Hey folks,
On the wind broken stones front, we had our second recording session for the new songs this past weekend and spent most of the time concentrating on 4 songs. This was a better approach for us. We have so many new songs in the mix that the first day of recording seemed a little directionless... like every small thing was sort of insignificant to the overall process. Now we feel like we have taken a huge bite out of 4 songs which gives us some momentum heading into the next session.
As for the solo stuff, I've been feeling pretty creative on the writing front and have a couple of brand new things that I think have some potential. I'm playing in London this Thursday night at the London Music Club with Sean McCready and Brent Jones. It has been fun to switch back and forth between the band thing and singer/songwriter thing over the past couple of months. Its so good to be busy with music....
More soon. Jarod

Hey folks,
Thanks to everyone for the great support last weekend. I had an amazing time with the wind broken stones in London and Toronto. It was a lot of fun to be part of a higher energy show and playing with a group is way different than playing alone. We are already talking about more dates in the near future and have started talking about who would be a good fit to play percussion with us.
We're finally ready to start recording and the three of us are really excited to give some serious attention to the new songs. We want them to be as full and high energy as we can make them and the goal is to push a couple of the songs hard with videos and radio. The album will follow but we think that a strong single is the best thing to keep the momentum going right now.
As for my solo stuff, thanks for the encouragement to not drop that entirely while I work on this new project. I'm still writing songs all the time that will probably end up on my solo record and I'll be playing solo a couple more times in Southern Ontario before Christmas.
I'm going to try to be a bit more consistent about updating as we go through the recording process and we will have pictures and songs up on the wind broken stones pages in the next couple of weeks.
Lots of exciting stuff happening!

Hey folks,
This is going to be a big weekend for the wind broken stones. We have been working hard on the new songs and the arrangements of some of the old songs and are excited to get on stage. Chelsea Wright's violin playing has given us a fresh instrument to write songs around and it has been great for J and I to have a new set of ears and ideas to help make the songs better.
We're playing London on Friday, Nov 6th and Toronto on Saturday, Nov 7th. Both shows are being opened by Julia Bentley and both are 9pm starts.
Hope to see everyone this weekend!
Jarod

Hey folks, So much has happened since I last wrote, its hard to know where to start. Getting ready to play a couple of shows with "wind broken stones" in London and Toronto next month (Nov 6 and 7) and then heading directly to the studio to begin recording the new songs with full band treatment. The next couple of weekends are all about rehearsing and putting the setlists together for those shows. I have a bunch of songs with the solo vibe in my back pocket for later but these days I'm having fun playing bigger songs with fun choruses that I can sing loud. (definitely still going to do a couple of solo acoustic tunes at the November shows). So excited to get to work on this with J and Dustin and to make it the best it can be. Also really stoked to share the next 2 shows with Julia Bentley who is pretty tremendous www.myspace.com/jchbentley or http://www.canadianplease.ca/ for a video of one of her tunes called Canadian Please. More to come.....

I've been keeping a pretty low profile these past couple of months. It was a necessary decision after a pretty exhausting winter and spring when life/work/music seemed to throw a lot more curves than normal. I was really craving some downtime to begin re-evaluating some priorities and get my head back in the game.
Last weekend, I was on stage for the first time in 6 weeks to take part in a songwriter's competition in Waterloo, ON at Maxwell's Music House. Its a really great club to play and I had fun both playing and hearing the other artists perform their songs. I immediately went home and began booking dates for the Fall. I'm thinking October/November will be the best time to get back on stage doing what I love to do.
In the meantime, I'm trying to keep my guitar in hand as many hours a day as possible and have been working hard on new songs. Over the next month, I'm going to be doing some traveling with friends and then going to visit my family for some much needed home-cooking/ relaxing. I'm kicking around the idea of posting some of the rough versions of my new songs but the control freak part of me doesn't want to post things that don't sound professional. We shall see how that resolves itself.

Hey folks,
This past year has been incredible. Aside from writing an album that I'm proud of, I've had a chance to play about 20 shows to great crowds of people who have been supportive and encouraging at all times. Lately, I've been feeling a bit worn down and ready for the next chapter of this adventure story.
I've really been starting to mix some of my new songs into my live sets as often as possible and I know that means its time to get back to work in a serious way on my next album. I have 12-15 song ideas. Some exist only as slips of paper on my table with rings on them where they've been used by coffee mugs and/or beer bottles.
I had a good chat with my friend, Dustin Jones lately about the idea that when I started playing music, I thought that being a musician meant being a good songwriter. Then as the last year has gone on, I've started to feel like being a musician means being a person who can sing songs to people from their guts. Right now I'm thinking that its probably a mix of the two.... and probably some other stuff that I haven't learned yet.
Anyway, as much as I've come to love the excitement of a live audience, alas.... 'tis time to step away from the lights and get back to creating songs with pen and paper. I said in my last show that come the Fall, I'll be back with a vengeance and I meant it. I can't wait to get back on stage with something new and exciting to share with people.
Till then, I'm going to get back to writing and seeing shows like I used to..... Much more to come....
Ex- camp counsellors like myself have a saying that seems to work here.
"I'm better off for the knowing of you"
Much Love - see you soon!

