In a land far away called Baltimore, there lives a prince called Matt Perzinski. Besides his own musical adventures as part of The Agrarians, he regularly collaborates with other wizards of weirdness with the alternate warped mind this time being Dave Gibson (of Bad Liquor Pond). The alias in use this time is The New Mystical Troubadours.

Oddly enough, the end result is rather more approachable than Mr Perzinski's other work. The time warp thing is still prevalent only this time we are only taken back as far as the hippy trippy sixties. There's even vaguely eastern influences on show, especially in "Baccanalia". To try and give some sort of comparison, think of George Harrison in his experimental years. It was also pleasing to note that the sound quality of these recordings was actually quite decent this time. Much as you might expect, the best way to experience these songs is on headphones late at night when you are not quite connected to reality.

As expected really, this is a musical journey where no one really knows where they are going but it is also a journey that I was glad to take with the New Mystikal Troubadours.

Dave Gibson (of Bad Liquor Pond) and I have recorded a collaborative EP under the moniker THE NEW MYSTIKAL TROUBADOURS.

The EP is out now and available from MT6 Records: www.mt6records.com.

The NMT MySpace page gives more details regarding the project:

The following is a write-up on this year's MT6-Fest by City Paper's Ray Cummings:

(The quote attributed to Matt Perzinski in the print version of the aforementioned article came, in fact, from Pat Grant; I, however, do not wholly disagree with the sentiment expressed by Mr. Grant.)

A.L.W. Perzinski's video for Thee Knaves' "Other Perils":

Thee Knaves are pleased to announce that they have completed their sophomore album to be released -- most likely -- via Well-Dressed Records (www.welldressedrecords.com) during either the Late Fall of 2009 or the Early Winter of 2010.  The album is entitled THE KNAVES "AND THE SACRED GEOMETRY PLAYERS" and features 13 brand-new tunes from Anderson & Williamson Knave.  A 5-song EP will also be released at some pointe following the album's release (though We know not when nor via whom it may come).

"It is almost as safe to assume that an artist of any dignity is against his country, i.e., against the environment in which God hath placed him, as it is to assume that his country is against the artist.  The special quality which makes an artist of him might almost be defined, indeed, as an extraordinary capacity for irritation, a pathological sensitiveness to environmental pricks and stings.  He differs from the rest of us mainly because he reacts sharply and in an uncommon manner to phenomena which leave the rest of us unmoved, or, at most, merely annoy us vaguely.  He is, in brief, a more delicate fellow than we are, and hence less fitted to prosper and enjoy himself under the conditions of life which he and we must face alike.  Therefore, he takes to artistic endeavor, which is at once a criticism of life and an attempt to escape from life."

Reviving the sloppy, lo-fi real-indie aesthetic of the Undergraduate Years, We present Our set from Friday, June 12th's show at Joe Squared in Baltimore:

http://www.archive.org/details/agrarians2009-06-12.flac

Our thanks to Krestovsky (The Amazing) who graciously sat in for A. Lady, and -- having never practiced these tunes -- did a wonderfully free job of fleshing out the jams.

A hearty thanks -- as well -- goes out to the Heartfelt Dodger (B. A. Knuston) who sat in on keys and also sang on "The Campfire Ethos."

This set, as usual, is courtesy of the attendance and active participation of The Baltimore Taper (baltimore-taper.blogspot.com).  Our thanks to Him as usual/always.

Lastly, other shows are available at Archive.org from We.  "Seek and Ye Shall Find."

1) While A. Lady is away, We have been employed -- soulfully -- in the pursuit of That New, Olde Easy Timey Other/Synth/Crunk/Jammy Band Feele.  Thanksfully, Krestovsky has graciously agreed to step into Our Fray this eve to accompany We in the Newly Known Horizon of Content.

2) "Black Satin Jacket" -- from Nash Kato's Debuntante -- is the best post-Gaucho Steely Dan song We've ever heard (and therefore and consequently do ringingly endorse it).

3) Dress Rehearsal is Pseudo-Live Crunk.  Rhythm guitars, keyboard programming, and vocals were recorded live.  During the initial demonstrations of various musical situations, a live vocal or guitar overdub was permitted (and, in some cases, freely (re: generously) encouraged.

Our thanks go out to -- once again -- The Baltimore Taper.  His words follow:

"It's always with pleasure and pride when I can introduce Baltimore bands to the rest of the world and it only gets better when the bands agree to allow the recordings to be hosted at The Live Music Archive (as a taper, I think it's the second most valuable asset at my disposal, after taperssection.com). Please visit The Live Music Archive to check out The Agrarians or any of the thousands of bands that have graciously allowed their music to be shared freely with music lovers around the world."
