After much on-and-off effort I have finally figured out how to hook-up my Wii to the internet.  Ah, success!

It's a nice distraction from learning Lithuanian which is... time-consuming at best and insanity-inducing at worst.  The good news is that this seems to be an attitude all my coworkers share-- no matter what language they've learned.

The bad news is that it's making me crazy.  But they say that everyone hits these kind of "walls" where they make no progress and then all of a sudden, things just become clear.  I hope clarity happens soon but I'm a little afraid that the price for it is that I'm basically going to be writing (and rewriting!) my own textbook as we go along.  Here's hoping I'll find an easier way soon.

But I did become a Wii pro baseball player this week!

We are moved!  And on to our next adventure- learning Lithuanian.

And, as a long-awaited present to myself for surviving said move, I just bought a Wii.  So, what games should I get?  Suggestions welcome!

Happy 2009 everyone!

My new year started off less than stellar, with a flat tire when we got back to the car at the airport.  It's getting looked at now so hopefully that drama'll be over soon.

Car aside, good friends, good food and some good shopping.  Who can complain?  We didn't manage to squeeze quite everything in but, for the amount of time we were on the road, I was quite pleased with out progress.

Now it's back to my laundry, the grocery store, and work...

My wife just ran into Canadian friends of ours at the market this morning. When she told them we were leaving again (for Christmas) they told her we're always traveling.

And it's true lately. Of course, we also spent a lot of time over the past two years with our butts glued right here. We didn't go anywhere this summer, or even last year, really. But now we're running all over the place, usually to the US. Which is a little strange, because that's where we're going to be for the next year. So, I dunno. Maybe once we're down there we'll spend all of our time running back up to Canada? But I don't think so. The reality is, we're not going to have a lot of time to travel at all next year. Language training requires 100% attendance, so most of the time we won't be able to just pack-up and go someplace.

I'm looking forward to being home for New Year's and seeing everyone. I was thinking about it, and we've all really grown in the past year. The unhappy with their jobs are going back to school, the perpetually single are exploring committed relationships and I think I can count on one hand the number of people I know who are still living with their parents... life moves on, I guess.

If you're looking for another blog to read while I'm off in the ether, I'd recommend the following:
Life After Jerusalem

Digger does a great job of recapping other State Department blogs and we share an interest in GLBT issues. Really a great read!

About a month ago, I called someone at work a poindexter.  Most people had no idea what I was talking about...  I would've thought that even if you missed the Felix the Cat reference, you'd know this...  guess not.  It's got Flea in stuffed-animal pants though, how could this song not rule???

Also, it's a little embarassing how much of this song I can still sing!

And, since we're here, another oldie but goodie.  It's the karakoe version so you can sing along too.  It's amazing how much milider rap was back in 1979 and how long this song is!

MSN slideshow here, includes Target and Apple Jacks.  :)

Also, pics from El Salvador are up on facebook.  Let me know if you're interested in another format and I'll make an effort to supply them sooner rather than later!

Since the debates were pretty anti-climactic, I'm turning my attention away from the real world and on to the new season of television.

I'm watching:

Life -it's smart, it's got Sarah Shahi from the L Word and there's finally a cop drama I find palatable.

The Big Bang Theory -it reminds me of all the geeks I used to work with.  And, oh, it's smart.

90210 -it's not smart.  But I didn't watch the first one last go-around and now I feel compelled.

Gossip Girl -what 90210 was before the new 90210.   We don't actually get this channel anymore and it's a little depressing.  But probably a better use of my time.  You know, so I can do important things, like laundry.

Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy.  If you don't know what these are, I can't help you.

Eventually I'll watch Pushing Dasies but I'll have to be home on a Wed first.

I'm a little interested in Kath and Kim, another show I haven't caught yet.

Anything else I should be watching this season?  I'll try anything- as long as it's on Canadian cable!

If you're don't have Canadian cable, just play the following, ad-nauseum:

And, it's also the last season of Corner Gas!  Watch it now before it's too late!

Okay, it's a meme.  But it's about food!!!

The Omnivore's Hundred is a list of foods the gastronomic Andrew Wheeler thinks everyone should try at least once in their lives.

The rules of the meme:

* Bold those you have tried.
* Underline those you wouldn't eat on a bet.
* Italicize any item you'll never eat again.
* Asterisk any items you'd be interested in trying but have not yet.

1. Venison  (not a big meat eater.  this'll be a theme)