Hey folks, Happy Spring! The past couple of weeks have been exciting for me with shows in Toronto at C'est What and at the London Music Club. The Toronto show was the second of 2 Toronto shows that I played with Jason Moir accompanying and the London show was back to my roots as a solo singer-songwriter. Next up is a Toronto show at Free Times Cafe on Saturday, April 25th. Its being billed as "An Evening by the Campfire" and I'm planning an equal mixture of originals and classic campfire tunes. It should be a fun night to order a couple of pitchers with friends and sing along. Before long, we'll be able to enjoy the outdoors but this should help to shake off the cabin fever of a long winter and get ready for a summer filled with beaches, camping and good times. Jason Moir will be making his solo debut at 9pm in this show. Feel free to dress in campfire clothing for this show and get in the spirit! If you have any requests for covers or originals email them to me at jarod@jarodparlee.com and I'll try to brush up on them before the show! Hope to see you there! Jarod

Hey folks, Thanks for your continuing support early in 2009. The year is off to a flying start and I already have 3 shows under my belt this month. Most recently was a show at Free Times Cafe in Toronto with Jane Carmichael. Jane's band opened the show and did a terrific "unplugged" set that was very well-rehearsed and set the stage for a great night. We're planning a second show in London in the near future that should be a lot of fun as well.
As for me, I was thrilled to have Jay Moir join me on stage to chip in some excellent bass and lead guitar pieces (on an acoustic no less!). He also sang a couple of his own songs during the set which was one of my favourite parts of the night. If all goes according to plan, he will be joining me on stage a lot more often in the future. I think I'll always do solo shows once in awhile because thats something special for me but I loved sharing the stage with an old friend who could add so much to my songs.
Speaking of EXCITING NEWS! We are confirmed to play C'est What in Toronto on Thursday, March 12th with support from Toronto native Alistair Bundale. This is a really exciting show for Jay and I as C'est What is a larger venue with a truly amazing history of performers. We'd very much appreciate the support of anyone in the Toronto area who can make it to a Thursday night show. More on that in the near future!
Hope all is well - keep the emails coming and its great when people say hi at the shows - so keep doing that too! Jarod

Hey folks, I hope that 2009 is off to a good start on your end. I'm feeling good about the final days of 2008 and really enjoyed playing in front of a supportive home crowd in Rothesay last week. It was a special night and I was happy to try a couple of new songs at the show. The next couple of weeks are busy on the music front. I'm playing an opening set at the London Music Club this Friday night (Jan. 9th) for Aaron Garner and Patrick Ballantyne. I'd love to see some familiar faces at that show but if you're planning on coming out, an FYI that I'll be playing earlier than normal 8:30 - 9:15 pm. The other 2 artists are really strong singer/songwriters so I'm sure you'll hear something great regardless of when you arrive in the evening. After that, I'm looking forward to getting back to Toronto next Saturday night (Jan. 17th) for a return visit to The Free Times Cafe. Jane Carmichael is opening that show at around 9pm and I'm very excited to hear her set after a great performance in London in December. Jason Moir will be joining me on stage for a few songs that night as well so it should be a special night all around. I've started some very preliminary recordings on the new batch of songs and I'm really stoked about how they are sounding. In all likelihood, we won't go back to truly record until next Fall but this early work is all part of the process. I am working on playing in a couple of new cities in Feb-March and we are hard at work planning an extensive tour of the East Coast this summer! More to come! Jarod

Hey folks, Great news on the music front over the past few days! First of all, thanks to everyone who came out to the London show on Friday. You guys were huge in number and louder than a crowd twice your size! Thanks for helping to make it a special night... AND. We would like to announce an upcoming show in Rothesay, NB! Anyone who has been with us over the past year knows that this has been a huge priority but for various reasons of timing, it has been really difficult to book a show in the Kennebecasis Valley at a time when I could be there. I'll be playing at the Shadow Lawn Inn on Monday, December 29th in the evening. It means a lot to me to be able to play a show in front of the home crowd that has been so supportive over the past year. The night will be even better because my close friend Jake Stewart of Blackville has signed on to kick the show off. Jake is a tremendous entertainer and always puts everything he has into every show he plays. In other news, I'll be heading to the East Coast in 3 weeks for some family time but there are exciting things happening in Ontario for early in the new year as well. I'll be back at the Free Times Cafe in Toronto on January 17th. Playing in that city is always exciting and I'll write a lot more about that show as we get a little closer to the date. In the meantime, I wish all of you the best for happy holiday season with family and friends..... see you soon! Jarod
