Let me tell you what I’ve learnt. I’ve learnt that people are not born good. No matter how hard the more desperate among us will hope, we simply do not enter this world pure and without malice. Malice is what makes us what we are. Evil goes halfway to defining man. When the chips are down, every human only looks for a way to save themselves. What makes us bad is that most of us wouldn’t need those chips anywhere near down before we found an exit. What makes us evil is that a vast number of us actively seek the exits out, while the going is still good. I’ve learnt that no one is ever truly out for the gain of others and no one ever will be; altruism is just another concept invented by romantics to separate us from the animal kingdom, where there are beasts that care more about the welfare of their kind than we do about the people we hurt on a daily basis. I’ve learnt that no one is ever honest, and nothing is ever real. We hide behind our masks and invent new personalities to cover up every crack in our crumbling characters, and no one will be the first to unveil. Our twisted, self absorbed brains scream at us in our heads that we should never share our true opinions or show our true selves; lest we be judged, become vulnerable to attack or give away our sick game plans. I’ve learnt that this is all about self esteem. It does not matter who we hurt or what we do, as long as we feel good about ourselves. Such a trait is so human that it is probably the most revealing aspect of our personalities. Were we visited by beings with higher understandings than our own, we would be pitied for being the weakest life form on our planet; riddled with so many insecurities and so much disdain that we would rather crush a thousand spirits than have our own bruised even slightly. I’ve learnt that in dividing a human bond; be it through death, miscommunication or choice; one does not leave a broken relationship. “Relationship” is just a word; at best, a relationship is a line between two entities on a family tree. What are really left are broken people. In death, there is no hope of bringing with us our favourite underwear or our new cars. In the break down of love, nothing can be done to salvage the happiness that will be lost. No amount of reminiscing on the good times will erase the hard times that follow. I’ve learnt that it isn’t our possessions, our gifts or even our thoughts that live on – it is our actions toward others, the memories we leave them, and the continuation of our attitude through them. No one will realise it until it is too late, not even I; because everyone is too entangled in their own faults and glories to step back and think again; but if we realised that our own lives are of no importance to the world and that the world is in fact of all importance, perhaps some of us would realign our priorities. I’ve learnt that no one will. I doubt I can. I’ve learnt that this is all our problem, and none of it will ever change. I’ve learnt that people are a lost cause. If this life is a test, as some believe, then the way to pass must be simply to strive to be more than human, if it can be done. If the term human defines the way we are now, then too be more would take very little effort. Perhaps too much effort for our self absorbed race. What I’m writing here isn’t a poem; it is not a story; or a song; it is just an experience. One that saddens me to express, but one that is true and doesn’t seem to change. Since nothing can be done to change it, one could wonder why I’m writing about it. I don’t honestly know.

From the lovely guys at Demos Reviewed

Melodic and incredibly beautiful spring to mind when you first heard the song "Explosion Of Exege…". But the lyrics are slightly more sinister than it would first appear. My Chemical Romance for the easy listeners amongst us all.
There's no denying that to pull this kind of music off it not only has to be a conscious decision on your part but you have to have the skills and the talent to make up the foundations and the basis to what you want to achieve. Listing their influences as "Life, Death and Everything In-between" I can believe it. This sound strikes me as being mature before its time and could appeal to classical music lovers as well as Macabre and the darker side of rock lovers alike. Everytime you think the song is over it comes back even more dramatic and in your face. Could almost be theatre, without the smiley jolly faces.
Unbelievably rich in resonance this band could easily fill an album with material such as this and be an underground hit overnight. Unfortunately they have no gig listings for the moment but I would urge anybody reading this who is slightly curious to definitely go to their page and give it a listen!
"Dying From Hypocrisy" is a slightly more tongue in cheek and up beat side of doom. Still eerie and haunting in its best bits with incredibly talented vocal parts you just couldn't lie about. This is lightly more grown up Panic At The Disco. This is the kind of music that has had a lot of thought go into it from the beginning and I personally believe that this band is a very rare find indeed. It's not your average thing that you hear every day!

