Current mood: excited
Our next film is very much heavily in pre production, it's been cast, locations are being pondered over and first rehearsals are happening on Wednesday. It's a modern, rural, Irish fairytale, don't want to give much away drop us a mail if your curious and would like to read the script. Pretty much its about Connolly a desperate, broke man, who meets Mary Pearl, the local legend who is said to grant good fortune through her song.
Written and co produced by Charlene, co produced by Emmet and shot and directed by me, Bren.
A fine cast we have too, two actors we've already worked with and we're chuffed to have them in another film, playing Mary Pearl is the Aenne Barr (Scarlett from Scarlett's Bodies), playing O'Malley the barman is Barry McGettigan (Michael from The Last Minutes of Alan Winters). And joining us is Brian McHale Boyle a fine actor who is filling the role of Connolly.
Shooting happens in October, small crew, on Jessica me oul XL2. Can't wait!

Hi everybody, really should have blogged this earlier but if you have a time machine hop back to Wednesday the 17 of June and go to the Short Film Showcase in Dinn Ri in Carlow. The Showcase was part of the Prestigious Eigse Carlow Arts Festival, which has been runnng for 30 years, without a film program. But as we all know, film is as much a part of the arts as anything else. And Scarlett Pictures very own Charlene was both campaigner for a film program and is now the film curator of the festival. There has been film workshops, special screenings of the Kilkenny made Secret of Kells, on Monday there will be a screening of Atonement with special Oscar nominated guest Saoirse Ronan (a Carlow native) and of course there was the Short Film Showcase, which screened two of our films.
Now I know what your thinking, two films?! And Charlene was the film curator, nepotism. But don't worry they went through a panel of judges who weren't aware of any connections. Anyway I submitted three and one was rejected so if there was any nepotism all three would have being screened damnit! One of films being the now 6 years old Shadow, it's damn old, we made it when we were just innocent college students, don't know how it feels on the net but crowds really respond to it. The other being The Last Minutes of Alan Winters, which also got good response.
The night was a great success and it was particularly good crowd. Also has to be mentioned some of the other films we saw, some of which we got to meet the makers of, Tiger Tom (Nial Michael Molloy), Deviant (Gerard Lough) and The Bet (Richard Kearney) particular stand-outs personally. You should Google them. Saoirse Ronan was also in attendance, a very friendly young girl who seemed to like our film, so we like her.
see yis

This feckin film has been years in post but finally we have a final version. Any previous version you may have seen omitted one of our favourite sequences and finally it's in and this is the final version, no more Ridley Scotting about. We've learned a lot from making this film. And we're sorry to people we've kept waiting. Luke, Barry and Deirdre and now Nick the talented musician you hear (apart from that hummy stuff when Alan dies that's Moby....gratis). It's been chopped, sliced, burnt, ripped, switched, screened, posted, uploaded, downloaded, changed and screwed around with more than any other film we've made, the amount of times this has been burnt onto a DVD only for us to notice another flaw, I'm not exagerating when I say we wasted 2,4593 DVDs. Hell this film was screened in a cinema and we still weren't finished! The actress Deirdre was pregnant while shooting this film, the kid got married last week! So please click on this link, watch it, ignore the flaws, then favourite it, rate it, stumble it, digg it, twitter it, blog it and download it. http://vimeo.com/3372488 THE LAST MINUTES OF ALAN WINTERS
Alan dies of a heart attack but is given the chance to go back and change his last minutes to something more poignant than shouting "don't forget the hoover bags" at his wife. Starring Luke Cameron, Deirdre McCabe and Barry McGettigan.
written and directed by Emmet Vincent produced by Charlene Lydon camera, editing and special effects by Brendan Murphy art and design Rebecca Craig sound Nicola Jackson (and Cha) assistant director Danny Steele
Shot in my sister's house
A film by Scarlett Pictures.

