So it's that time of week again...for an update from Gina.

Short: Good week.  SAC museum and Vala's trip with Girl Scouts was good, even though we treked through snow flakes at the Pumpkin Patch.  Visit from Lisa and Keith was great!  Had a successful church family event out at camp for some fall fun!

Longer: The last week wasn't all that exciting.  I went to aerobics twice, Jeff studied in the evenings while I was at aerobics.  I tried to get some scrapbooking done, but I was making too many mistakes while trying to watch TV with Jeff.  So that was minimal...yipes!

Then Friday, Cathy and I packed up the Girl Scout van and her car, and we headed down to pick up our group at the interstate.  We headed toward Lincoln, and met up with a group from there at Runza for dinner.  Then we were headed to the SAC museum.  We checked in and started with a tour of a few planes.  The highlight of this was a plane that claimed to have been the fastest plane ever made.  It can make it from Omaha to Denver in 7 minutes.  Omaha to Kansas City less than 3 minutes.  So that was the SR-71 "Black Bird."  Then we were free to look around at Space/Aviation toys, like Star Trek, ET, etc.  Then the girls learned a little about women astronauts.  Then the girls' favorites, was the flight simulator.  They got to drive a plane and this thing would flip you front wards, do barrel rolls, just like the real thing, I would imagine.  I tried it after all girls were done, and boy is it a good thing I didn't become a pilot!  My stomach wasn't right for the rest of the night.  I suggested to them that they ought to have 7up and Saltines for snack that night.  The girls got to make a small wooden airplane, and then they were able to make a rocket.  We shot them off in a hangar, and they were hitting the top and coming back down.  It was amazing how those suckers fly!  Then it was snack, and we watched Robots...loved it!  I cracked up big time!  The girls were able to sleep in a plane that had like quadruple stacked bunk beds, so that was neat for them.  We listened to the rain/sleet come down all night in the hangar.  Cathy joked with our surroundings and all that it was the Japs firing at us.  I laughed for a full ten minutes.

The next morning, we were up, dressed, given breakfast, and about 10 minutes in the store there, and were pushed out.  We resisted as long as we could and then we headed through the snowflakes to Vala's Pumpkin Patch.  We arrived, split up into groups and tried doing some indoor activities to keep warm.  I felt bad for all the animals out there...they were shivering!  We made it until noon, had lunch and everyone was ready to go.  I did fine some cute stuff that was on clearance for our yard, a $5 scarecrow, and $4 wooden pumpkin sign that says Trick or Treat Welcome.  So some good buys.  The girls picked up there pumpkins and we boarded the car.  I was forced to listen to the Nebraska game on the way home at request of the leaders.  And I had the girls tell me Halloween jokes.  They had literally a full hour's worth.  Some really cute ones!  We got home, unloaded and I got back to the house about 5 pm.  We thought it would be really funny to put the scarecrow I bought in the yard, and ding dong ditch Jeff, so we were setting up and guess who during his pacing while yappin' on the cell phone looked out the window?  Man, it would have been good!  So we got a good laugh about that.  Then Cathy left.  Jeff was all excited when I got home.  He told me of how he studied, and wasn't expecting me home for awhile, so hadn't done his chores yet.  OK, back to the excitement, he had found some dress shirts and pants at TJ Max's and Kohl's, so had to show me and get my opinion, so we were off to there.  He ended up getting five new dress shirts and three pairs of pants that he's excited about.  So that was good.  Then while driving back I noticed a Jimmy John's going in down there!  Yea!  I love that place!  We were off to Sam's to pick up some pizza's.  We got those, got home and watched some sports stuff.

Sunday, we missed church because of Lisa and Keith coming out.  They got out here about 11:30, and we had fun chit-chatting and Lisa gave me some fun appletini mix and popsicle molds for my birthday.  How cute!  Then I gave them their door prizes as they wouldn't be back down from MN next weekend for the party.  We took them out to lunch at Whiskey Creek, and it was good.  We chatted awhile longer and then it was time for us to go.  We headed out to camp and started building the fire, and getting the hayrack all set up.  The 30-40 church people enjoyed a hayrack ride, hot dog, s'more, pumpkin painting, capture the flag, and their family picture taken on hay bales.  Jeff loved playing football with the kids.  He said he could hardly get out of bed this morning, he was so sore.  We cleaned up about 7, dropped something off and chatted with the Cochnar's for awhile and got home after 9.  What a fun-filled weekend.  Squeezed everything in there possible.

I had/have today and tomorrow off.  I mostly cleaned today...wohoo, exciting, and went to aerobics, and the remainder of the evening is devoted to scrapbooking.  We did get out new coffee table and end table delivered today.  It's weird, but I'm sure we'll get used to it.  It's really nice looking.  Tomorrow is reserved for scrapbooking as well.  Then aerobics.  Then we're having my boss' and my birthday party at work on Wednesday (hers is on the 26th, and mine on the 27th...how funny) then I will take Friday afternoon off, as well as Jeff to get ready for the party on Saturday.  I'm so excited.  I think it will be a fun time.  Just a few preparations in the meantime.

Well, I better get to my plan, so we'll report how the birthday/Halloween party went on Sunday or Monday!

Until then,

Short Version:  Good week filled with ordinary things.  We got spooked a couple times with some Ding Dong Ditch antics.  Not sure who the hooligans may be.  I scrapbooked and Jeff watched TV, and studied a little.  That's about it.  Read on if you will.

Long: Well, I just finished sweeping and mopping so thought I better get all my Sunday activities checked off my list!

Things were fairly uneventful this week.  Jeff had to audit Exchange Bank in GI on Wed. and Thurs. so he called me up at lunch time and I met him at home.  It wasn't anything spectacular, but neat to see him mid-day.

Monday, we both had the afternoon off for various appointments.  Jeff went to the eye Dr. and dentist, and came out with new glasses, no cavities and the cleanest his teeth have been in over 2 years!  I had Chiro and Dentist, where they started me on Fluoride pills.  Also on Monday we were surprised, perhaps around 9 PM, with load pounding at the door.  After investigation through the peephole, I realized that it was Cathy and Kayla who are my Girl Scout friends I took to MLC, and being over at the school for a game, thought they would come and harass us.

I did make it to aerobics all 3 days this week, and the only day my knee hurt was Thursday, and after figuring it out, I didn't take my fish oil pill that day, so that could have contributed some.

I felt like in the evening every night, I was accomplishing things---updating my address book, erasing e-mails, chores, etc.  So I would be ready to scrapbook all weekend.

I figured out my preliminary itinerary for the Southeast Coast Trip for next summer.  Sounds like it will be a blast.  Even Cathy who warned me that she would be picky looking at it, so I wouldn't be disappointed when the girls' looked at it, thought it was "awesome."  So I must know the "must-sees" of the South.

Jeff stayed in town two days, so that helped out with gas for the week, and headed to Minden on Friday.  It was nice having him home at decent times.  He actually made dinner a few nights.

I had to change computers again at work, for one with a faster processor.  Unfortunately the CD-ROM drive doesn't work, so in about a month our IT person will try and figure it out.  I get frustrated jumping through hoops.  On the upside, Tiffany our new gal is just awesome!  She's so nice and a hard workin' gal.  We're very different, but compliment each other well.  She reminds me of Dawn from Babysitter's Club as a kid...that earthy, California girl.

This weekend, was low key.  I started making banana bread Friday night.  We both went to bed quite early...9 pm...and got a ring of the doorbell at 10 PM.  It startled both of us because we were sleeping.  It seemed as though no one was there, although it took us 10 minutes until we got to the door after getting over the initial fear.

