Things I choose to Live By..

I will get in touch with the field of pure potentiality by taking time each day to be silent, to just Be. I will also sit alone in silent meditation at least twice a day for approximately thirty minutes in the morning and thirty minutes in the evening.

I will take time each day to commune with nature and to silently witness the intelligence within every living thing. I will sit silently and watch a sunset, or listen to the sound of the ocean or a stream, or simply smell the scent of a flower. In the ecstasy of my own silence, and by communing with nature, I will enjoy the life throb of ages, the field of pure potentiality and unbounded creativity.

I will practice non-judgment. I will begin my day with the statement, “Today, I shall judge nothing that occurs,” and throughout the day I will remind myself not to judge.

Wherever I go, and whoever I encounter, I will bring them a gift. The gift may be a compliment, a flower, or a prayer. Today, I will give something to everyone I come into contact with, and so I will begin the process of circulating joy, wealth and affluence in my life and in the lives of others.

Today I will gratefully receive all the gifts that life has to offer me. I will receive the gifts of nature: sunlight and the sound of birds singing, or spring showers or the first snow of winter. I will also be open to receiving from others, whether it be in the form of a material gift, money, a compliment or a prayer.

I will make a commitment to keep wealth circulating in my life by giving and receiving life’s most precious gifts: the gifts of caring, affection, appreciation and love. Each time I meet someone, I will silently wish them happiness, joy and laughter.

Today I will witness the choices I make in each moment. And in the mere witnessing of these choices, I will bring them to my conscious awareness. I will know that the best way to prepare for any moment in the future is to be fully conscious in the present.

Whenever I make a choice, I will ask myself two questions: “What are the consequences of this choice that I’m making?” and “Will this choice bring fulfillment and happiness to me and also to those who are affected by this choice?”

I will then ask my heart for guidance and be guided by its message of comfort or discomfort. If the choice feels comfortable, I will plunge ahead with abandon. If the choice feels uncomfortable, I will pause and see the consequences of my action with my inner vision. This guidance will enable me to make spontaneously correct choices for myself and for all those around me.

I will practice Acceptance. Today I will accept people, situations, circumstances, and events as they occur. I will know that this moment is as it should be, because the whole universe is as it should be. I will not struggle against the whole universe by struggling against this moment. My acceptance is total and complete. I accept things as they are this moment, not as I wish they were.

Having accepted things as they are, I will take Responsibility for my situation and for all those events I see as problems. I know that taking responsibility means not blaming anyone or anything for my situation (and this includes myself). I also know that every problem is an opportunity in disguise, and this alertness to opportunities allows me to take this moment and transform it into a greater benefit.

Today my awareness will remain established in Defenselessness. I will relinquish the need to defend my point of view. I will feel no need to convince or persuade others to accept my point of view. I will remain open to all points of view and not be rigidly attached to any one of them.

I will make a list of all my desires. I will carry this list with me wherever I go. I will look at this list before I go into my silence and meditation. I will look at it before I go to sleep at night. I will look at it when I wake up in the morning.

I will release this list of my desires and surrender it to the womb of creation, trusting that when things don’t seem to go my way, there is a reason, and that the cosmic plan has designs for me much grander than even those I have conceived.

I will remind myself to practice present-moment awareness in all my actions. I will refuse to allow obstacles to consume and dissipate the quality of my attention in the present moment. I will accept the present as it is, and manifest the future through my deepest, most cherished intentions and desires.

Today I will commit myself to detachment. I will allow myself and those around me the freedom to be as they are. I will not rigidly impose my idea of how things should be. I will not force solutions on problems, thereby creating new problems. I will participate in everything with detached involvement.

Today I will factor in uncertainty as an essential ingredient of my experience. In my willingness to accept uncertainty, solutions will spontaneously emerge out of the problem, out of the confusion, order and chaos. The more uncertain things seem to be, the more secure I will feel, because uncertainty is my path to freedom. Through the wisdom of uncertainty, I will find my security.

I will step into the field of all possibilities and anticipate the excitement that can occur when I remain open to an infinity of choices. When I step into the field of all possibilities, I will experience all the fun, adventure, magic and mystery of life.

Today I will lovingly nurture the god or goddess in embryo that lies deep within my soul. I will pay attention to the spirit within me that animates both my body and my mind. I will awaken myself to this deep stillness within my heart. I will carry the consciousness of timeless, eternal Being in the midst of time-bound experience.

