Lawrence Kinney and wife artist Mary Ouimette-Kinney were invited by the International Institute, of the U.S. State Department, to speak about their art to visitors from the country of Angola. Mr. António Ana, Angola's most decorated sculptor, and Mr. Patrício Cipriano, an art critic and philosopher, plan to open an art school/gallery in Angola, as part of a political movement called Etonism, or tolerant reasoning. A formal visit was held on Friday, May 30, 2008, at the Kinney's home gallery, where the artists selected two of Mary Ouimette-Kinney's signed prints to bring back to Angola. The visit then continued at Artpark (Lewiston, NY), where Lawrence Kinney's sculpture is on exhibit until September 15, 2008. Dialogue between the artists continues with future plans to be announced. Photos of the official visit and the signed prints to be posted soon.
Lawrence Kinney received the Grand Prize at the June 3, 2008 opening of the first annual Edges Outdoor Sculpture Competition, sponsored by Artpark, for his sculpture, "Spalted Device". The national competition was juried by Robert L. Wood, Professor of Design, and Head of the Ceramics Program at Buffalo State College. Kinney's award was announced before an audience of 4,000 people. Brett Michaels of Poison fame performed following the ceremony. A reception for the artists was held during the concert. The exhibit, which features the sculptures of eight finalists, will continue through September 15, 2008. Kinney's sculpture is located adjacent to Artpark's Art Gallery near the venue's Mainstage Theater entrance.

Maxie Man!

Sculptor Lawrence Kinney produced this sculpture and I assisted with fine details. We thought we would share a few pics, as this was fun to do from an artistic perspective.

According to Hollyood Cure For Pain:
'Hollywood Cure for Pain is a movement of people in the entertainment industry to help raise awareness and find a cure for people that suffer from various pain disorders. Approximately 50-75 million Americans suffer from persistent chronic pain. Many are unable to work and even perform basic daily living activities. Estimated loss of productivity costs to the U.S. economy range from 60-100 billion dollars per year. Chronic pain manifests itself in 70% of all cancer patients, HIV, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, sciatica, fibromyalgia, back pain, ALS, post stroke, underrepresented rare pain disorders (such as erythromelalgia), central pain syndrome (post stroke pain) and numerous other conditions. A 2001 survey in the Lancet determined that more than half of 500 terminally ill patients still experienced moderate to severe pain.'
I am proud to be part of this movement. They are well worth the support!
