Here's a little fun from the weekend, and the last thing I watched on SNL before they got entirely too partisan on Weekend Update.

Category: News and Politics
This was taken from yesterday's post on my blog, Busy Nothings.
Political stupidity. I can't stand it. It absolutley abhors me that people will vote for Hilary Clinton just because she's a woman or Barack Obama because he is black. If you want to vote for them, then do it because they're the best candidate to run our country. I don't think either is the best candidate for president, but that's because they're liberals and want to strip away all of our freedoms from us in order to control every aspect of our lives in the name of "protecting" us, not because of race or gender. The same goes for people who want to vote for Mike Huckabee because he is a minister and is pro-life and anti-gay marriage. Guess what? Those are the only two conservative tenants that man holds to. He is soft on illegal immigration. Trust me, I live in Arkansas. He wanted to give scholarships to illegals to go to college. He closed many small schools, taking away the identity of many communities, forcing children to ride buses for indecent amounts of time. He allowed a rapist to be pardoned in order to kill people in Missouri. He raised taxes, and he made a child's weight be a part of his permanent school record. He claims to be a moderate or middle of the road candidate, but you can't be middle of the road. Like my pastor said Sunday, "If you keep walking down the middle of the road, you'll eventually be run over." It's true too. Just because you're an evangelical Christian doesn't mean that you should vote for Huckabee. Look at ALL the issues, and see if he's the candidate for you. You shouldn't vote for a group, but the man and/or woman who is running. Right now, I'm supporting either Romney or Thompson. I'll make up my mind before Super Tuesday's primary. However, I am both socially and fiscally conservative, and my 1 preset on my car radio is 1030 AM, KFAY Talk Radio. In other words, I'm an evil conservative Repulican. I believe in God, Jesus, sanctity of life, less government intrusion, low taxes for everyone, and protecting our country at all angles.

This is a post made at my actual blog, Busy Nothings. ***********************************************************************
"The lady doth protest too much, methinks." Hamlet Act 3, scene 2, 230 It seems to me that in this day and age, you supposedly can't believe in anything without literally wearing those beliefs on your sleeve, your chest or back, your wrist, your skin (tattoos), or even plastered all over your automobile while screaming loudly to deafened ears just exactly what it is that you believe. Whether you believe in animal rights, going green, Buddha, Allah, God, or the Underpants Gnomes , it seems you don't really believe it unless you display it to gross proportions. The funny thing is though, have you ever noticed that more often than not, those who bark the loudest and make the showiest displays are often the biggest hypocrites?
Growing up in a small, extremely Christian home and town, like most others I, along with most of my friends, proudly donned the swag of Christian pop culture, especially the WWJD movement. Now I have absolutely nothing against the practice of "walking daily with Jesus" and trying to imitate Him. That is what we as Christians are supposed to do. John 13:15 states, "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you." Never in the Bible does it tell us to brag about our belief, our actions, and our "following" of Jesus. They remind me of Ananias and Sapphira, whose story is found in Acts 5:1-11.
1Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. 2With his wife's full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles' feet. 3Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4Didn't it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God." 5When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. And great fear seized all who heard what had happened. 6Then the young men came forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him. 7About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8Peter asked her, "Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?" "Yes," she said, "that is the price." 9Peter said to her, "How could you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out also." 10At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband. 11Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.
Now what did Ananias and Sapphira do that was so wrong before God? They made a big show of giving to God under the pretense that they were giving all they had, when in fact they did not give all that they had. God and the disciples would have been happy with any amount that Ananias and Sapphira gave. However, they wanted to give the appearance of having given their everything in order to gain selfish, earthly fame and notoriety. They wanted all the praise they would receive for being so righteous and hole without actually being so.
I no longer wear the shirts. The only religious jewelry that I wear is a cross that was a present from my brother-in-law. I try not to make a big deal about boasting how often I attend church, where I attend church, or how many Bible verses I know. I can say all these things, wear the right clothes, and listen to the right music, but if I'm not really living and experiencing a true relationship with God, then I'm just puffing up myself. I'm no better than Al Gore preaching to everyone about greenhouse emissions while flying all over the feverish globe in his private jet constantly. I am a hypocrite.
With my own eyes, I have seen too many people whose lives don't add up to what they proclaim so loudly. It has been disheartening to me, causing me to even lose friends to some extent through the years, but what does it show everyone else? Perhaps those of us who proclaim so loudly that it is but a clattering gong or clanging cymbal are really overcompensating for hidden (or not so hidden) sins or even - even a lack of faith?
We're all hypocrites to some extent, but shouldn't we all just strip ourselves of all the baggage? It's time to shed the t-shirts, the bracelets, the bumper stickers; time to listen to other music and not condemn or boycott books and movies that may not agree with your personal beliefs. Be secure in your faith enough for it to show through in you without the religious bling. Stop trying to scream louder than the next fanatic because that is all any of us seem to be when we take things too far. God gave us minds of our own. Don't you think it's time we open up to open them?

