Central Missouri Young Republicans Next Meeting

Monday, January 21st at 6:45 PM at Bone's Restaurant and Lounge in Jefferson City (201 Commercial Street) on the 2nd floor. Food and  beverages available for purchase.

Here's the unofficial agenda for the meeting (not in a set order):
1.    Take nominations for Treasurer of the group
2.    Form a committee to schedule speakers for upcoming meetings
3.    Set a monthly meeting schedule for 2008
4.    2008 MO Lincoln Days in Springfield report/announcement – Set for February 8 –10, 2008. The MO YRs will have a statewide meeting at this event, so I encourage all YR members to attend.
5.    Have presidential candidate supporters speak on behalf of their favorite candidate in an open forum. The MO primary will be Feb. 5, so this could be one of your last chances to persuade people to vote for your candidate of choice. You don't need to be officially with a campaign to speak up, but each candidate will get a total of 5 minutes, if needed. This means that if 10 Mitt Romney supporters show up, Romney is allotted 5 minutes total; not 5 minutes per Romney supporter (just using him as an example).

If you want to speak up on behalf of your favorite candidate, please e-mail me.

Jan. 28th will be the make-up date if the weather is bad on Jan. 21st. Please watch your e-mail on Monday. I realize that is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and some of you will not have access to your e-mail, so please visit www.centralmoyrs.com for an announcement. Just use common sense as well to determine if we have a meeting.

NEW INFO: If you plan to attend, please RSVP to me so that I can tell Bone's how many plan to attend.
ALSO, if you would like voice your opinion concerning a meeting schedule, but cannot due to a previous engagement, reply to this e-mail. Let me know what day of the week you would like, including weekend dates, and times. I would like more people to attend our meetings, and perhaps one way is to change the day of the week.

Thanks!

Mike Zweifel

Young Republicans,

Don't forget, our regular monthly meeting is tomorrow, 17 January at the Middendorf-Kredell branch of the St. Charles County Library.  We will be having our officer elections at this meeting.  Here are the offices availably and those who have so far expressed an interest in running for them:

President:  Matt Ehlen
Executive Vice President: Joshua Lewis
Vice President of Finance:
Executive Assistant: Shay Meinecke

At-large members (4):

But the nominations will be open until we officially close them before voting and all positions are open to members, so please consider becoming a member of the board if you are interested.

Our by-laws are attached.  They are slightly different than last year, so we will be voting on these as well at the meeting.

Also, if you haven't paid your 2008 dues, you can bring your $25 with you to the meeting.

See you tomorrow!

Friday, January 11, 2008

Young Republicans,

I wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year (yes, a little late!).  2007 was a good year for us and I look forward to 2008 with great anticipation.

If you've been on the fence regarding becoming a member, this is the year to do it!  This is shaping up to be a very busy year.  2008 is a Presidential election year.  Currently, the nominations are wide open and even when the nominees are chosen, the general election will prove to be hard fought.  And there will be other, numerous statewide and local elections this year.  And since Missouri is considered a bell weather state and St. Charles is the most Republican county in the state, we WILL be targeted heavily by candidates heavily.  Many candidates will be looking for help.  And remember, when opportunities come about and they are limited, priority will be based on membership and involvement, so I encourage you to get involved as soon as possible.

Already there are some good ways to get involved.  First are the Lincoln Days events.  The statewide Lincoln Days is Feb. 8-10 in Springfield this year.  It's an EXTREMELY large gathering of Republicans from all over the state and I can't encourage you enough to make it if possible.  Details and registration info are attached.  Rooms need to be reserved by January 15 but can be cancelled anytime up to 6 p.m. the day of arrival, so if you are HALFWAY considering going, you should make a reservation and just cancel if you end up not being able to attend.  And the St. Charles Lincoln Days will be on Feb. 29.  Details on that will be coming soon.

Also, there will be our local conventions and our statewide convention (in Branson) with probably several delegate positions available to Young Republicans.  These will be a great chance to become involved in the process of electing our delegates to the National Republican Convention in Minnesota.

More specific to the St. Charles Young Republicans, I'm excited about this next year.  First of all, starting in February, we will be meeting at a new location!  We will be meeting at Java G's coffee shop on Old 94 in St. Charles.  They've got a nice meeting room, good food and drinks and a little playroom right next to the meeting room to keep children entertained during the meeting.

But things will officially get kicked off at our January meeting.  We will meet on January 17 at 7:00 at the Middendorf-Kredell branch of the St. Charles County Library.  We will be having our officer elections at this meeting.  There are four offices available (President, Vice President, Treasurer & Executive Assistant) and four at-large positions on the Executive Board.  These positions are open to all members in good standing, so if you would like to run let me know and I can send out anything you'd like to the membership.

