After singing high praises to Minneapolis for their great Soundset 08, I am now singing a new tune, or three, all of them by the Beastie Boys. Last Sunday I was privy to the hottest, freshest, most happenin' hip hop show I have ever seen. That DJ made my day.

I received my first exposure to the Beasties in the mid 90's (yes I was a little slow to catch on) with License to Ill. My best friend Eric and I would listen to Paul Revere every day on the way to school. Fastforward to last Sunday and I got my first live glimpse of the band that can do no wrong.

I had seen Mix Master Mike a few years back at Summerfest and he blew my mind. Cutting up rock songs and beats like I'd never seen. The crowd erupted when he threw in Rage Against the Machine, not typical turntable material. Arriving at The US Cellular Center, I wasn't even aware that he fully tours with the Beasties (shows you what I know). Next he came out and started cutting up Rush and I thought the ceiling was going to blow off. A lot of Hip Hop shows I've seen have had major issues with sound, but not tonight, as a seasoned veteran came out and showed us how it's done. The three MCs came out and put on a stellar performance with the energy of teenagers. Thoroughly the best Hip Hop Show I've ever seen.

As openers, the Beasties had a top notch bill. Ben Harper came out with that slide in his lap and he got on down for two solid songs. He has a technique with that thing that is absolutely unbelievable. It was one flash of goosebumps after another. Then he reverted to his electric guitar and began played some really fluffy stuff and I tried to stop myself from throwing up. From all of us, Ben, it's slide or bust.

Tenacious D was friggin hilarious. It's great when you see an act of two comedians using music basically as a prop, and they blow your acoustic duo out of the water. Yes I said it.

David Crosby and Graham Nash never grew up. They are officially Rock and Roll Royalty and they do what they do. Play from the heart and charm the audience.

Overall the Get Out and Vote show was probably the best evening of music I've seen in Milwaukee. Considering everything you hear at the Rave or Eagles Ballroom sounds like crap because of the house speakers, and most local clubs can't afford a decent tech, that isn't really saying much. All I can say, though, is if you have a chance to see the Beasties and/or Mix Master Mike, you better take it.

Now go vote! That's the reason the show came here in the first place!

Hi there!

What a wonderful weekend.  I played a kick ass show with Highway 414 in Marshfield Saturday and then stopped through Green Bay to see a schlacking of the Colts.  Great way to go into the bye week.  Here's a nice AP article on the win.

Hola!

It was a boring game last night, man do the Redskins look terrible, but I am ecstatic that it is finally football season.  I watch the Brewers, I watch the Bucks, but to me nothing is more satisfying than sitting on my couch for 12 hours on Sunday and watching all the games on my dish.

It's a bummer we lost Favre due to what I call "irreconcilable differences," but I'll still be watching him as the Jets take on Miami at noon.  Not only do I have Favre on my fantasy roster, but I also have fellow Jets Laverneous Coles and Thomas Jones, who now runs behind all pro Tony Richardson.

Anyone have an extra ticket for Monday's game?  I'll pay face! ha ha.  It should be interesting to see if Barnett can chase down Adrian Peterson.  Keeping Jared Allen off Rogers will also be key.  Could the winner Monday win the division?

peace I'm out

Well, it's really all been said, but I feel the need to pipe up on this one.

It's Ted Thompson's fault.

Ok, ok, I know he retired and then said he thought about coming back, and then he said no I don't want to come back, and then he said I want to come back.  And it kinda sounds like the same question you'd ask yourself about a girl that dumped you and now she wants to come back.  Do you take her back and reminisce about the good ol' days?  Or do you say no on principle because it is too much of an emotional rollercoaster?

The first question I would ask is why did he decide to retire so fast in the first place?

It is my opinion that Favre was sick enough about getting asked everyday if he is going to retire or not, that he just said "I'm retired" to get everyone off his back.

I don't care what plans you made, or how you invested your money, your team is still better with Brett Favre.  Period.  We've seen first hand how the Bears and Vikings struggle without a quarterback.  When you can get a guy that hasn't missed a game since '92, you take him!

Open competition?  What an insult.

But hey, maybe Rogers is the next Steve Young.