I love Christmas. I love the decorations, I love the music, I love the food, I love the clothes, I love the movies and television specials, and of course I love the presents. I love giving gifts probably more than I love getting them even. It's just such a happ-happ-happy time of the year, despite the crowds at stores, the rush to do so many things, and occasionally just the general holiday overkill. Like a child, I anticipate the Christmas season the entire year. I think that Christmas brings out the child in all of us. We still somehow wish for Jolly Old St. Nicholas to ride to our house in his sleigh. I've been reading a great deal about the English Reformation and Civil War that occurred in the seventeenth century. When the Puritans were in control, they actually outlawed Christmas. Even though Christmas is supposed to be a celebration of Christ's birth, they didn't approve of the behavior of people during the celebrations. The debauchery, the games, and such were just too much for the godly. Society today takes extremes just as preposterous. We're not allowed to say Merry Christmas because not everyone celebrates Christmas. Christmas mentions Christ, and that's not acceptable to those who don't believe in either God, Christ, and possibly any higher being. The Puritans would be shocked at how fanaticism has turned a one-eighty over the centuries. Of course there are a few Christians who still take that Puritanical outlook on this holy day. Hmmm..... holy day, holiday; one doesn't need to crack open the Oxford English Dictionary to figure out the etymology there. Sorry, I chased a rabbit there for a moment.... I can recall working at a retail store during Christmas break while in college and wishing two customers a Merry Christmas. I was chastised by them because they didn't want to be wished Merry Christmas because it is just a pagan holiday that celebrates a tree and consumerism. I suppose if we were to listen to both extremes, that we should just cancel Christmas because it apparently is a Christian holiday that isn't Christian enough. In order to not offend anyone, we should just not have Christmas. Of course then our entire economy would probably crumble because we know that retailers aren't out of the red until the Black Friday. They rely on Christmas sales to make their profits. The recording industry would suffer far more than they ever imagined they have due to downloading. An entire genre of music would have to be wiped from the face of the Earth, therefore depleting CD sales. The motion picture industry would take a hit because not only do they produce holiday fare, but a great deal of the year's box office tickets are sold during Christmas. The vacation industry would hurt because many people go skiing or take cruises during Christmas. Other industries that would suffer would include food, restaurants, greeting cards and other stationary such as wrapping paper, lighting companies, jewelers, and the list could go on and on. We need Christmas. We need it as it is. Yes, though of us who believe in Jesus Christ can choose to celebrate His virgin birth. Those who don't can enjoy the purely secular parts of the season because there are plenty to enjoy. Those who don't like the secular end can go to church and think only holy thoughts if that's what they please. We shouldn't stop decorating Christmas trees, showing nativity scenes, or hanging crosses. To prevent people from celebrating Christmas for both the religious and secular reasons is purely un-American. We're a people of freedoms, not restrictions for the fear of offending others. If our forefathers had been afraid of offending George III, they wouldn't have called him a tyrant and signed the Declaration of Independence. It is our American priviledge to celebrate Christmas, and America needs Christmas. We need the happiness, we need every bit of the wonderful things that make Christmas so wonderous. We need more than a little Christmas, we need a lot of Christmas.
