Katie has always had a knack for
making people smile. The Hollywood
Group’s core classes and her ongoing training with Sterling Studio have added
poise, confidence, and an outgoing and positive outlook, not only in her
acting, but also in her everyday life.
Katie’s acting experiences have encouraged her creativity. She writes plays for her friends and
family to perform. She also writes
her own scripts for the Hollywood Group showcases, impressing several agents
who have expressed an interest, with top marks for her acting technique,
appearance, attitude and believability.
With every showcase, Katie has learned something new, and is improving
everyday. We’re confident she’ll
be signing with an agent in the near future.....
.. ..
The classes the Hollywood Group referred
us to have given her the foundation she needs to continue to grow as an
actor. Katie particularly enjoyed
the Sterling Studio Actors Acting Camp.
At the camp, the actors participate in special classes with guest
teachers (sitcom acting, hiphop dancing, etc.) and learn all about filmmaking. Every actor at the camp gets a part in
a short film that Constance Tillotson wrote. Katie had a great time partaking of the film Karma and playing the character Dareios
in Summer 2008. Constance was
impressed that the group of actors in her scene, they got it in one take!....
.. ..
Katie has been a judge (along
with 30 other children) on two episodes of Beat
the Boss, a BBC TV show. She has been picture-picked for auditions
including a role in the TV show Southland
and as stand-in for a principal actor.
She has auditioned for short films and theater (How the Grinch Stole Christmas.) She had recently done background work for a commercial (the ProtectmyID.com school bus commercial)
and the hit sitcom The Office. ....
.. ..
In The Office, Katie was in a restaurant scene next to the lead table
(with Steve Carrel, Rainn Wilson and guest star Mike Starr). She was on camera for almost the entire
restaurant shoot. As a background
actor, she had a pretend family and pretended to talk, eat, drink and had a
great time. At the end of the day,
we sat next to Mr. Starr in the shuttle back to our cars. I was carrying Katie’s wardrobe
(hangers and all) and accidentally bumped into him; I was mortified, but Mr.
Starr was very gracious and helped us with our things when we reached the
parking lot. I told him that I loved
him in the movie “Dumb and Dumber” and he said, “Good, now we can be
friends!” Before we left, he told
Katie what a nice girl she is.
Katie makes new friends on all of her jobs and is looking forward to
many more, thanks to the Hollywood Group!....

Arianna likes acting as much as most children like playing in the park, riding their bike, or going for a swim! The world of make-believe is to her, what I think most kids want it to be, fun! Acting is anything but a chore for her. She truly loves it, and she truly loves her acting coaches. Her desire to not only be good, but be the best is not surprising to her mom and dad. Everything she does is with a “can-do” spirit and it very much reflects in the way she acts, gets along with other kids, and listens to instruction by her acting coaches. She glows when she talks about acting. It’s something that has always been a part of her life and her parents believe will always be a part of her life. Her other major attribute comes from her desire to learn. Many kids her age want to play video games or watch SpongeBob non-stop. That’s ok, but that’s not her. She would rather read a book and figure out why the stars are in the sky, or why it gets cold during winter.
Arianna’s interest in being in front of the camera began at a very early age. She was on TV, in fact, the day she was born! Her mom was a TV Meteorologist and her dad was a News Anchor at the time. The news station sent the TV crew over to get pictures of her and she was on the air just a few hours later. So she has spent an unusual amount of time in TV news studios and learned that it was essential to be quiet when her parents went on the air. She has “gotten” the whole studio thing for a very long time.
She has always wanted to put on wigs and wear dress up clothes and would beg her mom and dad to take her picture. This all started at the tender age of 2! Being shy is not a part of her game! By the time she hit the age of 7, Mom and Dad decided to let her explore her interest in acting. Arianna auditioned for The Hollywood Group in San Diego and signed with her Talent Coordinator, Cara, a short while later.
After finishing the wonderful classes offered by the Hollywood Group from Little Red Door and others, Arianna decided this was not only something she wanted to continue, she wanted to do more. It was an easy decision to sign her up for ongoing acting classes with Constance Tillotson at Sterling Studios. Hands down, Constance’s energy, love and passion for her students have made this a wonderful experience for Arianna! At her very first showcase in September 2008, 5 of the 6 agents had an interest in her and we decided to sign with ABA Talent Agency in Beverly Hills.
Her first audition came a few months later and she got the callback! She has a great energy and passion for acting and it shows in each audition. The comments we get from casting directors is that she is fun, friendly and genuine. Arianna booked the lead role in a short SAG film called “Decay” set to be released to film festivals throughout the U.S. this winter. Although the hours were grueling, she never complained and had a good time with the role. We are hoping it gets picked up for distribution!
She has also booked a national commercial for Food Lion, a grocery store chain, and a regional commercial for California Union Bank. Most recently, she booked the lead in a SAG film set to begin filming in August called “Certain Liberty.”
Arianna has been picture-picked by Mattel and Wal-Mart and has done background work on Swingtown, Criminal Minds and Worst Week.
Every experience we have had with The Hollywood Group has been great! From the initial audition and the interview with the Coordinator, to our ongoing classes with Sterling Studios and auditions through ABA, it’s been simple. The care The Hollywood Group has for the kids shows, and it’s nice for the kids to be able to be trained properly but without the pressure of doing it quickly. We went through the classes and showcase at our own pace so that Arianna could have fun and still be a kid!
Thank you for everything you’ve done for us!