Saturday morning at had roadside clean-up with Kiwanis.  Jeff went across the street to watch his boss' son play pee-wee football (or whatever you may call it).  Then, we headed to the bank, where we renewed a CD and transferred funds.  Then to Union Bank where we paid off the rest of our explorer!  No more car payments for us and long as our cars continue to work!  Then we did a little shopping.  We visited Kayla who works at Kmart, to see if she was the culprit of our ding dong ditch from last night.  Our other big news of Saturday, was that we bought a beautiful new coffee table and end table for our living room.  It will come a week from tomorrow, so I'll be sure to take pictures when it comes in.  Jeff studied and cleaned in the afternoon while I scrapbooked.  We picked up Chinese for dinner and watched a couple movies.  We had another ring at the doorbell, 8 PM this time, and I opened the door, to find a car speeding away.  I was quite sure it was the Cathy lady from earlier in the week.

This morning we went to church (which we forgot to greet at..whoops!), and cleaned up the fellowship time food after wards (we didn't get out of that greeter responsibility!  Which was totally fine of course!).  Then we went to the Cathy and Kayla's house to see if they were the ones who did the Ding Dong Ditch last night after I had investigated Kayla yesterday...may have given her the idea.  They were all accounted for, so we are still puzzled as to who maybe doing this.  I scrapbooked today, Jeff studied.  Then we had TNT Bible study tonight.  It was good.  Then just some cleaning, and no doorbell ringing...hopefully not now after 11 PM anyway.

The week ahead is pretty easy.  Jeff has his 2nd or 3rd to last audit of the year, and I'm just chillin' in the office all week, until Friday.  On Friday I will be taking 16 girls and 6 adults to the Strategic Air and Space Museum in Omaha where we will spend the night in an airplane and enjoy their program.  Then we head to Vala's Pumpkin Patch all day Saturday.  I should get home to Jeff about 8 or 9 Sat. night.  Then Lisa, my woman, from St. Cloud, MN and husband Keith are coming out to visit us on Sunday.  After their visit we have a hay rack ride out at camp.  Should be a pretty filled weekend!  Then we'll be getting ready for our party after that!

Have a Spooktacular Week!

Short Version:  We had a fine week.  I made my very own artwork mid-week (which is attached), and that was great fun!  We headed to Omaha on Friday evening and hung out with my GS friend Laura, and Tim all evening.  Laura and I shopped Sat morning, is which I found the greatest thing---a vikings hat for Jeff's Halloween costume, that I proceeded to wear around Omaha while driving.  Then we went to the Homecoming game at Midland, Nick's Husker Party and returned home on Sunday to facilitate the ropes course for our TNT group and Youth Group.  It turned cold on Sunday and has continued to be cold!  That's it!

Well, let's start with earlier in the week.  Monday I went to aerobics and Jeff and I worked at cleaning up the house some.  We were planning to leave early on Friday, so I brought our program flier to be printed next week home, and edited for 2.5 hours.  Lots of errors, but well worth my time, as we went over all that today at work.  I also did a little creating for thanksgiving cards, and those are all done now as well.  So kind of productive!

Tuesday was yet another productive day with getting chores checked off the list.  Then Wednesday we had a staff meeting in Kearney, which went well for the most part.  They liked the events we have planned.  Thursday I received my Franklin Covey 2007 stuff so got that all ready to go.  As soon as the flier is sent to be published I'll have lots of dates and tasks to enter.  So that will be nice to get organized.  I also went to Key Club Thursday night, and volunteered to have a key club costume party at our house, on Monday, October 30th.  I think they'll really get into it, so it'll be fun to see what they come up with as far as costumes! :)

