Ohio doom trio Beneath Oblivion is having a 10" record released in the early fall by the Mylene Sheath ( http://www. mylenesheath. com/), a label that exclusively releases vinyl records. The record will feature two new songs titled "One Year of Deprivation," and "No Man or Deity." There will only be 500 copies pressed in 3 different colors, and it will play at 45rpm for maximum fidelity. The Mylene Sheath will be taking preorders for Beneath Oblivion's 10" record within the next couple of weeks and all people who do a preorder will be entered into a raffle to win a free test press of the album along with their order. The two songs on the release were recorded at Litterbox Studios by Andy Perkins (24hourflu, Hilltop Distillery, Mala In Se) and then sent to Watchmen Studios in Buffalo, NY to be mixed and mastered by Doug White (Earth Crisis, Snapcase, Psyopus, Every Time I Die, Tearwave). The artwork for the album which was done by artist Nate Shumaker came out nicely and can be seen at http://www. northernlightsindustries. com/folio9. html. The songs will later be released digitally via iTunes, Rhapsody, eMusic, etc as well for those of you wish to listen to the songs in any format other than on a turntable. For more info on this release go to www. mylenesheath. com or email at info@the mylenesheath. com. In other news the band's 2006 full length CD "Existence Without Purpose" is completely sold out. EWP was a self released CD pressed and packaged by the band themselves, they are very proud of the release and it has gotten great reviews in the underground but the band has no intentions of having the album repressed at this time. Beneath Oblivion would like to move forward and focus on future releases rather than repressing something they have already done. Any labels interested in re-releasing "Existence Without Purpose" or people who wish to have a CDR copy of the record may contact the band at beneathoblivion@yahoo.com. To hear a couple of the songs from 'EWP' as well as the songs from the 2007 split 10" with Sin of Angels released by 43rd Parallel Records go to Beneath Oblivion's myspace page at www. myspace. com/beneathoblivion. Beneath Oblivion is currently working on new material for their next full-length album which they have not set any kind of definite timeline on yet. The release will be as heavy, disgusting, and melancholic as any of their other releases with their own blend of crusty doom metal, and more info on their full length will be released when the time gets closer. The tunes being released by the Mylene Sheath are somewhat of a preview for the full-length. Beneath Oblivion at this time has not made any plans to tour again but will do so as soon as the newer material is closer to being finished. They are doing some shows on occasion around their hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, one of which will be this Saturday July 26th at the Gypsy Hut with their label-mates If These Trees Could Talk and Gifts from Enola. If you happen to be in the area, come out and support the bands, the show is free!