I will make a list of my unique talents. Then I will list all the things that I love to do while expressing my unique talents. When I express my unique talents and use them in the service of humanity, I lose track of time and create abundance in my life as well as in the lives of others.

I will ask myself daily, “How can I serve?” and “How can I help?” The answers to these questions will allow me to help and serve my fellow human beings with love.

ENJOY!
Thursday, September 27, 2007

This is a HUGE, BIG Question I've been asked.

But I think I have a GREAT ANSWER!!

First let me begin by saying, society sucks.  Society makes you think you are ugly when you're not and not good enough when you are.  We need to turn on society and accept one another as individuals, no matter how strange we may seem to eachother.  Nobody is "perfect" (whatever that is..) but we can all be healthy inside and out!

People say, "Joanie, you're so skinny".  Well, yes, I am.  But you know what, its about 75% Genes and 25% Lifestyle.  I can't help my metabolism being fast, but-   I could be as big as I wanted if I ate like CRAP... I just DON'T.

NO MORE CRAZY DIETS PEOPLE!!

Here are my Tips and Suggestions for a healthy and probably better way of eating.  Try it and see what it does for your body!

I like Veggies!  I like Fruit!  - and so should you!  Eat more and more fruit and veggies in place of things like Steak and fries and Milkshakes.

I don't drink milk or eat meat.  Yep.. I'm going Vegan and Organic.  I absolutely CAN'T STAND FACTORY FARMING, it is so horrible.  (So I guess part of my diet is for the animals too.  lol.)

But Why Vegan?  Because it cleanses the body of the impurities of Pesticides and Chemical Hormones in our food.  Once you stop eating things like milk, beef, chicken and pork you will see a huge change in you body.  And you will never go back.

Think about this quote.  " Joanie, I only eat chicken breast and skim milk and salad".  Yea, that sounds Ok, but it is NOT, really.

That chicken has so many growth hormones and chemicals in it.  These chemicals are stored in your body as well!  Ever see a nine year old little girl with Boobs ?  She's eating hormones in her meat I bet!   If you are going to eat meat, eat organic.

Milk has more bad in it than good, therefore so does cheese and butter.  Milk has hormones too.  Milk is for baby Cows, not human adults.  Its meant to Fatten Up Babies! Baby Cows!  No wonder people gain weight.

SUGAR is so Bad... I personally can't cut all sugar from my life.. I love Twislers and Random candy ends up in my purse.  But Sugar makes you crave more sugar.  Cakes and Doughnuts and all that makes you unhealthy. Its obvious those things are really bad for you, but once you eat one, you want more.

Drink Sugar free juices, and herbal teas.  NO Soda ( Pop).

Artifical sweetners make your muscles die pretty much.   Equal and Splenda are nasty little cancer causers.  You need water and fresh fruit juice.

I have just shocked all of you I'm sure.  But think about it.  This is a natural Healthy way to live.  Eat what you want, but realize every Burger probably came from a drug induced Cow.  Not to mention it was probably killed horribly.

If you don't want to give up meat, its ok.  Just eat Organic Meat and Milk and Cheese.  Stopping your hormone and pesticide intake will change your life!

Here is my list of stuff I would choose to stay healthy.

-As much Organic as you can find. ( I know it may be hard to find Organic in a lot of places.)

-Eat Fruits, Veggies, (especially Green veggies)and Salads, Nuts and Berries, Whole Grain cereal and Breads, Brown Rice, Soy Beans, Rice & Soy Milk, Herbal Decaf Teas, Lots of Water, Beans, and vegan cookies and foods.

-Don't starve yourself, just be real, stopping eating crap and your body will change for the better.

Its a huge change from normal American Eating, but its so right for your body.

Try it out and see what you think.  Give it two weeks and you'll agree you feel better inside.  And you probably will look better on the outside.  Your skin will be better and your body toner.  Don't forget to take walks or go to the gym too.

I hope you like it.. :)  Ps. I'm not a crazy Vegan Hippie.. just a healthy girl. <3

If you haven't already seen it, I get my teeth fixed on TV.

It has changed my life.  I was a bit forced into it, but I am happy I have straight teeth now.  But there are things everyone doesn't know.  Things that Suck.

*it didn't take 3 days.

It took 6 months.  I had to complete the competition with one piece temporaries.  I didn't get my final teeth until March of '06.  The process started in November of '05.

*I cried.

It hurt so bad.  I had to be numbed, gased, and given medication.  Its seriously the most intense thing you will ever go through.

*I got Crowns, not Veneers.