Friday was nice.  Kathy, Tiffany and I (our program team) all went out to Timberlake Camp and our camp for Tiffany to become acquainted.  It was somewhat of a relaxing day.  Like I mentioned before, we were planning to leave early, but there's some things Jeff got caught up investigating for work, and so we didn't get out of Aurora until 6:15 or so!  We headed to Omaha, and got to Tim's place, Jeff changed and took him with.  Then we headed 3 blocks away or so, to Laura (my girl scout friend from a trip in '99), well her place to pick her up.  Then we headed to the Old Market and ate of course a very delicious meal at Spaghetti Works.  It was fun catching up with Laura, and Tim just chimed along.  So fun!  Then we took a walk around, and had a couple drinks at Mr. Toad's where Tommy Siske was working...which is why we went in, in the first place.  Then we headed over to Farnam to go down the big slides.  Tim said he hadn't been there, since I took a Haunted House seeking group there back my sophomore year, Tim's freshman year.  Pre-Jeff even!  So Laura was impressed by the amazing slides, as well as Jeff and Tim and I being re-impressed!  We then headed back towards Tim stopping at Hy-vee for some hot chocolate and marshmallows.  We sat and watched a funny show on E! while warming up to our cocoa.  I took Laura home and set a time to meet her again in the morning.  Then went to bed once back at Tim's.

Jeff and Tim got up around 7:45 or so for golfing.  It sounded like they had fun!  I picked up Laura around 9 am, and we were Nobbies-bound.  Laura's birthday is ON Halloween, so we had a blast looking at decorations.  Can you even imagine???  Me finding someone who loves pumpkins and fall decor as much as me???  It was fun.  Laura found some great Pirate Bulletin board stuff that she's excited to hang up in her classroom (we had fun coming up with expressions..."R" you ready for class today?, etc.) and some fall leaves to hang up there as well (Non-Halloween related decorations).  I walked out with one amazing thing.  As you may know, Jeff wants to be Flava flav for Halloween, so I found him...a Vikings helmet!  Dual purpose, he can wear it for the games as well!  I got some good use out of it at first by wearing it around Omaha while driving to our shopping endeavors!  We got some great looks and laughs from the neighboring cars.  Laura said, "Now I remember why we became friends in the first place!"  We had a lot of fun with that.  We then traveled over to Oakview where we checked out a few stores, and the Franklin Covey store.  Laura became a believer and bought her own set to get organized for school.  Before leaving Oakview I had to induct Laura in the Nebraska tradition of eating at Runza.  I've always been to scared to eat a Runza, so we actually enjoyed our first one together!  We took pictures.  After this I dropped Laura off after seeing her beautiful place!

Jeff and Tim ended up being right behind me for the 3 blocks back to Tim's place, so they got a first look of me driving around with the Vikings helmet and reacted similarly to the neighboring cars (maybe Jeff with a little more embarrassment than amusement).  We grabbed our belongings and headed to Fremont for the Homecoming football game.  There surely weren't as many MLC alumni there as there used to be.  The number dwindles each year.  I'm sure it didn't help that I ran out of time to e-mail and see who was going, and what people were doing, etc.  We sat with Janet and the Vrbas, and watched a close game until they blew it.  We then chatted with "Rod the Bod" about happenings at Midland.  It's fun talking to him once a year.  Then, we headed over to Janet's and hung out with Tim and Sara there for a few hours.  We then had Chinese at Imperial Palace, met up with Joey and went over to Nick Vrba's house for their husker party.  Of course I had to wear my Vikings helmet for the entire evening!  They got some good laughs out of flava flav.  And Jeff got more excited about his costume throughout the evening.  Sara, Joey and I left for Walgreen's at about 10:30 or so maybe to meet up with Janet.  We fiddled around the store and bought more door prizes for our Halloween party along with all the items that are free after rebate.  We had a great time there and meanwhile we were able to improve our fart sounds made with arms, lips & teeth and all!  Fun stuff.  We went home and chatted with Janet for awhile, then went to bed.

