Tickheads!

The interview went live yesterday on msnbc.com! Watch Brian Williams and the boys of Deer Tick sit down at NBC Studios and chat about private jets, life-altering moments, and "Dirty Dishes".

You'll have to sit through an Applebee's ad, but it's worth it.

Tickheads,

Rhode Island is a crazy place. This has become my new favorite local news story. It's a bizarro crime caper with a happy ending.

So on Friday, this man walks into a convenience store to rob the joint. The clerk talks him down to only taking $50 from the register. He leaves, and since Friday, nobody's been able to identify him.

So yesterday (Tuesday) he goes back to the same store, same clerk is working, and hands him a bag with $50 cash and an apology note!

The security cam video in its entirety can be streamed here:

Theif Changes Mind, Returns Cash

Enjoy!

Hey all,

Let me just drop some truth real quick...

I was a bit hurt by something I read about me being a "hungover, flaky motherfucker" and the word ill in quotation marks, because of some issues at SXSW this year. I just want to publicly state the following...

Yes, I was late for the Deer Tick set at Todd P's party at Ms. Bea's because I was sick and my throat hurt like crazy. (We did 8 shows in 4 days, 4 of them in one day, and I am no trained singer). I planned on taking the afternoon off cause my pipes were killin' me. But I suppose when you're in certain situations, you end up sacrificing a bit of independence, and even though you feel like shit it's still "in your best interest" to play. Text messages I got that guaranteed my life was going to be a living hell if I didn't play didn't feel to good, either. But all that aside, I'm offended that it was announced at that show that I was a "hungover, flaky motherfucker". I still showed up and put on the best show I could.

Homeslice Pizza was a whole 'nother story though. See, within the Deer Tick camp, lots of people were confused about what time we had to start. I woke up early that morning knowing that I could not possibly sing that day. It hurt to swallow water. Anyways, from my shitty motel room, I called some people who I figured would take care of the matter and get the word out early that we wouldn't be performing. But because of this confusion about our set time, our people contacted their people a half hour after we were supposed to play, because our people thought we were supposed to play in 3 hours. So, yeah, shitty situation, and I don't feel awesome about it at all. I'm sorry for anyone that went out to Homeslice hoping to see us that afternoon, I really am.

I just don't want anyone thinking that any of us are romantically self destructive or anything stupid like that. When we cancel a gig its because our van broke down, or someone is sick (or in my case, has tonsils the size of golf balls), or something really serious has happened.

We always play our asses off, we tour relentlessly, and we're people too. We love playing shows for all of you. And for those of you that haven't seen us live, we can't wait to play for you.

Bottom line is this: We hope that anybody who might be upset with us can understand where we're coming from, and understand the fact that we never intend to upset anybody (Except racists, sexists, homophobes, etc.)

With love,
-John J. McCauley III & Deer Tick.

Tickheads!

Wow, this is awesome. David Fricke picked Deer Tick as the #1 breaking band at SXSW 2009! We're featured on page 20 of the April 16, 2009 issue of Rolling Stone (RS 1076, which is out now) along with Little Boots, The Strange Boys, St. Vincent and The Soft Pack.

So if you happen to see the Rolling Stone with Lil Wayne on the cover while you're doing your grocery shopping or whatever, you ought to thumb through it; you may just stumble upon a picture of yours truly.

Much love,
-John & D.T.

Tickheads,

This is pretty awesome. Deer Tick gets a mention on Rachael Ray's website from Nightly News anchor Brian Williams! Video is here, its pretty weird hearing him say "Deer Tick" and "Dirty Dishes"

Brian Williams likes Deer Tick

Also, here's a video of Keith Morris (founding member of Black Flag and member of Circle Jerks) buying War Elephant!

Our band could be your life, indeed.

Tickheads,

Please excuse the title of this blog; its a bit misleading since we don't want to fight them because we love them.

After a few months of being off the road, Deer Tick went out on tour with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. We just want to express our love for those fellows. We had an amazing time getting to know Jason, Browan, Jimbo, Derry, Chad, and of course Todd. We miss them all and can't wait to see them at SXSW. We're playing a show with them down there, which is gonna fucking rule, and heres the deal...

At the final 400 Unit/Deer Tick show in Nashville, we dropped a stink bomb on stage during their final song. It was fucking disgusting and gross, but most of all, hilarious. It didn't take long for the boys in the 400 Unit to realize that this was our doing. I couldn't accurately gauge their reaction as a band, but as individuals I'm pretty sure none of them want to kill us. But we do want them to get us back for this childish prank. So please visit their myspace and give them some ideas. They are in our top friends, its just a click away...

Love,
-John & D.T.

Hey Tickheads,

I
should have done this awhile ago, but it slipped my mind, being on the
road and all. Splice Today, a music and pop culture blog, released a mixtape called
"The Old Lonesome Sound" which features current musical acts doing
their own renditions of old lonesome songs. Andy and I recorded a
version of Goebel Reeves' "Hobo's Lullaby" based mostly off the Woody
Guthrie version. The compilation is here, and is quite amazing...