Veneers go on the outside of your whole tooth as a covering or a "wall paper" for your teeth.  I got Crowns... ENTIRE fake teeth, permanently cemented to my real teeth.  Which had been ground down to tiny little tic tacs or pencil points.  So in actuality, I have "fake teeth"

If you are going to get crowns or veneers in place of braces.. I would rethink your decision.  I would trade anything to get braces instead.  Sure, it takes a few years, but at least you have less pain and you have your own teeth.

Veneers aren't that bad.  They actually can be painless.

Thanks for your question.  Hope this answers it.

Hello Friends.

I am writing about issues a lot of you have brought to my attention.  And since I can't write back so many individual letters, I have decided to write these few blogs.

For Those of you going into High School, or are still in High School - Keep your Head Up!  It was  tough for me, but I still had great times and I finished - Thank Goodness!!

I was  "C"  student and I didn't have too many friends, just my close ones, and my friends from church.

I got detentions now and then for being late and I never had money for lunch.  I was in band and I ran track.  My senior year I did student council and theater.  I cheered for one year -( and I have never been able to do more than a cartwheel though... lol)

It was all fun.

Here's my advice:

If you are getting picked on for any reason what so ever, just realize something.  Those people who are picking on you are usually insecure about themselves and need to come down on some just to feel better.  Don't edge people on..

BUT if you are being annoying or a slob and you KNOW THIS... clean it up!

Make yourself a better person - a person people will like.  No one likes a meany or someone who doesn't bathe.

And remember, High School is not that important in the grand scheme of life.. its day care in comparison to the rest of your life.  Just get decent or good grades and do what you can to be involved.

(If you have serious issues that need attention from the staff or the principal, or your life is in danger and you are being seriously threatened, Please go speak to a teacher or parent you trust.  Realize you are going to be ok, and it may be a really tough road, but you can make it.  I know bad things can happen, but stay strong. You may even have to switch schools, but you will be ok.)

Never Give up... and Please Don't Drop Out.  But if you do, please continue your school until you are done.  Its not really that tough, but school can be hard, and confusing. It can be a lot to grasp.  If you need help, just ask a teacher you can trust for help.

I get really disappointed when I hear kids are skipping and fighting in school.  Its really important to finish somehow.  I don't care what anyone tells you about high school diplomas not being important..

I'm not an expert or therapist.  I just wanted to comment on my experiences and tell you to be positive about yours.

I hope this helps out your time in high school.  Enjoy your teen years!

xoxo

I've been getting alot of messages and questions about how girls (and guys) can get into modeling, getting your foot in the door and so on.

Here are some tips. In my opinion of course.

1. Get in shape. Plus size too. Its always good no matter your size to be fit and healthy for your true size.  I am against the anorexic look.  No matter what people tell me, I wont get waif.

( I've been told to lose weight and I can't believe it, how crazy. Stay thin, but stay healthy.. if you are under 115 pounds and over 5'7" I think its TOO THIN!!)

2. DONT WHORE OUT.... dont be a hoochy mama ladies. Guys, don't sag your pants!  NO Rap Videos or Car shows or things like that. Stay Classy, stay in the trends. Stay FASHION!!

3. Start local, if you don't have the means to get to NYC or LA or Miami or Chicago, start as local as you can. Go to your nearest big city and try to get into an agency there.

From that point, if you show true potential, they will help you go bigger.

If you are shorter than 5'7" and you want to model, I think you should do it. Kate Moss isn't even 5'7".  I think modeling is not only about the clothes or the photoshoot, but about the feeling and about being a character.  Anyone can do that.  Expression.  It frees you, and thats one of the reasons why I love it so much.

4. Build your book, don't spend over 300 for a test shoot, if you have to pay at all. Try finding photography students who need to build their book too, and try to trade services.

Do as many free shoots as you can and practice doing your own hair and makeup.. this will help you get better in general, and do better tests when no one is available to do it for you.

5. PRACTICE PRACTICE ... follow your fashion leaders, mimic, walk, pose...

6. Get Smart!  Don't let people Bullshit you!  Be safe, don't let creepy guys tell you its ok to do topless or underwear if YOU are NOT COMFORTABLE.  Sexy isn't always BEST for you!!!

7. CLEAN AND FRESH!  Not too much makeup.  No matter who you meet, look your best!  Clean skin, glowing fresh, (try a tinted moisturizer).

8. GET SLEEP AT NIGHT!

GOOD LUCK!