Yep The Revue (revuecinema.ca) an independent cinema in Toronto who has shown some of our shorts wrote an article in their Newsletter a couple of weeks ago, actually it's not on their site anymore, it's a bi-weekly and I only thought of mentioning it now, but here's the article, apologies for it looking weird, it's pasted from a PDF and... ye know.
Young Irish talent on the Revue’s screen Visiting filmmakers from Emerald Isle dropped their short at cinema’s program BY KATE SCULLIN Since its launch in early 2008, Drop Your Shorts, a staple of Revue community programming, has showcased an eclectic mix of non-juried short fi lms by local talent and international guests. One of the highlights of DYS IV was opening film Scarlett’s Bodies, a beautifully costumed and scored ode to the many incarnations of a painter’s muse, created by four young fi lmmakers from Dublin, Ireland. Rebecca Craig, Brendan Murphy, Charlene Lydon and Emmet Vincent have been making fi lms together since they met in 2002 in university. Drawn to the film community, they came to Toronto on work visas and happily found a venue in DYS. “We heard about the Revue when we first got here,” says Lydon. “Now we keep telling people at home about it, how the community came together to save a cinema. It’s Capra-esque! We’re very pleased to be able to show our films here.” Operating as Scarlett Pictures, the four have made Toronto their temporary home for almost a year. Vincent teaches ESL; the others are temping, which “is good, because you actually get to meet lots of film people and actors,” says Craig. “They’re all temping.” She also volunteered at TIFF, noting the number of Irish and Irishthemed fi lms screened this year. “It’s interesting to come abroad and fi nd that Irish film is infl uential here.” All four cite Toronto’s wide variety of cinemas and good DVD rental shops as one of the city’s selling points. “In Dublin, there are very few places that show old or independent fi lms,” Murphy says. Censorship has also been a limiting factor for the Irish movie scene, with many fi lms banned or edited to meet strict censor guidelines. “We thought we had seen Pink Flamingos,” he says with a laugh. “And then we rented it here... it was like a different movie.” Film is, however, a growing industry in Ireland, and the Emerald Isle provides a scenic backdrop for many Hollywood productions. “Anything set in the old time,” says Vincent. “Anything that requires a fi eld!” adds Murphy. Although there is less funding for domestic product, they say things have improved in recent years, citing successes by Lenny Abrahamson and Neil Jordan, as well as John Carney’s international phenomenon Once. Scarlett Pictures leaves Toronto this fall. Vincent will begin writing a feature fi lm and apply to a graduate scriptwriting program. Craig plans to work in the industry and do a course in fi lm production. Lydon and Murphy hope to open a screening room in Dublin for independent fi lms. (“We may have to contact the Revue for advice,” Lydon says.) And they will continue to make pictures together. DYS V will take place Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. Films will be accepted at the Revue on Saturday, Oct. 18, between noon and 1:30 p.m. See revuecinema.ca/dropyourshorts for guidelines.

After two years of scratching our arses we finally got a cut of The Last Minutes of Alan Winters together for a screening in the Revue Cinema in Toronto, we had to cut a whole sequence out of the film to get it down to near 15 minutes for them so what we now have is a short slightly rough cut for our 3 fans to see, theres a fuzzy version on our myspace, but for a better quality version go here (Vimeo by the way, great place to put your stuff online and avoid the low quality, 10 minute limit and complete eegits of Youtube) Anyways, yes soon we'll have a smoother longer cut. In other news we're working on a short about the past, present and future of the plague that is reality TV. Gotta go Rock of Love is on! don't forget the hoover bags, BREN

We recently put an ad on the Canadian Craigslist looking for some music for The Last Minutes of Alan Winters, the film has been in constant limbo regarding music and moving abroad has not helped that as well as our original musician becoming a daddy slowing down the whole process, it was forgotten for a while until we got back in film-making mindset and said feck it lets just finish this bastard film.
The response to our ad was quite big with scores of various music artists offering to compose and let us use their music, we listened to a lot of really good stuff and so far one or two pieces of music by the talented Nick Worrall www.myspace.com/nickworrall is to be added to the film. He has some seriously nice stuff.
What's great is that we now have a huge database of talented musicians in our Gmail account and we will most likely be in contact some in the future.
For one scene wer are currently using Moby music we attained the rights to through Mobygratis.com but if any independent musicians have something they could offer thats similar we'd most likely change it.
But yeah it was amazing the amount of people who wanted us to use their music for our silly little film, thanks guys. Happy Paddy's Day! BREN
