Rocky is a sweet, loving boy who had the misfortune of being BOUGHT by a selfish family that didn..t want "hair on (their) clothes!", and resented the need to actually spend time out of their day to train - or even give love - to this puppy. (Even though the wife doesn..t work, and the husband is home by 2pm every day.) They purchased this PUREBRED (comes with American Kennel Club papers) at 4 months of age for $1,500 and now...4 months later...have declared, "we don..t want him." The one point of credit I will give these folks is - that they have given me an opportunity (2 weeks) to find him a loving home before they dump him - and that they admitted they have NO desire or intention to give him attention. That honesty is better than allowing him to live a life void of company and love. They're too lazy to even FEED him! Right now I am the only one keeping Rocky alive and trying to give as much visit time as I can. This GORGEOUS pedigree Shepard is a loving boy that did NOT receive the attention he deserves and craved from his human companions. He is a VERY SMART boy. German Shepards are one of the most intelligent breeds. He just needs a loving home with a real family and some responsbile canine parents.
    Rocky is:
    potty-trained
    playful - likes balls and pull toys/rope
    eager to please
    a tad bit underweight
    knows to "sit" and "stay"
    crate trained - though why would you need to use one?
    in need of a lot of love!!
    in need of continued training for perfect manners (He's a puppy and like any toddler can be a brat at times to get what he wants. We all need to be taught as baby's and toddlers. Taught to walk, talk, boundaries, dangers, rights and wrongs - etc. Dogs are no different!)
ANY ISSUES? Just one. They didn't bother to properly socialize Rocky during those 4 months, which leaves Rocky socially awkward. This means that it takes a few minutes for Rocky to warm up to an unfamiliar dog. You can see in the video below that Rocky is playing with 2 small dogs. To date, Rocky has been exposed to (and enjoyed the company) of a female Labrador that outweighs him, 2 Pugs (my boys), one Puggle and a Chihuahua (one of my rescues)...which demonstrates that he wants and loves other dogs - especially being a puppy he loves to play - but he is nervous upon greeting. This nervousness can be intensified with large dogs but does NOT have to be a problem as he can EASILY be socialized. I'm trying to find time to get him to a dog park and help the poor boy out but I wanted to be upfront since his new family will need to nurture this growth. This likely occurred because the dog walker friends "encouraged" them to hire (God forbid the family actually walk him themselves) would yank on Rocky's choke collar when another dog approached. This made Rocky feel that something was wrong and put him on the defensive. He was never allowed to greet other dogs normally and without stress (or being choked) so he needs to "re-learn" normal greetings - and come to know that there is nothing to fear from a new friend.

Normally I would only post rescued dogs needing homes, or dogs on death row needing homes but this situation is URGENT and I can only ask that everyone please forward the plea to everyone you know. This precious life can easily be saved if we all give up one Venti-Latte and helped out a family desperately in need.

A cruel neighbor POISONED Timber (SLA rescue)
and another of the family's dogs.


In June of 2008 I rescued Timber from South Central LA Shelter where he was held as an "evidence" dog and never seen by the public for adoption. They scheduled his kill date, and I scooped him up to give him a chance at life. A loving family ended up adopting Timber, and he began to enjoy the life he deserves. On Wednesday, September 17, 2008, the family frantically called me, stating that they were rushing Timber to the hospital and applying for a credit card with the hospital in hopes to save Timber's life.
This family has no money to pay the extent of this bill (not to mention the interest on that credit card)... but they refused to kill him, instead admitting him with the hope and faith that a community of caring people would help them save their beloved family member.
At 10pm Wednesday evening, I drove to the family's home – the poor children zombies with tear stained eyes, and more rolling down – I personally had to carry their sweet, beloved DECEASED "Cookie" (beagle mix) in my car and as hard as it was for me, I drove this beautiful corpse back to the hospital so that the doctors could open her stomach and find the poison that lie inside (knowing Timber's ingested the same toxins). TO CLARIFY: the victim "Cookie" is/was a beagle mix and was part of this family BEFORE they adopted Timber from me. The murdered dog was NOT my other rescue Cookie - the Dalmatian, which some of you were concerned about. The Dalmatian is safe and happy in her new home.



If you can, PLEASE HELP THIS FAMILY. All three of their dogs were rescues, they are devastated by this horrific crime. The children are traumatized.
These dogs were intentionally poisoned. The contents of the deceased dog confirmed it. The amount of poison was overwhelming. It was fed to them with food through the fenced yard.
We've gotten the police involved and they are now taking precautions with the metal fencing that separates them from their neighbors. Please donate if you can.

Whatever you can. Please help them allow Timber the care he needs so that he can come home...alive!! If we all give up ONE cafe-latte today, and donate the $4-$5 instead, we can do this!!!

As you all might know, I am not a non-profit organization. I pay for all the dogs I rescue out of my savings. Recently, a street rescue cost $11,000 alone.
Luckily I didn't bear that entire burden!! Another SLA rescue cost me $2,100 last month – that I paid for. A second street rescue cost me $1,600...and so on, and so forth.
I am not rich! These unexpected expenses have put me under and even with the financial stress I'm enduring with my new debt, I'm kicking in because if we don't all try to help out our fellow humans in need, the canine community has no chance!! I'm also watching his hospital care and will help him recover once out. As I always say, I'm walking the talk!!

A note from Cookie....

It's unofficially "official"...I have a new home!!!! My transfer will prove to be very difficult for Timi because we've been so close these past couple months, but Timi says I am going to a home that is beyond even her dreams!! AMAZINGLY loving and caring parents who will treat me like their own child...which I am! (Once the adoption is final anyway!!) I have a fully enclosed, big back yard and - did I mention...lots and lots of love! I'll be making the move very soon. I appreciate everyone who was praying for me. My new daddy traced me to Timi's site via LISA RINNA's MySpace blog!!! This is truly a kismet match and blessing. Now I should go comfort Timi. She's extremely happy for me, but she can't hide her tears. I know having to say good-bye is never easy for her.

I want to THANK LISA RINNA for posting my plight on her MySpace blog. The exposure has been invaluable!!! And Timi and I truly appreciate her kindness!! You too Ninnie!

NOTE from TIMI: I only feature dogs that I have personally interacted with and know on a one-to-one level. I spend as much free time as I can at shelters freeing a lonely soul from his/her cage for a brief moment of love and attention while I get to know these various lives in need of a good home - before they are killed by the state. I post those that I find will make great companions and family members. The loss of life is staggering in this country, but we can begin change - one life at a time. When possible, I pull a precious life on their kill date, and place them in foster. Sadly there are never enough fosters to save all the deserving lives.
