Current mood:utter monolithic despair and dread

This week we took a trip to London to sample the wares of TV chef Gordon Ramsay at his flagship Maze restaurant. With his formidable reputation we expected the world and after traveling all the way from Manchester, we weren't going to settle for anything less.

Entering the restaurant we were overcome by a powerful aroma of food; 'By Jove!' we thought, 'we're in for a treat tonight!' The maitre dee took our coats and offered us each a complimentary drink. 4 Stellas later we were all feeling mighty peckish and were overjoyed when we were finally led to our table. Set in an alcove with a lovely view of London's bustling streets we felt right at home and couldn't wait to chow down. The starter was a tuna tartare with toasted pine nuts, chilli, Tashkin mint and Bloody Mary sorbet and I must admit, it was delicious. What made it all the more special was the service, the waiter's tip was in the bag from the word 'go'. For our mains we had the Mackerel tartare, pickled daikon, mackerel pâté and baby radishes.  Say what you like about Ramsay, when it comes to food he's top dog and this dish showed us exactly why; it really was mouth-watering stuff.
For afters we felt compelled to sample Ramsay's signature Arctic Roll and although we were all stuffed it didn't even touch the sides. I must confess, I threw it down so quickly I was sick into my hands. You've to hand it Ramsay when it comes to Arctic Roll; truly special stuff.
After a couple more lagers and with our stomachs lined with the finest food money can buy we were all well prepared for a night on the tiles on London's legendary social scene.
VERDICT 5/5: Top whack but equally top line stuff. Thumbs up!
Bottoms up!

We ate some wonderful food this week and made some great new discoveries! First up was The Malmaison Hotel on the piccadilly approach. The service was absolutely wonderful and the food top notch. The starter was prawn cocktail. The prawns were deliciously succulent and came in this tangy pink sauce that was absolutely out-of-this world! For our main we had a chicken dinner with all the trimmings! We were delighted when the chicken arrived at our table and had a mouth-watering glazed finish. There was a ride range of veg all of it reassuringly firm to the bite and melt-in-the mouth scrummy. Once we'd polished all that off we were all completely stuffed but once we'd seen the dessert menu we miraculously regained our appetites; they all looked so delicious! There was a spectacular array of sweets on offer, from luxuriant cream cakes to gooey fudge cakes but ultimately we all plumbed from the chocolate gateaux. We weren't disappointed; it was absolutely gorgeous! Thanks to to Malmaison for a wonderful evening!
CRITICAL ROUNDUP-
NAME: Malmaison Hotel
ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 "Simply decorated with warm lighting with relaxing background music at a pleasing volume"
VALUE: 4/5 "At just under 60 quid a head for a proper chicken dinner and 6 pints, the Malmaison Hotel offers a great dining experience at a competitive price."
SERVICE: 4/5 "The waiters were polite and had extensive knowledge of the food and drink on offer- a rare quality in today's catering industry."
FOOD: 4/5 "The chicken dinner is a British classic and these guys showed exactly why. The chicken delivered with every mouthful and the veg was perfectly cooked and seasoned: real melt-in-the-mouth stuff."
VERDICT: 4/5 "I think we'll be hearing a great deal more from this place in the very near future. If they can deliver this level of quality with consistency then these guys could be real contenders."

Current mood:literally buzzing with excitement
Category: Goals, Plans, Hopes
Excitement is at an all-time high ahead of the Kum Ba Yah Backed gig at the Bay Horse on the 16th of July at the Bay Horse. As the day draws closer, the people in the bars of the Northern Quarter are literally buzzing with excitment. And they're not alone; in a recent phone conversation, Lewis Calvert, vibe supervisor for First Time Flyer, said that he was "literally buzzing with excitement". It's a feeling echoed by the organist from Serpentine Pad who was reportedly "buzzing with excitement". And he's not alone there; the flautist from the little-known Floreats was recently spotted acting in a strange manner.
Greater Manchester Police are said to be on high alert in preparation for the deluge of rabid music fans expected to descend on Manchester's hip Northern Quarter on the day. "If anyone starts we will crush them into the ground. I hate all music apart from Razorlight, Coldplay...and Editors of course...I quite like some of the latter REM stuff as well...and U2's recent album is absolutely mind-bendingly weird but still totally fucking awesome... I never thought I'd get into it but then one day it just clicked. On a similar note, I must say I was impressed with the year's Glastonbury festival, it goes from strength to strength each year it really does...and the BBC's coverage was excellent; good on 'em! I like crushing people's heads in with my big, fuck-off boots" said a leading policeman.

Current mood:Cake
If you're anything like us, you'll have difficulty motivating yourself to do anything and while away the days with a finely honed arsenal of procrastination devices and reality-avoidance strategies... You should change your life and baking might be exactly what you need. At KBY we've found baking to be a really great way to start the day and the best thing is; anyone can do it. All you need is a load of flour, some eggs and, obviously, baking powder, sugar, salt and, if you desire, some kind of raising agent such as yeast. Then you just mix it all up in a bowl and divide the mixture into twelve roughly equal portions and stick it in the oven at gas mark 6 for about an hour. It's not rocket science for crying out loud. Whilst it's cooking you can take a nice long hit on your favourite bong and chill. Hey Presto, you've make cakes! Maybe give the cakes to your mum or put them in a bag for later. Scrummy cakes. Yummy cakes. Nice hot cakes. Get them while they're hot. Hot cakes. Nice Yummy cakes. Get 'em whilst they're nice and hot. Cakes? Where? Yum!