All members in good standing will be eligible to vote.  So if you haven't paid your 2008 dues, please bring them to the January meeting to ensure your participation.

Thanks and I'll see you at our next meeting!

The Central Missouri Food Bank is able to acquire 20 pounds of food for every $1.00 donated.  That's enough for approximately 15 meals. You can donate online at http://www.centralmofoodbank.org. Most grocery stores have something at their checkout to add a $1 to your bill that would go to the CMFB, so you can donate that way as well. This private organization does the Lord's work in helping needy families, so show them some support, whether financially or by volunteering at their location on Vandiver Drive in Columbia.

4. Young Republicans at Missouri Lincoln Days in February

The 2008 Missouri Lincoln Days is quickly approaching.  I will get more details to you as they become available, but please plan on attending this fun event being held in Springfield, MO February 8-10.  Registration will soon be available on www.molincolndays.com.  We will be having a statewide YR meeting on Saturday, February 9 around 10 AM.  At this meeting we will have speeches from our statewide officials, YR club Presidents will be giving a club update for their group, and I will brief everyone on the Missouri Republican Party State Convention and the caucuses that lead up to the event.
---------------------------------------
5. Missouri Republican Party State Convention and lead-up events

The Missouri Republican Party State Convention will be held in Branson Friday, May 30 - Sunday, June 1, 2008.  Information can be found at http://www.mogop.org/convention. In order to be a delegate to the State Convention, you must be nominated at your county's caucus on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 10 AM.  Please ask your county GOP chairman for specific details on how you and your members can become delegates. Your county's contact information can be found at http://www.mogop.org/committees/wpcommitteechooser.php?qt=cty

Boone County has 55 Delegates AND 55 Alternates that will be selected at the local Boone County Republican Caucus to attend the Missouri Republican State Convention and the same delegate allotment may attend the 9th Congressional District Convention.  A person may serve as both a delegate or alternate to the State Convention AND the 9th Congressional Convention (h/t Jane Stuart)

Delegates from Missouri to the Republican National Convention http://www.gopconvention.com/ being held in Minneapolis, Minnesota September 1-4, 2008 will be elected at congressional caucuses being held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 10 AM.  There are fewer delegate slots for the National Convention than the State Convention, but it will still be important to have YR representation at the April 19 Congressional caucuses, as we want to have as many YRs as possible attend the convention in Minnesota! I will try to get info for the 9th, 4th and 6th districts (that should cover central Missouri).
---------------------------------------
6. Iowa volunteer effort for Missouri YRs

The 2008 Presidential Election
is quickly approaching!!!

Are you interested in being in the midst of the action of one of our most important Presidential election cycles?  Volunteer for your favorite Presidential candidate in Iowa the weekend before the Iowa caucus!  If you are interested in helping out the weekend of Friday, December 28 – Sunday, December 30, contact Missouri YR State Chair Monica Durrwachter at monicadurrwachter@hotmail.com.  Gas reimbursement and lodging expenses are available to Missouri YR members who are interested in helping out on this important weekend!

Since 1979, no other organization has prepared as many students with the nuts-and-bolts techniques necessary to be effective youth leaders as the Leadership Institute. The Institute was founded in 1979 by Morton Blackwell to train the next generation of conservative leaders; to date over 50,700 conservatives have been trained.

Notable graduates include:
Karl Rove, Senior Political Strategist for President George W. Bush
• United States Senator Mitch McConnell, Kentucky
• Dr. Ralph Reed, Former Executive Director, Christian Coalition

If you're serious about being an effective leader, the YLS will help you:
• Launch a successful career in politics
• Get Out The Vote for your candidate
• Build an effective student organization
• Use the media to get your message out

Topics include the true nature of politics, effective media techniques, how to build your organization, how to hold an effective speaking event, plus lots of event ideas.

For only $30, the Leadership Institute will provide meals, course materials, and lodging for those who are traveling far from home to attend. SPECIAL: If you sign up before January 1, it's only $20!

This training is for those who LOVE their conservative cause enough to want to learn how to WIN for it.

If you have any questions, please contact Kent Strang, Director of the Youth Leadership School, at (703) 247-2000 ext 383 or e-mail kstrang@limail.us. To register, sign up online at https://www.leadershipinstitute.org/training/?PageID=Register&schoolID=12842&PCN=62825464

Young Republicans,

Well, the year is almost over.  And it's been an exciting one, with many good speakers and events.  As we look forward to next year, I would like to find out what you think could make us a better organization.  So if you could take just a few minutes to go to the link below and fill out the survey, it would really help me in that.  So, for those of you that have been coming to our meetings, think about what would make it better.  And for those of you who have not been able to make it to any, what sort of things would encourage you to become a more active participant in the St. Charles Young Republicans.  Here is the link:
