This one is for every note we make. Every word and phrase that comes through our microphones. Every riff. Every reference. Every variation. Every cover we chose to interpret. If you hear us say it or play it lets talk about it here. We will post lyrics, key and chords and discuss. We hope you enjoy and find it enjoyable and maybe informative. The first song and music discussion I would like to request is 6 O'clock News. This song was written, I believe, sometime last year by our keyboardist/vocalist Dale. The path to an NG setlist is a varied one and can take many turns along the way. We call this process "gravitized." 6 O'clock News has been gravitized and has made it to the last 2 shows. The version from the Sports Page is currenntly on MYSPACE, so check it out and come back to the blog.
At this time I would like to request any comments and questions regarding this song (or anything else regarding THE MUSIC) as well as have Dale post the lyrics and any commentary he would like to add at this time. MIKE from NG

Haven't we all asked ourselves that question at least once in our life and I'd say if it asked was only once you might have lived in the duldrums and on the overly cautious side of the fence? We cannot live our lives in caution. For caution does not bring about experience and whelps. And as my father once told me "experience and whelps build character," and we all need character. No? Yes! So cast caution into the wind and keep a good eye on it. Sometimes experience swoops down upon us without warning and the result is whelps. And the subsequent result is character.
You don't have to slip or trip to raise said roof or bring a house down. You don't have to molest the integrity of a structure to raise or bring down. No quaker needed nor demolition crew contracted.Anyways...I stray. The query at hand: Is it better to raise the roof or bring down the house?

Question: How'd you come up with the band name?
Mike: Lets make one up……….We have waxed on about the meaning(s) of it but……..] At the time we really just threw things out til something stuck.
Dave: I thought it has something to do with string theory but that was too intellectual for most of us.
Dale: Because no one liked my suggested band names such as "The McGurk Effect." I also proposed "Synesthetic" along with several others. (Wikipedia both of 'em if you don't know McGurk or synesthesia.) :) Let's consider.....
Gravity....
1.the force of attraction by which terrestrial bodies tend to fall toward the center of the earth.
Um, no.
2.heaviness or weight.
Yeah.
3.gravitation in general.
Not it.
4.acceleration of gravity.
Uh-uh, no.
5.a unit of acceleration equal to the acceleration of gravity. Symbol: g
No. And by the way, the universal gravitational constant, aka Newton's constant and colloquially Big G, should not be confused with "little g" (g), which is the local gravitational field. I used "Big G" in part of the NG logo…. "G sub n."
6.serious or critical nature: He seemed to ignore the gravity of his illness.
This combined with 2 is close.
7.serious or dignified behavior; dignity; solemnity: to preserve one's gravity.
And why we needed a "new" gravity!!!! One not so solemn - a "lighter" gravity!
8.lowness in pitch, as of sounds.
This definition is not wholly inappropriate!
At first it was "New Gravity and the String Theorists."
Mike (again):
NEW GRAVITY has multiple properties
1) NG is lighter than the "Old" gravity therefore less filling when necessary.
2) In turn, when referring to NG as a force of nature and having less pull or attraction, it is easier to fire, kick-out, let go, forget about when this reaction takes place. This property has been indispensible in the metamorphosis and amalgamation of the current composition of NG. To have always had the name and concept but to have taken the time to refine yet maintain the integrity of the initial compound has been an enlightening process and have surely made the individual components better for the experience.
3) By definition NG may also imply a "new" seriousness. This is also true but may seem, in verbatim, contrary to property 1 and convey some skepticism to property 2. If "new" is referenced in the context of a change or to be different and light does not simply imply having less of content or quality then we may be moving closer to defining NG. So therefore property 3 is referencing the varying levels of seriousness that may be incurred by NG but not overwhelming to recipients of NG.
4) Property 4 deals with unpredictability. "Old" gravity, as some refer to it, has a significant and measurable level of predictability. This characteristic of predictability tends to squelch the level of amusement achieved by forces of nature or similar events. This makes "old" gravity somewhat limiting and restrictive. In an inverse reference to "old" gravity, we are achieving, with NG, an unpredictable level of amusement and therefore entertainment merely by instilling NG into an equation.
Whereas the properties described may qualify NG as an entity or a force, I think NG warrants further observation and discussion. NG should be subjected to further testing, exposure to multiple conditions to gain further insight into the primary component of NG.
In my observation of NG for the last 2 ½ years if have found that in addition to the above noted properties that NG can be altered and manipulated by the tiniest of particle as well as large wavelengths. Detail and measurements of the observation will presented later for consideration for future experiments and expeditions.
Dale: You wanna write my thesis proposal? :)
