I've been in Prague for over a week now.
I had a run in with the Cincinnati Police in the airport who wanted me to explain the color of my shoe laces... I went to the Geiger museum, music recording museum, and astronomical museum during my first couple of days. I've seen the famous astronomical clock chime which was a little anticlimactic. Crossed the Charles Bridge. I went to a hotel that Mucha either designed or decorated. A bird let one on my head in the morning of my first day out. I noticed a sex machines museum in the middle of the tourist zone. I realized I left my camera batteries in the pack I didn't bring, so no pics till someone sends them to me. Im going to steal the pics from my flat mates. And Im having considerable difficulty finding the right keys on this crazy Czech keyboard at the internet cafe.
Czech Culture In Prague:I've noticed that the people here are even less accepting of subculture. Even though there are many strange looking hairdos i.e. mohawks, mullets.
Most of the people here speak english though its usually not very good. Also, I cant read anything on the food labels, so I have to guess what it is by the shape, smell, color, or picture on the label.
Life at Pregnant Pictures: Work is long, difficult and how can I complian, I'm in Prague. I've been making puppet mice for the film "The Night Fisherman" at Pregnant Pictures. I started by making fiberglass casts from the mice molds in a cellar. I then cut the casts into pieces and drilled holes for small metal pipes with wires for control for the puppetier. I also worked on an animatronic mouse that looks like it rests upon a steam engine. So far it's my favorite. I've never worked around so many professional puppets before. I've also been making casts of human sized mouse feet gloves for the actors.
I was told that I will be jumping around from working on the puppets to the animatic. I'd really like to move to the computer or use my drawing skills. Building puppets is fun, and I'm very thankful I've got the experience, though I've been dying to touch the computer and work on projects.
I went to Jan Svankmajer's gallery which is underneath his house, though it's pretty small. There is lots of interesting artwork and literature, that's in Czech.
There is plenty to do here. There is lots of art, puppets, theater, museums, and huge sculptures in the streets. Since I get off of work around the time things close, I have to do it on the weekends. And then on the weekends they close even earlier.
Im sure I forgot something. It seems like I've been here a month.