The Hollywood Group is proud to announce Melissa Lozano, as our June Kid of the Month. Melissa first showed interest in acting and singing when she was only four years old. However, her dreams didn’t really materialize until a few months ago when Melissa and her parents were approached by Kidz in Media representative Linda Bowie at the Ontario Mills Mall. The thirteen year-old from Riverside began life as a Hollywood Group member last September. "I would like to thank Marla Alexander for discovering the potential and talent of our daughter Melissa," states proud parent Miguel Lozano.
Melissa completed the basic workshops shortly after signing up with The Hollywood Group. By November 2008, she was ready to take the next step and meet the VIPs. The Talent Showcase not only went well, but she received a lot of praise from many agents. One in particular, Heather Baldwin of Youth Talent Connection, was more than just casually impressed. She wanted to sign Melissa, and that’s exactly what happened. Needless to say, the Lozano family was tickled to death. "Signing up our daughter with Marla Alexander at The Hollywood Group, and with Heather Baldwin at Youth Talent Connection, have been two of the best decisions we’ve ever made," exclaims Miguel Lozano.
Constance Tillotson has played a pivotal role in the maturation of young Melissa. She meets with Constance and other young actors weekly for ongoing training. Melissa has worked so hard, and has accomplished so much. She is training often, and booking often.
Melissa’s first job was as background talent in the upcoming comedy feature The Hangover, directed by Todd Phillips. Three months later, she booked her very first audition for a bilingual Peter Piper Pizza commercial that would air in the U.S. and Mexico. It was a huge surprise when she found out she booked it! Little did she know, this would be the beginning of her booking success. Six weeks later, Melissa booked her second commercial for Hasbro. "Most actors need more prep time before they’re up and running. Melissa has been exposed to so many fantastic sources at a young age; couple that with her strong will and desire to perform and it makes for a winning combination," says John Kasten, Hollywood Group Talent Coordinator. In a mere nine months, Melissa has accomplished so much...more than most would ever dream of in triple that time. Congratulations on your achievements Melissa, it’s an honor well deserved!

( PRLEAP.COM) May 28, 2009 - Under existing law, minors in California must secure an entertainment work permit ("EWP") from the Labor Commissioner in order to be employed in entertainment productions or as an advertising or print model. For decades, the California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (CA DLSE) has issued these work permits free of charge. On February 23rd, 2009, State of California Assembly Member Mike Davis introduced Bill ( http://www.aroundthecapitol.com/Bills/AB_402), which would require that a fee of $50.00 be charged every time a minor applies for an EWP in the State of California. Since the work permits are valid only six months at a time, this bill would effectively levy a $100 yearly tax on every child wanting to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. In her objective and clearly written analysis, Dana Mitchell indicates that the bill’s stated aim is to enhance the protection of our children on film sets and other production sites. Alas, not a single statistic is provided about any abuse by studios and other entertainment companies who employ children. Mitchell also explains that it is the intent of the bill’s author to utilize some of the funds levied under the proposed law to form squadrons of field inspectors to be dispatched on production studios employing kids, for the purpose of enforcing the labor laws. While the proposed bill closely resembles a solution in search of a problem, its consequences would be very real for one of the very few industries where California enjoys a trade surplus with the rest of the world. The Hollywood Group’s Perla Piekutowski states, "We firmly believe that the work permit application process should continue to be free of charge. Taxing young workers honing their skills in a new industry and thinning the pool of youth talent available for the already dwindling amount of California productions seems like Sacramento’s recipe to harm Hollywood." Parents who want to enable their child’s dream of working in the entertainment business already face an assortment of costs. The creation of a new cost unfairly shuts out lower income families from opportunities in Entertainment. As Bob Zachar of the Hollywood Group states, "Good grades were already a requirement for securing of a work permit. This proposed piece of legislation Bill (AB 402) punishes all at once good students and families of humbler means. I never thought I would live to see the day our State Government proposes to effectively tax work." If you wish to voice your opinion in this matter, you should do so now before it’s too late. This bill is currently being held in suspense with the Appropriations Committee until May 28th when it will be heard and voted on. If the bill passes the Appropriations Committee, it will go to the Senate floor for a final vote. Please contact the Consultant for the Bill, or the Members of the Assembly below to voice your opinion. ( PRLEAP.COM) California’s unemployment figures surpass the nation’s as a whole. The numbers for L.A.’s younger workers are even worse, and strong investments in youth employment development are needed in order to bolster our city’s competitiveness. The business community plays a critical role in helping to reach this goal. This is the reason businesses like The Hollywood Group were invited to a meeting and press conference with Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on the steps of LA’s City Hall in May 2009. In the summer of 2006, Mayor Villaraigosa created the Hire LA’s Youth program, which aims to identify low-income youth and connect them with viable employment opportunities in the City of Los Angeles. A summer part-time or full time job allows these youths to familiarize themselves with the working world and gain valuable skills for their future careers. Statistics show that introducing teens to the working world helps reduce overall unemployment, while early work experiences are credited with a 10 to 20% increase in lifetime earning power. The Hollywood Group’s stock in trade is to provide its membership the opportunity to work in entertainment – therefore, partaking of the HIRE LA’s Youth program is a natural extension of our mission. The Hollywood Group relishes every opportunity to inspire future members of the workforce. This year, Hire LA’s Youth program has increased the goal for its summer jobs program to 16,000 youths, from 13,500 last year. The Hollywood Group applauds the collaborative effort between the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, the City of Los Angeles Community Development Department, and the Workforce Investment Board among others, and is proud to be part of this great initiative. For more information about the Hire LA Youth program, go to www.HIRELAYouth.com. About The Hollywood Group, Inc.
