Hello from lovely Newark, Well, I guess it's my month to have travel issues. Holy moley. I arrived at the airport at noon for my flight and actually boarded on-time. Got out to the runway and they said we had a 45 minute delay. No biggie--I had an In Style Magazine I wanted to peruse. Approximately a half-hour later, the pilot announces we are going to officially depart to Minneapolis. The plane begins to taxi and then it abruptly stops. The pilot said that the plane is having brake issues and had to call the Fire Department. What? Now, I'm worried. The fire trucks show up and they decide to escort us back to our gate. As we are taxing to our gate there was a very loud BOOM. Everyone freaked out. The plane stopped and the pilot reported, "Well, folks, we just blew a tire." So, then a caravan of police vehicles and two large buses came to get us off the runway. I boarded the bus and after standing in line for 45 minutes, I was re-issued a ticket for an evening flight to Minneapolis. I don't really think I can take anymore excitement today. I'm going to go use my $5 voucher for being inconvenienced and grab a beer. On the bright side, I did wear all my clothing correctly. :) ********************************************************************************************************* I hope to see many of this weekend. I have 2 shows and an appearance on KARE 11. It would be great to see some friendly Midwestern faces! Friday, Oct. 9th KARE 11 10AM Showcase Minnesota with Matt Patrick Friday, Oct. 9th Acoustic Cafe Winona, MN 8pm Saturday, October 10th Bryant Lake Bowl w/ the All Man Band Minneapolis, MN Doors open at 9:30PM Mother Banjo opens the show ************************************************************************************************************ Couple of very nice reviews have come through for "Long Ride." Hello!
Well, the new album arrived safe and sound and the tour begins today! Yeehaw! Now, I'm not a huge fan of Monday mornings but all you can do is roll out of bed and begin the countdown to Friday, right? Well, I rolled out of bed this morning, finished packing for my tour, said goodbye to the hubster and left our apartment at the early hour of 8:30AM. (**This is early for me.) I walked the two blocks to the subway entrance rolling my suitcase with my guitar strapped to my back, grabbed an AM New York for the subway ride to JFK and made my way to the A/C platform. As I wound down the ramp, I happen upon a man standing in the corner------urinating----publicly. Now, it's not like there aren't a lot of people in the subway at this hour. This is rush hour! So, of course, I was horrified. Now here's the strange thing, folks--I was the only one stopped dead in my tracks with my eyes bugging out of my head. Those New Yorkers just kept right on truckin' past the pee-er as if he didn't exist. Now, that wasn't at all how I envisioned my day starting. THEN, I get to JFK after an eternally long subway ride because the driver decided to make all local stops instead of going express like he is supposed to. I check my bag and stand in th e most inefficient security line EVER only to get to the security guard (the one that checks your ID) who says "Hey, your shirt is on backwards." And he was right. So, folks, that is how my day has been and I really hope it isn't indicative of how this week will go!!! ****************************************************************************************************************** Here's what some local folks said this week: Troy Espe, Entertainment Editor for the Eau Claire Leader, said: "Singer-songwriter, Vicky Emerson, hones her sound on "Long Ride." The album simmers with honest lyrics, smoldering melodies and Emerson's angelic vocals. Tess Morgan from The Mix in Eau Claire said: “D reamy and serene, Vicky Emerson has an uncanny way of telling a story that it feels like it’s your own. Whether it’s back in your childhood or covering the distance between two people, “Long Ride” is filled with trips we all take. This album feels like you are listening to your best friend tell you things you’ve never heard them say before – like they are opening their heart for the first time. I find myself holding my breath – afraid to miss a single note. Vicky creates a strong connection to the listener through her lyrics and also has such sincerity in her velvety voice – you can’t help but be captivated.” Please come to the Mabel Tainter in Menomonie, WI on Saturday, Sept. 26th at 7:30pm! Tickets can be purchased at 715.235.0001 or www.mabeltainter.com. This will be an awesome show! I'm on my way right now to rehearse with the All Man Band. Okay, lots of tour dates are listed on the website at www.vickyemerson.com, so please swing by. Lots of exciting stuff happening that I will share in the next update!! Hope all is well~ Vicky ....

Well, the CD's have made it to the printer! It seems like a lifetime ago that we recorded the album in Minneapolis but it was only this past June! Time flies when you are having fun...and eating cheese curds. Which, I am happy to report, that I was able to obtain some cheese curds at the Pierce County Fair in Ellsworth, WI. They were delicious!! Speaking of county fairs, I'd like to share a song from "Long Ride" and a video. The song is called "Ferris Wheel" and it is dedicated to my Dad. My dad was a teacher and a farmer, so if he wasn't at school, he was out in the fields working. I am the oldest, so I became his little helper at a pretty young age. I have many memories of sharing time with my Dad but one of my favorites is the Ferris Wheel. It was my very first ride I was able to go on as a young child and I went on the ride with my Dad. As you will hear in the song, sitting on the top of the Ferris Wheel was like being the 'girl on top of the world.' I felt like I could see the entire universe from the top of that ride and sitting beside me was my Dad laughing at how excited I was and enjoying the fact that we were able to share the experience together. My Mom and Dad have given me the opportunity, support and love to dream as big and as bold as I wanted to and for that, I am truly, truly thankful. I couldn't have pursued my career in music without them. I hope you enjoy this video and song as much as I did creating them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzbveVvYtrI Also, it's time for pre-sales!!! Pre-sales help to offset production and duplication costs for "Long Ride." I will mail you a copy just as soon as I get them in early September. All you have to do is print out the form and mail it to me with a check or feel free to Paypal at vickyemerson@aol.com. Here's the form (also available on my website, too): http://www.vickyemerson.com/orderform0809.pdf

Matt Patrick, who is doing an amazing job producing "Long Ride", is working his magic on the new songs and I'm very excited to unveil a few preview mixes of 3 songs today plus a YouTube video of "Next to You" from the Bugle Boy! They are on the website at www.vickyemerson.com or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_8z7yee7_M. The title track is what you will hear first on the website. I wrote that song last summer. I was on the road for a two week tour in the Midwest and starting to feel the wear and tear of living out of my car as well as missin' my hubby. I was folding laundry and this little melody came into my head and I started humming/mumbling, "I'd take you on a long ride.take you on the road...I'd take you on a long ride before I take you home." I put down the laundry, grabbed my guitar and started writing about all the places that I have played shows at as well as all the beautiful scenery I have been able to see on my travels across this great nation of ours.
So, as the album is on it's way to being finished, the real work begins. My friend, singer/songwriter Terri Hendrix (www.terrihendrix.com), says "It's the part that ain't art" and folks, that is the truth! Many independent artists are seeking new and creative ways to help produce their records and cover the costs associated with production, duplication, and promotion. As I began the process of piecing together this album, I've received many, many emails from ya'll offering encouragement and offers of assistance. I'm from a long line of stubborn Swedes, so in the past, I've politely declined any help. However, as this album begins to take shape, it is apparent that this one will be very special.
As I considered how people could help and read about other artists connecting with their fan base to help release albums, I came up with an idea for folks to be a part of "Long Ride." I know many of you enjoy reading my email updates and I hope you realize that you are such an important part of my journey. So, if you would like to be a special part of "Long Ride", please click on the link below which will take you to the CD Sponsorship form. All proceeds go directly to paying the musicians, the recording process, duplication, artwork, publicity and radio promotion. So, please take a swing by my website, take a listen and just mail the form to me if you're interested in coming along with me on a "Long Ride."
