Finally, our two-song 7" record is available. Here's the story of how this thing came to be... We were asked to record some songs for a split by another label when we were "between" drummers. We didn't want to waste any time, so we enlisted the help of hessian hero, Erik Larson (Parasytic, Birds of Prey, HailHornet, ATP, etc.) to help us finish up the songs and play the drums on the recording. Well, the split never happened and that label folded. We convinced an angel named Tim to put out 2 of the 3 songs we recorded on a 7" record for us. The records show up in the mail and all five-fucking-hundred have the wrong center labels on them. The plant corrects their mistake and sends 500 more, this time with the correct labels. If you're a vinyl nerd, this is how it breaks down:

400 mis-labeled records on black vinyl, 100 mis-labeled on blue.

400 correctly labeled records on black vinyl, 100 on blue with hand-screened jackets.

If you want to order one of these, go to the FORCEFIELD RECORDS store. Here's a link: http://www.forcefieldrecords.org/store/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=95

It should also be available in other distro's online and locally at Plan 9 and Vinyl Conflict within the next couple weeks. We will also have them for sale with us at upcoming shows.
REVIEWS:
"So back in 2005, there was this band called “Sword” and they released an album called Lord by Fire. Around the same time, there was this other band called “The Sword” and, well, you probably know the rest. The non definitive article Sword, left in the wake of an impressively improbable wave of hype, rechristened themselves “Lord by Fire” and then went about not doing anything.
Actually, that’s not entirely accurate. They lost a drummer, borrowed an Erik Larson, and recorded three songs for a split that was to be released by a label that decided folding was easier. That’s a shitty run of dumb fuck luck, but since two of the tracks are finally seeing the light of day on this self titled 7”, things may be turning around for Lord by Fire. I’d like to hope so, as “Three Sisters of the Wolves” and “Tribes of the Unnamed Beast” both serve as a dope-slap reminder of how good Sword‘s - er, Lord by Fire’s - Lord by Fire was. The band’s still got a knack for coupling murky riffs and swampy grooves with technical precision - see side A for a quick ‘n’ dirty example and side B for a more progressive take on skull crushing. If anything, this 7” makes a pretty convincing example that the wrong Sword got a free ride on the gravy train." - Stonerrock.com

“From right here in Richmond, VA and formerly known as simply Sword (whose sole release was titled "Lord by Fire"), Lord by Fire's debut under their new name is this self-titled 7" on Forcefield Records, so… as far as I know, this actually marks the band's first recorded output since the summer of 2005!? With just two tracks in 10 minutes it's over all too soon, but the band's approach to dark, dingy, "doomy" rock/metal remains intact with the added bonus of an absolutely awesome recording that's loaded with warm, natural tones and plenty of crisp breathing room that allows all of the subtle intricacies of the elements' textures to shine through perfectly. Expect hoarse, strained shouts over an assortment of pounding midpaced power chords; choppy, chugging rhythms; sludgy, textured grooves; and occasional layers of searing feedback. It's neither too rocked out nor too overly aggressive and in your face, and that balance works out quite nicely for the end result. Hopefully some more material is on the way sooner than later!" - Aversionline.com

"Ffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkk. When I got the note that came with this saying it featured members of FACADE BURNED BLACK, I got really, really excited. I was not disappointed. This is absolutely soul-crushing old-school doom in the stony vein of WARHORSE, CAVITY, or Holy Mountain-era SLEEP. The vocal style is more heavily influenced by crust than by BLACK SABBATH, but the bass is heavier than lead, the drums pummel and pulverize, and the guitar just wails. Anyone who listens to DYSTOPIA, SOURVEIN, or BUZZOV*EN needs to buy this now." - Maximum RockNRoll
The wait is over for new material from sludge-metal warriors Lord by Fire. Two songs have been released as a 7-inch on local label Forcefield Records, both featuring the last-minute beats of temporary drummer Erik Larson (Parasytic, and others). - Style Weekly

Hey, we were featured on some site based out of Austin. Some weird contest thing, I don't know. Anyhow, check it out. It's the end part of one of our new tunes and "Radula" in its entirety. If anyone else out there has photos/video of us from Emissions, or any of our other tour dates, let us know! We'd love to see them.