Last week Beneath Oblivion recorded two songs that clock in around 9 minutes each with Andy Perkins (Hilltop Distillery, Mala In Se, 24hourflu) turning the knobs and setting up the mics. The first one is called "One Year of Deprivation," and the second is called "No Man or Deity." Yesterday I laid my vocals and I must say that I think Andy really captured our sound better than anyone has yet. For the most part its all done and ready to be sent to Doug White at Watchmen Studios in Buffalo, NY for mixing and mastering. I have all the confidence in the world that the best mix will come from Doug White who is by far one of the most knowledgeable/talented people I've ever gotten to work with. Right now the roughly mixed version of it sounds heavy as fuck, hella thick, and above all he got the right tones and sounds that make Beneath Oblivion what it is without having to compromise the bass sound, any distortion, or any low-end overall while still getting the nice/ugly tones.
We were unsure about who we were going to work with when we record the full-length record, so we decided to record these two songs with Andy then send them to Doug for the final mix to see what we get back. So far it has gone way above my expectations, and so I'm positive that we will be recording the full-length of brand new songs with Andy (probably in a few months or less) and have Doug do the mixing and mastering on that as well. Time will tell. For as long as I've played music I've always HATED recording and being in that situation but this time around was very comfortable, I'm ready to do it again.
Once we get the songs back from Doug White, if everything turns out right they will be put out on a 7" by a vinyl-only label based out of Covington, KY called the Mylene Sheath! I'm very stoked about this release and I gotta say I'm very happy about everyone involved in this. Andy has been fucking awesome, Doug seems stoked and ready to be mixing another release for us, and Lindsey and Joel from the Mylene Sheath are awesome people who I'm very glad to be a part of this endeavor. You can check out their other releases on their myspace page in Beneath Oblivion's top friends.
There is label interest for the full-length, but I'm not gonna say anything yet. I'll talk more about that when its well underway and ready to go.
I don't think I've been this inspired in years and I have restored/ rejuvenated my love of music, writing, and playing. I hit a slump for a long long time, and got writers block, but lately I've been writing lyrics and riffs daily. When I'm the most stressed I'm the most inspired I guess. Severe depression tends to be counter-productive for me and unfortunately it happens, but frustration and stress can push me to work. Godamn it felt good to get in there and scream my head off yesterday! I feel as though a thousand tons have been lifted.
My Peavey 5150 amp is sounding great. I replaced all of the tunes in it with Groovetubes, and I'm liking what I hear. Unfortunately it looks as though there is no hope for the Ebony Les Paul Standard (the headstock broke off when we were playing in Brooklyn, NY a couple years ago). It had been glued together before by its previous owner, and then came undone, so I had it repaired, but when it fell off its stand in NYC it broke again and it doesn't look as though she can stand the pressure even if we glue her back together. Still I have not given up. I can get another neck, but to have the work done and get the part would end up cost nearly as much as a used one. Still I have not given up hope because I have gotten some of the best tones ever out of that thing, but towards the end it never wanted to stay in tune because of the headstock problems. I'll save it and hopefully come across a neck or another broken Les Paul with the neck in tact and have to find someone who works on these things for cheap. This task is far too complicated. If there are any suggestions let me know. Mikes Music said its too much work and will cost too much. If worst comes to worst I will sell it for parts if the price is right. Lately I've been real interested in Jay Turser guitars. They don't cost much and they seem to play and sound as nice as a Gibson. This way I can sand the necks down and mess with different things that I'm afraid to do on my Gibsons. I'm also still looking at Sound City, Hiwatt, and Laney amps with lots of low end to add to my rig, but right now I won't be adding anything or buying any new guitars. Times are tight right now, but maybe in the summer I'll have some new toys.
Mostly lately I've been working a lot, sometimes working doubles, reading, playing, writing, and school stuff. I will most likely graduate in the fall or winter of this year... time to get my resume together. It all depends on if I want to take more classes through the summer or take off the summer and get to go on road trips/work my ass off/and possibly tour. I'm ready to play shows again!
I'm done with this Winter shit! Give me some baseball, some fishing, some BBQ, corn on the cob, some sun-brewed iced tea, girls in less clothing, cold beer, and homemade wine! I can't wait to just walk into the Stop and Go with no shoes and no shirt on to get a 12 pack of Coors, a bottle of Boone's Farm and a dozen nightcrawlers.
Anyhow I have let myself rant long enough.
Peace and Doom, Scott

People on ebay who have reserves are fucking morons/assholes. If you don't want your item to be sold for less than a certain price, then fucking start the bidding at whatever that price is you fucking moron.
Like this douchebag... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEBTOX:IT&item=200197822942&_trksid=p3984.cTODAY.m238.lVI
Its a great fucking amp that is supposed to have great low-end and is what they made before they were called Hiwatt. They were made famous by Pete Townsend because he got massive volume out of these babys... anyhow this fucking moron thinks he's going to get rich off of this amp. So I don't know what the reserve is but its more than $780 and nobody won it. I've seen him try to sell this thing twice and he thinks because he restored it a little that means it should be priced higher than it ever should have been sold for. Most reviews on this amp say they got the amp around $500, some payed as much as $700, but nobody wants to start an auction at $700 and they can see that there is a reserve so we know its at least $800. Too damn much, but what I'm really mad about is the reserve.
Meanwhile my Peavey 5150 is still in the shop at Mikes Music. I'm waiting to hear back on what is wrong because the standby is not coming on. It could be a real major thing like a fucked poweramp, or it could be just some wiring in the preamp somewhere that doesn't let the standby come on, which in turn keeps any sound from coming out. This guy comes in once a week they say he hadn't been in last week. He just comes in whenever he wants. Nice job huh? And he gets $35 just for looking at it. When I get my guitars worked on or set up there I get them back usually in a matter of hours or a day or two at the most, and I'm always impressed. Hopefully I will be impressed when I get my amp back or I'm gonna raise hell.
Regardless I hope to get my Peavey fixed up and get some kind of amp like a Sound City, a Hiwatt, or Laney that puts out massive low end. The Peavey has great clean, clear sounds and tones, and gets great mids and highs to allow you to hear all of the notes and little frequencies going on. I will get an AB Switch and hook my Peavey up to one 4x12 cabinet, and hook whatever other amp I get to one or two of my other 4x12s to get the low end I want. The result should be devastating. But its gonna take some time and money to get there.
peace and doom,
-S