What I thought: |
I don't know whether anyone else sees this, but there's something extremely important going on with Pulkse.
If you don't see it, then as far as I am concerned, you are missing something fundamentally important.
I wrote an article a few weeks ago about how important Silvercade are, in terms of bridging varying individual musical tastes and bringing former genre enemies together, because certain bands are extremely capable of crossing divisions, pitching in several camps etc...
Right. Something we always bang on about with Pulkse, along with the ongoing musical genius is the weak vocal.
Yes, we do. In this track you'll hear it once again (to begin with), but for the first time in my experience of these gentlemen, the vocal eventually soars.
OK, it takes a good deal of the track for it to happen, but then it happens. The singer man opens his fuckin' heart and lungs and ceases to sob into the mic.
That is it. Off with the grumpy shackles of the weekly Living Atheist moans. We never EVER said the music needed improvement.
On with the voyage into individuality and personal expression. |

What I thought: |
A different sound to 'Exposition of Exegesis'.
To me, this is a darker offering, with the emphasis more on the percussion and vocal. They'll go mental, but this is more of a Thom Yorke effort than the previous number.
It's a quality effort with a clean sound and personality.
Musically good. Again. Thoughtful. Again.
There's a very bright future ahead for Pulkse, should that be their desire. |

What I thought: |
Well, this is some very good stuff…
The whole thing works well together… No one thing tries to outshine the rest which is always nice…
Equally good vocals, guitar, drums and piano (or is it keyboard)… It's also well written…
Yes, I do like this one… I can even get over the fact that the sound like a certain band (sorry!) and enjoy the song for what it is…
It's just, well, lovely! |

Aktuellt humör: tillintetgjord
Pulkse were reviewed by a little company called Living Atheist today. Shat on my vocals, but then we knew they were a bit rushed, and I'm a dweeb. Have a look anyway:

What we thought: |
This is Matthew Bellamy singing in the bath. No?
It's almost like a tribute to those ..:NAMESPACE PREFIX = ST1 />Devon pixies, although that in no way is meant to demean this piece.
Right. To business.
The track is musically very good. It has a fine classical underlay and nice, washing drums. It also has a weak falsetto that somehow Mr. MUSE carries off better.
It's Butterflies and Hurricanes is this, but just not done as well.
OK, let's be fair, this piece of work has one criticism. The vocal needs improvement.
Other than that, it's excellent. It's brave, well thought out and well delivered. Had MUSE not existed, this would be them. You catch my drift.
Go listen and understand how knowledge of classical music makes all the difference between good and bad. X |

I'm an animal. Nothing but a dirty, filthy animal. And so are you. We all are. When it comes down to it, we're no gods. From the noblest of clergy to the sluttiest of wenches, we're all just glorified animals. Beasts that can think with words and sentences. Just because we have the ability, though, does it mean we have the right to destroy the planet we found ourselves on? Does it mean we're better than this? No. We're not responsible enough to be left in charge of a place like this. We've been trusted too much. It took tonight to open my eyes to this. Tomorrow's just a normal day, to you. But to us, it's a day where everything will change. We're in enemy territory, going to impose a bit of order. Carve something out for ourselves. We're on the edge of a trench, extending a hand to you, our comrades, to pull you up above the edge and show you the reality. It's not violence, darkness, hate you have to see above that trench. It can be beautiful. A breathtaking sunrise spraying a kind of warm orange that reminds you you're alive across the clouds. A mother sobbing for her first son's home made birthday present. SWALK. A young couple, walking home from a party which made them ever closer; strong, protective male arms wrapped around a petite, slender female form. The personification of co-dependence. These are the things I find beautiful in the world. These are the things that open my eyes to the fact that it's not all bad. And this is the beauty that you can see with us. If you just drive yourself past that boundary, and into the battlefield of life. Or maybe we'll just find war.

Aktuellt humör: melankolisk
Good morrow. Spring is almost upon us, and Pulkse have recorded a nice little acoustic song to whet your appetite for the upcoming Pulkse EP in the summer. The download's available at The Pulkse Site, in the Media section. Hope you enjoy it. Also, there might be a gig coming up. Who knows? Stay beautiful, you perfect people. Pulkse.