Janet got up somewhat early, same time as us, to fix some delish eggs!  Thanks again Janet that really hit the spot!  Then we packed up and were on our way back to GI.  We unpacked the car and then it was time to head over to Camp to get the rope course ready for our TNT and Youth Groups to visit even though we went from 90 some degrees on Saturday to 50s on Sunday.  What an extreme change!  They came out and worked together and had a lot of fun.  I think it was especially fun to watch Jeff out there.  He had a great time riding the mule around camp with Joe (similar to a gator), and then watching him on the rope course was sure entertaining.  He was a little nervous letting me push him down the zip line.  All went well.  We came home, showered and Jeff requested that we just relaxed together for the remainder of the evening.  No objections from me.  We did just that, and it was great.

There's not much to report from Mon. and Tues. but anything there is I will do on Sunday (yes, a real Sunday e-mail hopefully!)

This week I'm trying to get to Aerobics all three times, and so far I hit the first two, so off to a great start.  Then the only other thing is this weekend, Jeff will be in the books for the majority of it, getting a real good start of studying for the next exam.  Meanwhile, I hope to hit the scrapbook real hard.  I would love to have a lot of it done by our party.  That would be great.  And we have a CD coming up this month, and we're going to finish paying off our Explorer, so need to head to the bank and get those money matters taken care of as well.  Glad to have that over, and back to saving a ton again!  That's really it.  OK, I lied...

Last Tuesday maybe I created some art!  I saw it on HGTV and thought it was such a great idea, I had to try it for myself.  So I will attach it.  It's actually hanging in the living room, and Jeff just really loves it.  He was so excited to get it hung up!

OK, that's it for real!  Have a great week!

I'm catching up, so here goes:

After a wild week in Vegas, we surely needed to go to church :).  On Sunday we went to church and as we walked in and began to sat down, I noticed we were going to sit next to my friend Megan, who helped me with a GS thing last January and her husband Troy.  It was nice having them there.  After church, Jeff and I, and Megan and Troy went out to lunch at Carlos O'Kelly's.  We had a fun time getting to know them a little better, and see how things were since the start of married life.  I went home for a few minutes before I headed out grocery shopping and Jeff was on laundry duty.  I got home just minutes prior to when we were supposed to be at Youth Group, so we got everything together quickly and headed over to the church.  They had a planning meeting for the fall to see what they wanted to do.  I invited them to our Rope Course event, and fall hayrack ride family event we would be having out at camp 2 sundays in October.  Other things they decided on were movie nights, game nights, etc.  So it will be fun helping out with that group.  We ran home to eat quick, then returned for TNT at church and played some mean games of Nerts, a card game.  There were 11 people there, and people are starting to bring other friends, which is neat.  We finished laundry when we got home and that's that for Sunday.

On Monday, we welcomed my new co-worker Tiffany to Girl Scouts and the Grand Island office.  She's so nice, and it's been fun helping to Orient her.  I think she'll be great!  I got home to find Jeff studying...yea!  And during dinner we got to have some nice conversations.  I talked to Lisa on Monday and she told me she was planning to come see us the third weekend in October, after I get back from my SAC museum trip.  So that will be fun.  I was on the horn all night it seemed like, talking to Mom, then Brian, and then Maria.  And she has a boyfriend!  So it was fun hearing all the new developments in everyone's life.  Even if Lisa's boss is flava flave!

Tuesday, Tiffany and I split events for the Jan-May flier.  So it's nice to have an even workload finally!  I can't tell you how much of a difference that makes.  I went to Aerobics.  Wednesday, we worked, and I think Jeff was on an audit.  After work, I did some errand running, then we just hung out together Wed. night.  Thursday, I had to dress up in my green uniform, as we had to attend a lunch for United Way campaign kick-off.  The speaker was a long-time volleyball coach in Nebraska, and boy was he a wonderful speaker.  Then Thursday night, I had a lot of goals, but not a lot of time.  I did however start typing my Vegas review, and got only half-way through.  I had to get all my stuff ready for the weekend, and then pack.  I didn't sleep a whole lot Thurs. night.  Oh well.