Uninspired, grumpy, useless, pacing around, hungry, low on cash, splitting headache, worst day in a long time, even my cat doesn't want to come anywhere near me. Amp is broken, prolly will cost a few hundred to repair, no way to vent, shit to do, no motivation to do it, high gas prices, bills, bills, bills. Midterm exams, study, tuition, deadlines, obligations, late fees, drinking is through the roof, still not smoking for the most part, computer needs fixing, oil needs changed, apartment needs cleaning, need to pay up on auto repairs, need to get my resume together. Need to do taxes, need to do this, need to do that, bad luck, dispointing the world one person at a time. Nervous breakdown, scumbag, taking too long to graduate but kinda almost there, part-time, insomnia off and on, fatigue, winter time sucks, most of my family is dead. Currently tired of heavy stuff so I'm listening to motown and jazz, new tattoos that itch but I can't scratch, laying in bed but not sleeping, late to everything, hating everything, hoping for a fistfight, diet of ramen noodles and potatoes, missed the Dax Riggs show, prolly will miss others, paranoia of getting the flu, staying away from most people, grouchy, headache still hurts like hell. Misery loves company, cliché, clique, fuck this blog, fuck this day.

My part time schooling has prolonged my status as a student but I am very close to the end. This last weekend I got heavily drunk because this week has/will be mostly studying for exams. I will be done with everything on Thursday and then it is time to go to Buffalo and record with the Silver Cypher boys. I will only be up there for one full day to do vocals on the song "Devil's Due," and then I will be back to work and writing the new Beneath Oblivion record which will be recorded sometime in the Spring I assume. Between now and the time I get back from NY, I will be very busy with exams, typing papers, and getting this SC song down, and I work at Mac's Pub everyday between now and the time I leave. I will be at the Enslaved show on Wednesday but aside from that I will be reading, studying, and avoiding all sick people.
When I'm back we can all have a shot and a beer.

I quit about 8 or 9 weeks ago. The first two weeks consisted of eating everything within reach and fidgeting whenever I had a drink. But after that I really didn't miss them. Even up until the last two days I could be around them and not really care either way about having one. People offered and I gladly declined.
The power and stamina of my scream/vocals keep getting better and better, and in some aspects I physically feel a lot better than I have in years. I've never really been a real heavy smoker in comparison to a lot of the people I know. At times it would be a pack a week and at times it would be a pack a day or more... over the last few years it would fluctuate up and down. Sometimes in a night of drinking it would be a pack in 5 hours. However I didn't do it for my health. Just because I'm a cheap bastard and for me cheapness has always prevailed over addiction.
Sometimes every once in a rare while during heavy drinking I'd take a drag and then just put it back out or hand it to someone and say "yeah I don't really miss em," but these last couple days I have REALLY been having that craving. As the great Bill Hicks put it "they all look pretty damn good right now! Like they've been crafted by God, hand rolled by Jesus, and sealed shut with Claudia Schiffer's moist pussy lips."
Right now I think I'd blow R.J. Reynolds for one of those fucking things! Oh well, I'll get through it, just keep giving me your positive support all of my good myspace friends.

