Ok....no joke....GC is getting back together...for at least 3 shows! Ben, Alan, Wally and Myself will be crushing skulls again this August in Texas. Go to MontyColvin.com and listen to my podcast..MONTY'S ROCKCAST....I give details and tell just what the deal is.

It's Saturday and time for a new episode of my podcast, MONTY'S ROCKCAST. In this one I cover the Feel The Rage EP from Galactic Cowboys in 1996. Hopefully you are beginning to get the idea...I'm putting up a new show about once a week. So to avoid having to make an announcement every week, let me just make it easy for everyone!
If you are A) a person who only cares about what I say when I talk about Galactic Cowboys, you can tune in every OTHER week. I have been doing episodes dedicated to each GC cd and they go up about every 2 weeks.
If you are B) a person enjoys expanding your musical horizons, hearing great music, and having a laugh at the same time, I do other shows where I talk about some of my favorite bands, songs, concerts...and answer listener emails and give stuff away.
If you are C) a person who needs help with home auto repair...well, that would be a different podcast all together, because I know nothing about that stuff.
ROCK ON!!

Just put the latest podcast up on my website...and it's all about bass. Bass tones, basses I use, bass amps....and I talk about some of my favorite bass players and influences over the years. And the best thing...It's ALL FREE!

I won't get political this time. But thanks to everyone who weighed in on my last blog. I appreciate all the comments. This time I just wanted to let everyone know that the latest episode of my podcast is up on my website www.MontyColvin.com. If you haven't heard any of the shows yet, some of you Galactic Cowboys fans might be interested in this one. I go track by track through the Space In Your Face album and give my audio comments about each song and tell a few stories that surrounded that cd. I talk about how the songs were written...explain some of the lyrics...give a little info about my bass sound...and MOST importantly, I will answer the most frequently asked GC question of all-time, "Was the phone conversation at the end of Where Are You Now real?"
 OK! Rock On!

Don't hate me if you are an Obama loving Democrat. I have some really good friends who are mislead Liberals. (Just kidding...kind of.) I've never wanted to speak out much when it comes to politics. I like to leave that to the Hollywood blow-hards. But when it comes to the media, you will only get one point of view for the most part. The major TV networks and newspapers have basically gone on an Elect Obama love-fest for the past year or 2 here in the States, while entertainment shows like Saturday Night Live do their best to make comic book clowns out of the Republican candidates.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm not crazy about John McCain. And I don't know much about Sarah Palin either....well...other than she's kind of a hottie. (Just kidding...kind of...no I'm not kidding at all.) But I will be voting for them come Nov. I have no choice. Barack scares me, if I'm honest..and it has nothing to do with the color of his skin....so don't try playing that lame race card. All I have to do is do a little research to know that he's not the person I would like working for me...which is what the Government is supposed to do. They aren't suppose to run our lives or be our parents...or our Saviours. They are supposed to be public servants...not freaking celebrity rock stars.
Yeah...Obama sounds really smart when he has a teleprompter in front of him. He offers "change"! Well...if "change" is what you want, CHANGE is what you will get with Obama. But you won't hear about his socialist agendas from Katie Couric. All you will hear from CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and ABC is how awesome Obama is, while never telling you what he has ever done. Why is he suddenly the "saviour"? Does anyone know?
I don't REALLY care who anyone votes for...but I do hope everyone will at least do their own research into who these people are, and not let the media decide things for us. There's a reason why P. Diddy and those scumbags at MTV want 18 year old idiots who watch The Hills to "Rock The Vote!" Once you get fed a steady diet of propaganda you eventually buy into it.
Bottom line...do what you want. Thank God we are still free here in the States and we get to have a say about such matters. I suppose they are ALL politicians and we can't really trust ANY of them, but I would hate to see the people of the United States elect an Emperor because of his clothes...only to find out he is naked.

Just wanted to let all my friends know that my website (www.montycolvin.com) has been totally worked over and is up and rocking. There are lots of photos...including photo galleries with some rare Galactic Cowboys and Awful Truth pictures. Also, there's lots of my art from over the years to view and for sale..(including CD artwork from GC and Crunchy.)
One of the new features for the site is my blog section...where I will be spilling my guts about life, music, and whatever else I can think of.
AND...I have started doing my own podcast called MONTY'S ROCKCAST. You can listen to them right on the website, OR hit "subscribe" and each episode will download right into your Itunes. The first 2 shows are up right now, and in episode two I go track by track through the first GC album and give some background on how each song came about and tell a couple stories from back in the day.

No...It's not what you're thinking...but it twas a cool night to remember.
A couple weeks ago I was in Houston and King's X happened to be playing. I hadn't seen those guys in years...and though they didn't go on until after midnight, it was a great time. It was also the first time the 4 members of Galactic Cowboys had been in the same room in about 9 or 10 years. After the show, we all hung out together and it was just great to see everyone again.
So, there you have it. People have been asking me about a GC reunion for years...and we DID get back together for the one night. Well...2 nights actually. We went out for Mexican food the following night. Cool thing is...we didn't even talk about music. We just hung out as friends. And for me, that was enough. Ben, Wally and Alan will always be my friends...as will Dug, Ty and Jerry.
I would be open to a "musical reunion" someday. I'm not saying it will happen..but it is something that might be fun. After the King's X show, Dug got out his camera..."And now I've got me a favorite picture!" (Check it out in my photos.)

