It feels a tad unreal after not officially releasing new music for 5 years...but my new E.P. "signals and goodbyes" is finally coming out August 25 on iTunes! I'm really excited and nervous about doing music again, but overall I'm proud of this mini collection of songs and I hope anyone who is still around and keeping in touch with what I'm up to enjoys listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it. It's been a bit of a journey but I've learned a lot and can only grow from here.
That's all I want to say for the moment but I'll be unveiling more as the weeks progress! :)
Check back soon!! xo m

Current mood: happy
Hey everyone!
I just got back from Toronto where I mixed the new songs with Creighton Doane (he produced my first album). I'm really excited with how things turned out, and I can't wait to finally release these new songs. It's been too long! I have a couple of minor tweaks to make and then we'll be mastering it and sending it out into iTunes land.
I don't have a specific release date yet but I hope to have it out by May...just looking into getting some artwork done now. :)
I've decided on the title...I'm calling it "signals and goodbyes". Feel free to weigh in.
I'll be re-doing my MySpace and website soon and I'll post new songs once we've mastered them.
It's all coming together! :) xo m

Hey all, Just did a fun show tonight at Starbucks. I love Starbucks! Haha. Thanks Stephanie for inviting me to play! It was a very cool vibe and saw some nice new acts I hadn't seen before. :) Anyways, I just posted a demo of the last song I played tonight. I recorded/produced this last summer when I was in Toronto. I'm updating it for the next album, but thought you might like to listen since it's been forever since I've posted new tunes. Thanks for all the supporters still out there. Now that my degree is almost done I'm getting back to work on this music thing.

Current mood: excited
Hello to all out in MySpace land and beyond...
I just wanted to let you all know that I am doing well and am busy finishing up my year at school. It's been a long year, and yet it's flown by pretty quickly. I have been in an intense state of writing, to the point where I now have so many songs that I don't know what to do with them all. It is a good place to be as an artist!!
I feel I've been very much putting my music career on the backburner while I have been working away at my degree, and I'm sure you can all agree since it has been three years since my first album was released, and I haven't put up anything new really let alone done any shows lately. I HAVE recorded some stuff and had pretty much finished an EP, but I'm just not feeling it is the right direction for me at this time. Whatever I release next really has to reflect my growth as a songwriter and vocalist, and therefore I'm waiting till all the pieces fall into place so I can make that happen.
With that said, I'm heading to Toronto for the summer come this months end. I'm planning on doing some work with my good friend Melanie Doane, as well as working with her brother some at his studio. He co-produced my first record. I'm excited about being back in an environment that I find to be so creative and inspiring. Wonderful things will result, I'm sure of it. I'm also excited about getting to live in downtown T.O. again, especially since I'll be getting to see my best friend David lots. He moved almost a year ago now and it's been a very odd year not having him around, so it'll be a fun summer!!
I just wanted to thank all of you who continue to send me messages of encouragement and support my career. I'm hoping within the next year I'll have the time to be more dedicated and give you an album that reflects not only my growth, but yours as well. It's been a journey thus far and I hope you'll continue to travel with me. . .
lots of love,
xoxo

Hey everyone,
I just posted a demo of my new song "The Wrong Bus". I usually don't like to share recordings that are not finished yet, but I've been promising new songs for awhile now and I love this song, so I thought I'd send it out into the MySpace world and get some feedback from the people that matter most [ that's you. :) ] Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.
This is one of my favourite songs of the new ones. The lyric was actually written on the bus one day when I had stepped onto the wrong bus. This whole experience of traveling in the opposite direction of where I wanted to be heading got me thinking about some of the relationships I have been in, and how much of myself I have compromised in an attempt to make something work that was wrong from the beginning. Essentially the wrong bus is a metaphor for those relationships that teach us who we really are, and give us perspective on how we get to where we want to be.
The recording isn't final but you'll get the idea of how it's going to sound. :) The lyrics are posted below.
I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday, and spend it with the people that matter most to you. Be kind to yourself and the people around you.
Much love and best wishes to all, mitchell xo

"The Wrong Bus" (lyrics and music by Mitchell Hunter, Copyright 2005 SOCAN / Mitchell Hunter Music Inc.)
Caught the wrong bus and I caught myself thinking of you And all the things that I once use to do Here I sit wearing black when I'm feeling blue, inside I could fill every empty seat with memories Of how I tried to be everything you wanted me to be And how that was never enough to make you happy, with me
But you can't fight the feeling that comes around When your heart loses out to your head No you know when it's time to start moving on your own way
It's a long way home It's a long way over this bridge It's a long night, for the wrong bus ride But I'll be alright
There are pieces of me that you'd never let be Locked away in a drawer and you threw out the key Made me think I'm more myself with you than with me, but that's a lie So out the window I stare so afraid of the world Like a child on his very first day of school But I grow wiser now that I'm not growing older, with you
But you can't fight the feeling that comes around When the wheel spins out of your hands No you know when it's time to stop leaning on the brake
It's a long way home It's a long way over this bridge It's a long night, for the wrong bus ride But I'll be alright
It's a long way home It's a long way over this bridge It's a long night, for the wrong bus ride But I'll be alright But I'll be alright
Caught the wrong bus and I caught myself thinking of you

Current mood: sleepy
"Shut Up And Sing" finally opened in my hometown this weekend. It was a great film. I was glad that they focussed less on politics, and focussed more on the lives of the girls and the creative process behind "Taking The Long Way". It was very inspiring, and the political message was still delivered effectively and respectfully. (Minus the "you are a dumbf*ck* comment, which was absolutely hilarious I might add.)
It feels like I've been taking the long way, creatively, as I work on new music. I was in the studio today, and after 3 months of trying to get a drum track that sounds right for "The Wrong Bus", Jamie and I actually did it. Obviously we haven't been working on it daily. Far from it. We sparatically tackle it every few weeks for a few hours, whenever our schedules permit. However, it was just one of those cursed songs where nothing would ever work. We continuously had technical difficulties when recording it, and only it. It was odd. The computers would just stop working, yet when we switched to a different song everything would be fine. Anyways, I feel it's finally off to a great start, and I hope to finish it next weekend.
I know the new music feels like it's taking forever, after I promised it would be quick. School has taken a hit at my free time to work on music, and unfortunately that has become the reality of the situation. However, I do feel like I am creatively in a better state of mind lately. I'm writing a lot more, which could influence the output of my original intended release.
In the meantime however, we recorded the show I did at the Mersey House a week and a half ago, and hopefully by early next week I'll have live tracks from the show up on Myspace. I'm going to hopefully have a chance to listen through them this week and pick which songs to put up. It's just piano vocal stuff, but for those of you around the world who haven't seen me play live, it will give you an idea of what I sound like now...since the first record was recorded so long ago.
I'll post more when I put up the tracks.