Hello everyone, we have changed our name to Lord by Fire. We did this to avoid confusion with other bands that have similar names. We hope that everyone understands and continues to support us. Thank you.

Current mood:  blah
HEY KIDS READ THIS Sword "Lord of Fire" CD [We Are the Label] Hell yeah! Six tracks of pummeling sludge in a well focused 33 minutes, featuring members of My War, the Goddamn Wolves, and Façade Burned Black. Not as rocked out as their Richmond, VA citymates in Alabama Thunderpussy; not as oppressively dark as classic Neurosis; cleaner, tighter, and more controlled than Eyehategod - yet comparable elements to all three acts are involved, and the end result could (and should) very well appeal to all such listeners. Slow to midpaced southern tinged rhythmic grooves? Check. Hoarsely shouted/screamed vocals? You betcha. Just the right balance of grimy rock underpinnings and aggressive, rumbling density? Fuck yes! It's all here, and then some. "Radula" opens briefly with cello before introducing the record with one of the more droning and sinister passages herein, granted that within a minute things start building into the churning swagger most representative of this work. "Ride With Thunder and Love" is a little more in your face and hits on a couple of hardcore/punk sounding influences (which are of course prevalent throughout, but more so in theory rather than practice), so perhaps it's no surprise that this one's not ashamed to rock as well? Either way, it kills. "Electrogod" drops back to softly spoken vocals midway through before building back in and quickly sinking into a pulsing bass run with some tripped out watery clean guitars - and just when you think that might be the end, thus return the massive power chords and intense shouts/screams! Despite what its title might suggest, the longer "Flight of the Omega (Icarus: And the End of the World)" is actually among the more consistent and straightforward tracks in terms of overall flow, perhaps more concerned with really pounding things home; whereas six-and-a-half minute closer "Children of Ghede" immediately launches in with an atypically energetic set of chords and chunky picking patterns before seamlessly winding its way into a more open and subtly melodic passage that gives the percussion more breathing room, while the guitars kind of bounce back and forth off of one another before everything thunders back together and closes with the same quaint cello that opened the disc. Nice. The recording is really fucking good, too. I wouldn't mind hearing a hint more heaviness in the future, but they've achieved an excellent sense of clarity here, so I can certainly hang with things as they are. The drums sound fucking awesome - totally natural and resonant, the bass is barely dingy and thickens things up perfectly, the vocals are right in there against the instruments, and the guitars are thick and gritty without overpowering anything or losing their texture in any way (admittedly a positive trait resulting from the fact that they did make sure to keep the heaviness factor in check). As a whole it's really crisp, and I'm all for that. Also excellent is the gorgeous layout, which uses a restrained color scheme and consistent imagery with ultra tiny and compact text for a damn nice aesthetic that works perfectly with the music. Had they printed everything on matte brown paper rather than using a faux textured paper effect within the images themselves it would've been even more amazing, but fuck it, 'cause this shit looks awesome. The lyrics are a pretty interesting blend of twisted traces of rock 'n' roll with a more menacing and abstract approach befitting of the music. So one minute it's, "Yeah, baby I write to you this last love song. I write it with this pen I call a broken heart…" And later it's, "Running through the thick fog and wet grounds. Know that there is a killing chill lurking, ready to strike at my throat, as my feet are tripped up on broken headstones…" I believe this is the first material the band's ever recorded, in which case such an impressive debut should only lead to a darker and more daunting future - which, in this case, is damn sure a good thing! Nicely done, and trust me, if the above description stirs your curiosity, look into this one… you won't be disappointed. Hopefully it won't be long before these cats start making more of a name for themselves out there. Good stuff.