Has anyone else been watching the Olympics the past 2 weeks? For some reason, I can't seem to take my eyes off of it this time. I usually skip the opening ceremonies, but even that was completely amazing. Seriously...If you didn't see that, try to find it on Youtube or something. Just amazing stuff by the people of China.
I'm a sports junkie in general, but a lot of the events have really sucked me in. This Insane Bolt guy from Jamaica left me shaking my head as he effortlessly made all the other sprinters look like they were standing still. Ya had to love our women gymnasts, and ya gotta love Michael Phelps. But I also found myself watching stuff like canoe racing...and I'm still wondering why I couldn't make myself leave the couch during the synchronized swimming.
For the most part, I am totally rooting for anyone in a U.S.A. uniform. But I keep wondering if I am the only American who can't quite bring himself to cheer for the U.S. Basketball team? It will always be hard for me to like Koby Bryant in any way, and I've actually found myself hoping the other team will at least give them a scare. What does it really prove anyway? That a team of N.B.A. All-stars can beat a bunch of N.B.A. backup players from other countries? Just give me some people who have spent the last 12 years of their lives playing ping pong in there basement! Now THAT is some amateur competition!
I did manage to leave my TV long enough yesterday to do some yard work. And let me just say this....If I ever move, I never want to have a yard again! I don't want any trees in that yard, because then I have to pick up leaves and limbs. Which then have to be hauled off somewhere. I don't like bushes...or mowing grass...or pulling weeds. Just give me a concrete slab and I'll be fine.
OK..I gotta go watch some water polo!

A few months ago, I discovered the wonderful world of podcasts. I started listening to all these cool shows I could download off Itunes for free, and now I'm hooked. I've even had some of my Crunchy tunes played on a few of them...Like, The Rock-n-Roll Geek Show, and The Albino Leperboy Show with Stephen Hines....(both great shows that play cool stuff you don't usually hear on the radio.) Other favorites are Talking Metal, The Reality TV Podcast, and The Adam Carolla Radio Show. But right at the top of the list is the Shockwaves Skull Sessions Podcast, hosted by Bob Nalbandina. Bob knows all things hard rock and metal. There isn't a band in the world he hasn't heard of. (He's even got the word "band" in his name!) He is such a man of rock-n-roll knowledge, that he even knew who Galactic Cowboys were when I wrote him the first time to tell him what a great show he had.
OK... all that to say...Bob was cool enough to ask me to be apart of a current episode of Skull Sessions in which Dug Pinnick and myself discuss the Texas Metal scene over the years. Dug talks about King's X, and I share some stories about the early days of seeing and hanging out with Pantera. I also get to plug my solo stuff a bit, which is always cool!
So...Go to Itunes at once, and download the show...and while you are at it, just subscribe to the podcast, cause all the episodes are really good...Especially if you are into older metal stuff like Kiss, Metallica, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Slayer, etc. You can find Bob's myspace site on my top friends list, and there are links on there to all his shows.
One last thing...All this has inspired me to do my OWN podcast. So, coming soon...podcasts where I will be talking about Crunchy, Galactic Cowboys, Awful Truth, and rock in general. If you have any questions or topics you'd like to hear discussed, drop me an email and I will be glad to make those apart of future shows. Stay tuned!

Sometimes my life has felt like I was living in a John Hughes movie. There are parts of it that have felt like Plains, Trains, and Automobiles, where nothing goes right...While at other times my life has been like getting locked inside of a Target with Jennifer Connelly...where you just say, "No..that doesn't REALLY happen to people." Getting signed to Geffen... touring with Anthrax...being on MTV...were all strange, dream-like experiences. Another weird fact about me that leaves me scratching my head, is that my Dad's brother had a son named, Doug Colvin...but better known as Dee Dee Ramone.
When I was younger, I would see pictures of my cousin Dee Dee in rock magazines. I eventually got to meet him, and grew to be a huge Ramones fan myself. He died of an overdose in 2002, just months after being inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. If you have Showtime, check out the documentary, End Of the Century..The Story Of The Ramones. It's a great insight to one of the most influential bands in history. Without the Ramones, there wouldn't have been Green Day. They inspired bands like U2 to pick an instrument and try. Without the Ramones, I wouldn't have written songs like Media Slant, T.I.M, Missile Silo, Let's Go, or Psycho Ex.
I know the whole punk rock thing isn't for everybody, but to me, the Ramones were at times as heavy as Motorhead and ALWAYS as cool as a rock band can possibly be. Though I think the drugs and lifestyle kind of wrecked Dee Dee's brain, I will always be inspired by his writing and the energy he had on stage.
Ok...that's all I've got today. Have a good weekend!
