The whole atmosphere being created was stunning – to be perfectly honest I was nearly crying. It was delicate and emotive, and by the time the song had swung into full band mode, I was winded with awe.
And my goodness, for the rest of the set, I danced like nobody was watching! They had a great vibe going, and some really beautiful melodies, which left me wondering, “How did I not know of these guys before?” As some of you may know, if I don’t get many notes, it means the set was either really fantastic or really shocking… Don’t worry, it was the former! I was having such a great time that I refused to leave at any point during the set. I needed to pee – nope! Keep dancing! Hmm, I’d really like a drink – forget it! Can’t miss a minute of this! I didn’t leave the front of the floor from the beginning of the opening track until the very end of the encore. Basically, I can sum it up with WOW and gees, I wish you’d been there!
So I said a quick hooroo to those I knew, and waddled off to my ride, care of the darling Dark Daddy, wondering how I was going to sum up the evening. And you know what, I’m going to make a big call. While nothing will ever beat The Whitlams experience in Orange I had a few years ago, I’m going to pull a bit of a rabbit out the hat and say they were as good as, if not better than the recent Whitlams gig at the Dubbo RSL. They had such a great feel, and a fantastic live sound. I hope they continue to experiment and I REALLY hope to hear them playing in Bathurst in the near future to prove to my uni buddies that I'm not lying when I say how fantabulous they really are. It was certainly a marvellous evening's work from Very Unique Existence, earning them a place up there in my favourite live bands, alongside The Whitlams and Thirsty Merc. There will be much excitement spent waiting for my next dose of VUE goodness.
***
Just to provide a little bit of context - The Whitlams are my favourite band EVER