Kum Ba Yah Records got right into the Christmas spirit a few days ago with its third annual Xmas bash. The star-studded event, in its third year, is regarded as the place to be seen for anyone who is anyone in the music business.

People who weren't in attendence included the bands Razorlight, Editors and Athlete because they weren't invited.
David Cameron, the leader of the Conservative party, wasn't there either. But if he had come, I daresay he wouldn't have had a very nice time because everyone hates him and everything he stands for.

The party got off to an icy start, the introspective nature of many Kum Ba Yah acts not lending itself to interesting conversation. But after a few ecstacy tablets, the atmosphere was transformed and everyone started to have a nice time.
Revelling continued until long into the small hours, with a select few retiring to Kum Ba Yah HQ to chill out with a few lines of ket and some cans.

Proceedings were momentarily soured when Kum Ba Yah's work experience lad suffered a small stroke after drinking what is thought to be as many as a thousand pints of lager. But after regaining partial mobility he's keen to get right back on it: "I'd do it all again tomorrow. It'll take more than a stroke to keep me off the sauce. Rock n' Roll!" he said, in perfect summation of the Kum Ba Yah Records ethos.

Current mood:song

To commomorate what promises to be one of the best christmasses of the millenium, Kum Ba Yah records have produced a special christmas song...with an intreguing twist that will whip KBY competition fans into a festive frenzy of creativity.
With this competition Kum Ba Yah challenges contestants to set lyrics, written by a leading light from the KBY roster, to a musical accompaniment. Entries will be judged by the KBY staff and the winner will be entered into a mystery christmas prize draw that could see them win the opportunity to be entered into a mystery raffle that could win them a recording contract with KBY, pending the result of a prize draw.

The lyrics are as follows:

Verse 1

Yule log, yule log

You'll have a nice time at christmas time

You'll dance, you'll sing

Yule log, yule log

Chorus

Christmas, yeah yeah

Yeah yeah yeah

Come on baby, yeah

Verse 2

Santa's-a-coming

Gotta be a good kid

UV Rays, the band featuring former members of former KBY band Nursing Home have been signed by KBY. Other bands who are signed include Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight and, incredibly, Editors.

The band are said to be "pleased...very pleased....very pleased indeed".
Richard Entezari, the bass player, was being busy being signed in Big Hands or somewhere like that and so was unavailable for comment.

The news has been met with warmth from the signed community. Lars Ulrich, whose band Metallica is signed, said in his silly voice "Being signed is fucking awesome, I have the most fucking awesome time every day of my fucking awesome life. When me and James started the band in 1783 blah blah blah".

Even George Bush had some words of encouragement: "Although I was never signed per-se, I was president of America which is the next best thing, and dagnabbit if those weren't the best years of my life. Hoooooooooo-wee!!"

But bineg signed could perhaps prove something of a double-edged sword for the band. Lewis Calvert who sings some of their songs said "In getting signed we've achieved our ultimate goal...there doesn't seem much point writing any more songs now...unless you can get signed twice".

Current mood:food

Food, glorious food! Isn't food nice? But food can be expensive, especially now that the credit crunch has taken away all our money. So it's a good job that Kum Ba Yah Records have taken the time to prepare these nice recipes for credit crunch munch that you can eat for your lunch or even at brunch.

Isn't pasta nice? Yes, and it's also cheap which means that it's exactly the kind of food to be eating as we face financial Armageddon. Did you know that pasta is the favourite food of Italians? I'm sure our Italian friends don't need telling about of pasta, they're probably sick to death of it. I'm sick and tired of people moaning that they're skint all the time when if they would only eat some pasta they'd have more money to spend on beer. Everyone knows that vegetables are disgusting but if you cook them they can taste quite nice. All food can be enhanced by adding salt. If you've ever wondered why peanuts taste so nice, it's because they're covered with salt. Salt is good because it makes you thirsty so you drink more water which is good for you, unless you are a slug. But salt wasn't always as cheap as it is now, many years ago salt was considered a luxury which is why we say people are "worth their salt", but if you think about it, today it's actually an insult.
Biscuits can also provide a delicious and economical alternative to food. Brands such as 'Best In' are an example to us all, able as they to make delicious biscuits without the need for costly 'proper' ingredients. Why would anyone buy Walkers crisps for 45p when infinitely more exciting and delicious crisps (e.g. space raiders) are available for 10p? It is quite telling that Space Raiders don't even need to advertise their crisps-
even though they now foil wrapped. That's because they know that crisps are an intrinsically desirable product and will sell themselves. Advertising crisps is like trying to selling coal to ..:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Newcastle was many years ago because everybody already likes crisps and they don't care which brand they buy because they already like crisps. No one should need any kind of assistance in choosing which kind of crisps to buy because it's a really easy decision to make.

Instead of insulting our intelligence, why don't advertisers try assisting us in more difficult decisions such as the moral and ethical quandaries that beset us every day of our lives instead of wasting time with things like crisps? Like everything else, crisps are all essentially the same thing no matter what advertisers might have you believe.

Our American friends across the pond certainly have a big night ahead of them with their American election. It certainly has seemed like a long time coming but the climax is finally here.
One can only imagine all the excitement over in the Big Apple as people are finally allowed into their little booths to decide whether to vote for Obama or McClain. And whoever wins, I'm sure everyone will be happy with how well the election has turned out.
So I hope you will all join us in sending a big Kum Ba Yah Records Thank-you to all our American friends and wish them all the very best of luck for what promises to be one of the best American elections ever.
