Well, the exciting news is the AV festival which is the largest festival of it's kind in the UK will be using NE1fm as it's official station in the Newcastle and Gateshead area.

From the launch on Thursday 28th February, we'll be featuring special programmes and events that are happening over the following 10 days.

We're also moving our "Flying Studio" into the Discovery Museum for the duration, and most of our daytime shows will be broadcast from there.

See the official AV Festival website for more information, there's loads going on!

Hi All, it's been a while since we got round to ye olde myspace! Forgive us but we're all so busy these days!

So, the big news is, we now have a fully functioning (and pretty darn smart) second studio!
Yes ladies and gents, we now have much more flexibility when it comes to training you lovely new presenters, pre-recording shows, and well, a whole host of things!

I must also remind our current presenters and volunteers (and any of you who've put a show application in recently) to get along to the next presenter's n volunteers meeting. The meeting is MONDAY 12TH NOVEMBER 7PM at the station.

This, for all you who dont know, is where we discuss new shows, any problems presenters may have, new rules we may be implementing and a whole load of very important info regarding the station! These meetings really ARE important for presenters to attend!

One such thing on the agenda this week is the next schedule - specifically how it falls over Xmas - the rotation runs from the 26th November to 31 December, some shows may need to be replaced with Christmas programming or you may want to put in for a one of Xmas show yourself... this is the time to get those requests in!

I hope everyone is enjoying the work we do here at NE1fm and the great mix of programming we produce - remember this is YOUR station, if your a resident of Newcastle / Gateshead get yourself involved with the station and make radio YOU want to listen to!

We're having a presenter's meeting this monday (10th), 7pm at the NE1 fm studios, Shieldfield.

This meeting is for every NE1 fm presenter (past, present or future) to find out  information, feedback and take an active part in the community that is NE1 fm.

Attendance is encouraged, as many things get covered in addition to meeting some of the other people who are making NE1 fm rock.

These meetings happen every 3 weeks on a monday (unless otherwise notified), and as information changes from meeting to meeting we recommend attending as many as possible.

We had a great two days at the Mela Festival in Newcastle this bank holiday weekend.

We set up our huge marquee next to the Community stage and put our flying studio inside it, with presenters playing music as well as interviews and live links with the community stage. We also had Monjer's car parked in it!

It was a great couple of days, and we did donate a couple of NE1 fm t-shirts to be thrown out to the audience, but we will be taking more things to throw out if we do it again!! The weather was fantastic, and despite getting really cold on Monday later on, it didn't actually rain until after we'd finished moving equipment!

We'll be putting together the clips we have along with some of the material we have yet to edit into highlight programmes in the next few weeks.

Ok, so you've noticed the addition of the stream on the myspace, if you're an old friend of NE1 fm !! Well, unfortunately the website is coming along slowly, but it'll be better than ever really soon, we promise.

In the meantime, we'll try and keep the myspace as up to date as possible (though time has been spent on website and running of NE1 fm and the myspace has been a little neglected the past week or so.)

So here's a run down on what to expect to listen to when you're on our myspace! Get in touch with the studio on studio@ne1fm.com or phone (0191) 240 1025.

Monday to Friday for the next two weeks we have:

Midnight - 10am   Mix of Hits - Music from the past 40 years

There are opportunities for training in all aspects of radio, call us on 0191 240 1025 to ask more about getting an open mic slot, training or volunteering with us.

Calling all handy persons!!!

We've been awarded £5000 of B+Q funding to buy goods from their store, and we've almost spent it- the orders are in the system being processed now and will be ready to collect soon.

Jobs that we're gonna need skilled (or enthusiastic!!) help with include - Gardening (strimming down our field(!), trimming the hedges, weeding, planting and arranging furniture) Carpentry (building furniture out of MDF, building wall panels etc) Carpet Laying (on the walls mostly!) Painting (outside mostly, up ladders a fair bit too) Fence Spraying and other such jobs.

If anyone is able to do any of this, then please send us a message here, or send an email to volunteering@ne1fm.com to let us know what you can do and when. We'll be having a couple of weekends dedicated to the work, as well some all-nighters happening.

If you're able to help in other ways for example making tea or coffee, use of a van (for transporting materials from the store in Byker to the studios in Shieldfield) then please drop us a line too.

Hi there. We're really sorry that the new schedule isn't up yet- it's a busy time of year and we're trying to get caught up at bit!

The next schedule which is due to start on September 3rd is shaping up nicely, and should be ready for Monday 20th August at our presenters' meeting.

The presenters meeting is a chance for everyone to get vital information, meet each other and is open to people who have a show, had a show or would like to to come along and chat. It's happening at 7pm at the NE1 fm studios in Shieldfield. It will be followed by a trip to a nearby bar for anyone wishing to partake- though it's not compulsory!! (but we do have a no alcohol in the building rule which means nothing alcoholic in the bottle or in the bloodstream).

Hope to see lots of you there!

Friday, July 20, 2007

Well, it's so hard to believe that it's 6 weeks since we went on air!!

We'll put the new schedule up this weekend, many of the shows from the first 6 weeks of the broadcast are on it, as well as some really exciting additions.

NE1 for Breakfast? is due to land any week now 8-10am!!

Weekdays are taking on a new shape- new shows include Steff's Dodgy Lunch (community items, interviews, chat and music)12-2pm Monday-Thursday, and Live Life To The Full (disability issues, promoting ability rather than disability) Fridays 12-2pm.

Some of the new weeknight additions include Public Demand (bhangra, bollywood and much much more) on Wednesday 9-11pm, Jambo Africa (african music) on Thursday 7pm-9pm, Newcastle Beats on a thursday night 9-11pm, and Friday 7-9pm is the Friday Mix (music to start your weekend with style).

The weekend is full from start to end- we've got quizzes, sports, music shows, Bollywood- far too much to list here without putting up the whole schedule!!

We've also confirmed a number of shows for the next schedule rotation (September/October) including NE1's Words (local creative writers contributing to create an awesome show- email writers@ne1fm.com if you'd like to join them) Funky Days (adults with learning difficulties presenting and producing a show featuring issues, favourite music and much more) and The Elder's Council (championing the excellent work of the Elder's Council and giving an older person's perspective on  life)

We've also got a number of youth and community groups across the Newcastle/Gateshead area who'll be having shows so keep it locked on 102.5fm.

As you can see, it's really getting exciting. If you want to be part of this (and you live in Newcastle upon Tyne/Gateshead) then it's never too late. Download an application form (downloads section on our website, www.ne1fm.com) read our Guidelines and Regulations (also on download section, full of info on having a show on NE1fm) The next schedule will be getting sorted in 3 weeks time, so there's plenty of time to get an application for the 3rd rotation starting September 3rd.

Or- if you want to help out and make the station a great place to be, we're always looking for volunteers to staff the station and do odd jobs- we've got loads of DIY/gardening work to do over the next 6 weeks to make the place look and feel amazing. Email volunteers@ne1fm.com to place your name in history- the future is now, be part of the radio revolution!