Since people have been asking here is the latest... We'll be playing this show on Sunday at Dirty Jacks with Weedeater, a great stoner rock/doom kinda band, if you haven't heard em you should. After that we will not be doing any shows for a while until the next album is out or done at least. I speculate that will be sometime in the Spring but I'm not thinking that far ahead, nor will I consider booking any gigs until we're ready. I hope to spend the rest of the fall and the whole winter jamming and piecing things together for the next full-length and then it should be recorded sometime in the spring I imagine. The last year or so its been very hard to sit down and really write because something always comes up or we agree to do this or that, and new material gets put on the back burner. I really want to push myself and put out some material that will crush anything we currently have out rather than take a month and churn out some new songs. The three of us have a lot of ideas floating around, and so I'm scared and excited at the same time because I have no idea really what to expect. Just sketches, rough ideas, and a fuck load of things on my mind that I have to get out! We just moved into our new practice space and we are very stoked about this show as well as the things that are around the corner for us. I personally can't wait to start hammering out some of this material, have it out and then do some touring again... but there is a shit load to do between now and then. To write songs I can't just throw out a few riffs and scribble down a bunch of words to scream to it. Its generally a long process, where I have to sort of shut myself off from things for a little while and take everything into consideration. Everything that I feel, everything I've ever wanted to say, what is of particular interest to me/us, etc. Anyone who has ever read the lyrics knows that I'm not just screaming my head off about irrelevant shit. My phone is already shut off (I plan to keep it off) and I will probably up my hermit status a bit. I just won't be going out as much, and will be harder to get a hold of. With that said I can't fucking wait to do this show and to see Weedeater! We hope you all will come out and have a good fucking time with us, it's gonna be a blast. I've been so busy these days that I want to kick back with all of you. We have some shirts, hoodies, and patches left over from the tour, get them before they are gone and we'll probably have new designs the next time around. Meet up with me somewhere beforehand and let's watch the Bengals/Steelers game, lets get drunk, bring a Halloween costume, get stoned, get stupid, and blow your ear drums out. The address is on the flyer so mapquest it, all the information you need should be right there, if its not then drop me a message. I'll get back to ya sooner or later. Tell a friend, and don't miss it! see ya there, Scott

Now we're all back home and getting adjusted to work, regular sleep scheduals, being broke, etc. The tour was fucking awesome, and I really had the time of my life!
Every show was fun and for the most part they got better and better as the nights went on. I only wish there were a couple more weeks added on. All of the other bands were great, treated us well, and we made a lot of new friends out there. I really have nothing to say but good things about the whole trip and i can't wait to do it again! Where will the next run be? I don't know, but I'd like to do more of the Southern or Midwestern/ Great Plains states. It'll be a long time though, since we are busy and have some writing/recording to do in the near future, but some road trips here and there will happen for sure. All I could think about for the 6 months I spent organizing this thing was how it was never gonna get here and now I can't believe its already over. I never thought I'd say this in my whole life, but being back in this river valley where the heat sticks to your skin right now fucking blows.
Thanks a bunch to Sin of Angels (I'll have to give you the Skyline Chilli next time we play), Noosebomb ("I wasn't sick I was fucking drunk"), Gut Bucket, Cough, Tarpit, Admiral Browning, Argus, World lost, and Marching Teeth. Thanks a bunch to Will and Brenda, Darline, Brandoom, Justin the roadie, and Steve from Asterion just to mention a few. A big thanks to everyone that came out to any of the shows and made it a good time for us or made us feel right at home!
A huge fucking thanks to Steve and James from Ol' Scratch (Thanks for waiting on us hand and foot! Your hospitality was endless), Pittsburgh Mike from Opressive Sound System Releases (Thanks for turning your house over to us for a couple days), Andrew and Tides Within (Always a pleasure bro!) Salome (You guys/gal are gonna be on the road with us next! We fucking loved you guys, thanks for being so cool) Pug from Moonshine Mile/Squirley Monkey (you took real good care of us, we are forever grateful). Thank all of you who went above and beyond as far as treating us good, housing us, feeding us, and making our stay a comfortable one or just being good people in general. Sorry if I forgot anyone.
... and of course a gigantic thanks to Cash Nickle for all your help and wisdom, and Thanks Ken -E- Bones, Double A - Aarron, Joe Profit and Negative Reaction!!! It was a fucking blast!
Cheers, Scott

