Like most Asian Actors (for sure) and perhaps all Actors in general, I spent a large portion of the last week of January in fear that "pilot season" was dead. I am luckier than most because I have the BEST team behind me. My agent has been so supportive over these five years, and my new management is the best thing that has happened to me.. maybe ever. My manager kept saying - hang in... it's coming. I'm sure he could sense my worry. Or maybe it was my daily e-mails that slightly resembled an insecure girlfriend with her new boyfriend.
Last week pilot season finally hit with a bang and now I am going out so much that I suffer from schizophrenia. It's exciting, and I am having a great time. There is nothing better than a good pilot season, except maybe a good pilot season where you book one of them.
There are so many roles and I am reading for a pilot on every major network. I remember my 1st pilot season there were no "Asian Girl" roles. It was down to a red head and me for the "best friend" on a WB pilot. (Yes, I got it). Now, there are quite a few roles that specifically are looking for Asian girls and the same 10 girls read for them. We are like a little heard… going from audition to audition. Maybe we should all try to car pool? Save some gas. In the end, we all just hope that the networks don't change their mind and give it to a Latina.
My Campus Ladies episode aired on Tuesday. I hear it's hilarious. I know that it is still a shocker to some that I took that role. And someone pointed out the whole – Korean name, but I say I'm from China, etc. etc. They really did that on purpose. Like reiterating that whole – you have to have an "Asian-ethnic specific name." My friend's name is Liza (as in Minelli) and she is Korean. Point made. That's about all I can say about the show until I see it… it's coming on DVD to me… no, I still don't have a TV.
Okay, if I book a pilot this year and it goes to series... I'll buy a TV.

I'm taking a break from working on a part. It's a great role that I was hoping to get to read for and I got the call today. A lead in a good Indie Film and the producer is well known. I feel great about the work I've done so far and feel very confident that I will get to the next level. I enjoy the work so much. Breaking down the script and sides, verb scoring the entire thing, and really personalizing it all. Roles like this - where the character is not far from a specific side of me allows me to converge the reality of the character's life in the script and add my own background and experience to make it real. I love what I do.

Happy New Year! and welcome to my life. I am having a great one. I hope the energy rubs off onto you as you read this... To bring you up to speed...
2006 was a FANTASTIC YEAR! My Life.. Disoriented aired on PBS .. Independent Lens - Short Stack, SAG Diversity and CAPE hosted screenings of the show on both coasts. Friends and family viewed and attending screenings and airings. I had several commercials running... and two new ones starting to air (Nokio and Microsoft). I had a GREAT time on CAMPUS LADIES, and my episode in which I have a guest star lead will be the season finale (mid January) on Oxygen Network! It's all IMPROV.. seriously.. FUNNY. I did a short Korean film in New York over the summer, and the end the year right, I just finished an ABC Family pilot called GREEK!
And 2007 will be EVEN BETTER!!!!!
