I was raised in Minnesota and I am a small part Indian and I was NOT really raised with the Native American heritage or culture in my life because my family was embarrassed about it so we weren't really told about it until my mother did some digging in our history when I was young and slowly figured out we were part Chippewa (Ojibwe).
My mother embraced the Native culture over 30 yrs ago and has learned the Ojibwe language fluently and then has worked teaching school on MANY Indian Reservations around the ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />..:NAMESPACE PREFIX = ST1 />Midwest where she met my stepfather 20+ yrs ago.
Nick Hockings is my Stepfather and is now an elder and VERY involved teaching Indian culture ALL over the world where they have done Pow Wow's and Danced for Kings and dignitaries ALL OVER THE WORLD including Russia and Egypt along with MANY other places and Nick has done 100's of assemblies in high schools ALL over the Midwest.
Nick and my mother bought 10 acres of land and made an Indian Village on the Lac Du Flambeau (Lake of the Torches) Indian Reservation to teach the people who are intersted Indian culture as how the Indians lived for 1000's of years before the white man infected their lifestyle.
Lac Du Flambeau (Lake of the Torches) Indian Reservation is named this because the Indians for 1000's of years used to spearfish out of their canoes at night with torches so when the French saw the lake lit up - it got its name from them. The Indians tried bringing back this to their own culture and were shot at on the lake for "fishing" a few weeks before the white people.
This is a archive of their old website as they are still trying to get a new one up as some asshole stole theirs and wants money for it when the webmaster forgot to pay the bill - they STILL NEED someone to help them cuz they have a new page but are having trouble making the new site cuz they aren't puter literate.

HATE CRIMES are still VERY prevalent in today's society as MY MOTHER has boxes of "death threats" she has received over the years and has even been SHOT AT for trying to protect the Indian culture ON THE REZ at a boat landing by "white people" who protested the fact that the Indians get to start fishing a few weeks before the rest of the residents of Wisconsin so when they tried putting the boat in the water - THEY WERE SHOT AT and there were soooo many protesters there that the National Guard had to be called out and the FBI called in.
On 07/07/05 was a REAL BAD DAY for ME and my FAMILY as I had just bought into the World Series of Poker for $10,000 and left the casino on my Harley and as this was the day I got RUN OVER by a car and woke up 3 weeks later from a coma screaming "GET ME TO THE RIO".
What I didn't know what that VERY same night - some dumb punk kids decided my mothers Village would be better burned to the ground so as my mother was feilding calls from Dr's and my friends about if I was going to live or not - she ALSO had to deal with the fact their Village was BURNED completely down by Haters.
My loss of $10,000 (NO Harrah's Inc. NEVER gave me my money back even though I NEVER got to play one hand) and the use of my leg for the last 21 months was and still is devastating - their loss was equally devastating if not more with over $60,000 in damage - and PRICELESS Artifacts destroyed.
The victims were Nick and Charlotte Hockings. The offenders were five young men who had vandalized Waswagoning It still took ALMOST A YEAR to catch these kids because even though there was a reward and they were bragging that they did it - NOBODY cared enough to alert the police for a LONG LONG time.
My mother devised a restitution program that will educate these kids and if they EVER decide to fuck up again they will pay a HUGE price because there is NO 2nd chance for them and you can read about the incedent and the Northwoods Restorative Justice program here.

Nick along with my mother rebuilt the Village the best they could and they will be doing tours again this year as they are NOW going into Maple Sugar season where they teach people how to tap trees and make the sugar.
Thirza on my top 24 is from the Lac Du Flambeau Indian Reservation and I have known her since she was a little girl and she is one of the best hoop dancers in the Indian community and has danced with my parents ALL over the world.
Thirza is NOW a professionally trained actress here in Hollywood and has actually gotten a few real good roles in Movies and Plays.
Thirza will be doing this production here in LA next week