Humeur actuelle : mélancolique
My grandfather, George Diesbach died yesterday at the age of 95. I don't really know what to say about it except that he had the coolest stories and he was one of the biggest hellraisers to come out of a small town in the south of Texas.
He was born and raised in Victoria, Texas and would spend summers in Hamilton, Ohio with his grandfather who was a German immigrant. He finally moved here for good once the Great Depression hit and had to drop out of his senior year in college in order to work in a factory.
During his days at Purdue and after in the 30's he and some friends invested in a small 4 seater airplane and started an air charter service called the Flying Dutchmen Inc.
Sometimes they would fly to Chicago during prohibition and buy barrells of booze that came indirectly from Al Capone.
Sometimes for fun he would fly low to the Ohio River and go under bridges. One of my favorite stories was the one where he said he swooped down out of the sky and went so close to a man in a conoe, that he made the guy get scared and jump into the river. Fuck that would be awesome!
Eventially my grandfather, his brother, and a friend started up a company that would make music stands, capos, and metal hardware for Gibson guitars. This small company got pretty big, after a while and turned into a factory, but the name of it escapes me.
He and my Grandmother built a huge houseboat themselves when they were retired, and lived on it for something like 15 years down in southern Kentucky. They started a charter service, taking people up and down the Cumberland River, getting their guests drunk, and providing them with dancing and entertainment.
I've got trillions more stories but those are just some of my favorites. To me he's proof that you can live wrecklessly, drink and smoke cigarrettes everyday well into your senior years and still live a real long, good quality life. (well maybe not, the men on my dad's side were lucky if they made it past their middle years, I'm the only one left.) He taught me so many things and he will be missed very much! The laughter at Christmas just won't be as loud as it used to be. Now he is with his loving wife Alice who passed away 6 years ago... wherever place that may be, they've got trouble now.
RIP - George Diesbach (1911 - 2007)

Humeur actuelle : créativité
So now the Emissions from the Monolith fest has moved to Texas. Oh well... good ridance. The only bands I really cared that much about seeing anyways were Coffins, Indian, Middian, Graves At Sea, Blue Cheer, some bands I've seen before, and then a few bands I see all the time because they tour a lot. The rest is all a bunch of crappy stoner rock that I don't really care about one way or another. Some are good, some are mediocre, some just suck. I'd rather hear Cathedral or Saint Vitus than a fifth rate Kyuss rip-off or a someone shitty like Artimus Piledriver or all Alabama Thunderpussy after the first album (I thought the addition of Kyle Thomas from one of the best bands ever, Exhorder, would really turn this shitty band around, but his vocals these days suck. Now its a blend of two things I hate. It's shitty generic stoner rock meets cock rock/glam vocals).
So anyhow Cash and I have been throwing around the idea of doing something similar here. Only most of the stoner rock would be replaced with grindcore. It'd prolly be mostly doom because I have much more knowledge in that area and know more people in that field, but I'd like to do something that sort of picks up where Youngstown and the Templars of Doom in Indy left off... of course on a much smaller scale at first, but unlike Emissions I'd like it to get better and better. I'm just thinking aloud here so anyone chime right in and leave comments.
The ideal place to set it would be somewhere like the Southgate House, plenty of space, you can smoke inside, hotels around, things to do nearby, cool place to have it, parking is nearby, buss routes, etc. It'd be something I'd like to do for one day the first year... probably being the in the Fall of 2008. It'd start around noon and go until closing time which is what 2am in Kentucky? It'd have prolly something like 6 nationals if we can get ones that we know who are going to be reasonable. The rest of the bands would be from the midwest/Ohio region... but good bands!
I'd like to have several local showcaes there with booths (headshops, tattoo shops, t-shirt places, porn shops, Phils recs, Everybody's, Shake it Recs, etc)... then I'd prolly invite other labels, zines, distros, things like that. I've already talked to a few fellas about working security, and I've got a list of bands that would be ideal but I don't wanna post that yet. Prices I will try to make absolutely as cheap as possible, hopefully around $10 but I need to know more about who' playing, how much they want, who else will be involved, cost of venue, advertising, etc. Lots of things factor into that. I am also working on a name for it becaue I see that as being one of the other most important and underestimated elements of this.
If anyone has any ideas for any part of this, constructive criticism then let me know. If you want to help out, help organize, or have a band that you want to put on or suggest then I am all ears... let me know.
Jim Morrision and his weird naked indian came to me in a dream and told me I am to put on a concert in this town.
