this is why drugs are bad!

July 2, 2009 - Thursday
this is one of my favorites. this really shows what it takes. 1) it shows how much you really need to care about what you're doing. in this video you have two of the greatest of all time. chuck berry and keith richards and they stop the second it's not right! 2) they're not just taking it easy. they are trying hard to make it awesome. and that's really important. it's not lame to try hard at something you believe in, it's only lame if you're trying hard when you don't believe in it. then you're just a fucking poser!

IGGY POP

here's one of my favorite people on the planet. for those of you who don't know. iggy and i wrote a song together. which was an amazing experience. i think the song we did was great. and it was really fun to be in the studio with iggy. but most importantly to me is that i think he's one of the greatest people i've met and it's great i can call him a friend now. this interview is great because he's so uniquely interesting. and this is one of my favorite interviews. nobody has bigger balls than iggy. and he's really confident too!

here's the song we wrote together.

another amazing interview with iggy pop. one thing about him that some people might or might not overlook is, he's actually a brilliant guy. and amidst all the chaos he may be more sane than all of us. i love this one because it shows a lot of sides to him. the entertainer, the idiot, the genius, the most super sweet cocky guy you know.

a lot of people have been asking about the song always and if it's going to be on the greatest hits album. it is and it isn't. for some reason, not our choice, the song will be included on the best buy version of the cd in the US. outside of the US, i honestly don't know. it's all up to the individual record companies in your country to decide how it comes out. sorry that they make shit difficult sometimes. if we had it our way it wouldn't be like that. sorry for any bullshit you have to go through to get it.

here's one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists of all time. bob dylan. the first video is the actual song that was recorded for his album, which i, along with stevo think is fucking brilliant. the second video is him performing his brilliant song to an audience that won't give it the chance even before they hear it. to understand the context here, it's around the mid 60's, bob dylan is one of the most important artists in the world and most people are writing him off all of a sudden as a hypocrite because he has now decided to start adding electric instruments to his music. the funny thing is is the song is actually amazing and it shouldn't be judged on how it's being played. the thing that should always matter is what song is being played. it doesn't always come down to the instruments in the arrangement. the sad thing is, in the end it doesn't always come down to the song in most people's mind. it comes down to perception. either way, i think this song is amazing, so i want to share it with anyone who hasn't heard it before. my favorite part is when he laughs in the middle of the lyric!

there's many reasons why john lennon is such a great artist. and obviously most people know that. but he's maybe the most significant because there's so many reasons why he is such a great artist. i think for me it's because more than most artists you really feel his true intention in the music. there's nothing hiding in his lyrics. and the sincerity in his voice, wether he's talking about pain or love, shines through so fucking strong that you can't help but be punched in the face by his honesty. this song does that.
put yourself in the right perspective. john lennon was just in the biggest and best rock band of all time. the band had just broken up and while everyone was in shock, and also in anticipation to see which member will do what and how will it sound, john lennon releases the John lennon/plastic ono band album. this is a great album, but this song in particular made me feel something else. i love the piano in it and also the intent in his voice. another funny fact is that, although he may be the most important beatle,( depending on opinion) he was the only one to NOT to have a number one single after the beatles broke up. crazy! not even imagine!

as a side not, remember, when i write these things, it's late at night and quite a few glasses of red wine in. the reason i started writing these is because everyone else i know is sick of hearing me talk about it and have gone to bed. so if you wanna join me, pour a drink and listen to the good music i post. and please forgive my bad righting, wait, writing. ya!!

thanks,
deryck
