I have a new blog.  I'm committed to writing something thoughtful once a week or so...

Alex Rodriquez was the highest paid player in baseball.  The Yankees were prepared to give him an unprecedented contract extension where he would have been paid around $230 million dollars over the next 8 years.  But he opted out of his contract and is now a free agent.

Too bad for A-Rod.  He had a chance to do something special.  He is an amazing player, that is indisputable.  One of the best ever.  But he had a chance to be a player that was loved by the fans of his team.  He could have been a Yankee legend.  All you non-Yankee fans are gagging over that, which I understand.  The Yankees are a pretty good team to be a beloved player on.  Most storied franchise in sports.  But really, it would be great to be loved on a different team too.  Like Boston or something.  To me that's more important than a 5% raise. Instead, he will now play for the fourth team in his still relatively young career.  If the big bank account does it for you man, whatever.

Speaking of Boston.  The timing of A-Rod's announcement was just great.  Real class act.  The announcement was made during the end of the last game of the World Series.  Seriously, what an ass.  The thing is, he'd gone through the hard part in NY; the fans had come around- as much as NY fans do.  If the Yanks end up still negotiating with him (they said they wouldn't if he opted out) and sign him I think I'll have to start being a Red Sox fan.  They're at least playing like the Yankees.

Yes, someone hacked into my space and posted some bulletins/comments.  Sorry about that.  I have changed my password, hopefully that alleviates the problem.

And that pretty much epitomizes my day.  My back is, well, literally a pain.  (I pinched a nerve in it a month ago and it had been doing well, but it regressed significantly this past weekend).  My laptop keeps crapping out on me so I can't get any work done.  But it is a sunny day in Vancouver in October and I have a wonderful baby son, so I can't really complain.

The Times They Are A-Changin'

It had to be done sooner or later.  They were getting annoying and I thought it would be fun to have the first baby pics before I cut them.  Maybe now when Asher is 16 and I am old, he will at least think his old man used to be cool.  Now that he is here though, they really got in the way when I was trying to hold him.  That first shower and some vigorous head-scratchin' felt amazing.  It's been a day and I am really liking the new doo.  I had a great hair stylist too.

It is 10:30 on a Friday night.  I am in a coffee shop doing schoolwork.  Research to be exact; and who are we kidding, if anyone is going to be exact, it will probably be me.  I just put a citation to an article in the Montenegrin Journal of Economics in my "folder" to track down later.  And you wonder why I haven't been blogging...

I know, this isn't a real blog, but this is hilarious and you need to watch it.  It is an impressionist on Letterman...and not the painter kind either..

Caliendo on Letterman

Frank Caliendo on Letterman 2

Some repeats, but also some Seinfeld that is great!