Friday, Jeff went to work a couple hours after I left for Fremont.  I was picked up at 6:30 I think by the Cochnars.  I have to admit, it was really interesting going on a college visit to Midland.  The first stop was the new gym and it looked awesome!  It was neat to see Sara's banner!  Then, the first person Kayla met with was Justin Horner, the track coach, and my fellow RHD for a couple years.  Good to see him.  Then, we were off to see Dr. Lorie in the education dept.  Of course she had to tell them my nickname, "Wild Woman."  Then we sat in on a class, which I'm way impressed with the new prof's they've got in there.  Looks like edu at MLC is thriving.  Then we had our campus tour.  The tour guy gets 4 stars for having to take me and a family on a tour, he just chimed right along, and when I would give information he would confirm it, I mean really nice guy.  However, when he showed us his room in Gundy, my only instinct was to write him up, because he had a smirnoff, and vodka bottle on his shelf, and they were half full.  And the photos in his room were kind of derrogatory.  Hopefully the Cochnar's didn't notice that as much as my inner RHD did!  That would be my only complaint.  Lunch was the same ol' lunch, except Sara came up behind me and tickled me.  We went by her room and I think the Cochnar's were impressed with the Eastside size rooms.  I showed them my tree before they left.  Cathy wrote me the next week and said that it was great that I came along, and asked all the right questions and stuff.  She said Midland was her first choice at the moment, between it and UNK.  So we'll see how the other tours go, and what she thinks.  I think it would be a good fit for her, but of course she'll go where she needs to. :)  So then I walked over to Beegle and spent a good amount of time chatting with Sara in her room.  Then Anna came back from her class, and the three of us chatted, and then headed downtown Fremont, where we picked up some earwax candles, ate ice cream at Jordon Paden's coffee shop and talked to them awhile, and shortly went into a couple more stores down there.  Then we went to Family Dollar where we started buying some gag gifts for our party coming up in Oct.  And we bought some beautiful hair pieces that didn't match our hair color, that we put in our hair.

After our shopping adventure and lots of laughs, we headed over to Janet's where Jeff was, and left soon after for dinner at Laslo's.  Nick and Tracey met us there, along with Joey.  We just really had a great time talking and telling stories, talking about Midland, etc. from 7:30-11!  We realized the time, and headed back to Janet's where Nancy and Glenn had just arrived as well!  We visited for a few minutes, and then Sara and I went to town on our ear candling.  The elders of the room got a real kick out of how dumb we were for doing it.  We thought it was quite entertaining ourselves.  And the gross part is when we were done with each ear, we cut it open to see what came out, and boy did we have quite a bit of ear wax come out of our heads.  I'll send a picture of that adventure later.  We went to bed quite late and morning came quick.  Jeff, Glenn, Joey and Tim went to Whitetail for 18 holes of golf.  Then Nancy and I went to Gordman's and met up with Sara later on.  We also ventured into Hallmark and a couple other stores.  Then for lunch, we picked up San Anna's chips and cheese...yumm!!!  We watched some of the college games that were on, and Sara helped me to set up a classmates account.  Wohoo...more things to check daily!  The guys also played some poker.  Nancy, Sara and I perused walmart for awhile too.  It was all very nice.  We had Tacos for dinner and watched more football.  Janet and I talked awhile about Midland and stuff before we hit the rack.

As for Sunday morning, we got up, showered, packed our stuff and ate a ham sandwhich with potato salad (surprise, surprise :) ) for lunch before we were on our way.  Jeff and I had some nice talking in between plays on the way back to GI.  We started laundry and pretty soon after, I had to go to youth group.  We watched the movie evolution.  The kids are really nice and quite funny.  I had to jet out a couple minutes early before our "Amazing Race Grand Island" started for TNT.  It was boys against girls and I drove us around.  It was a ton of fun!  We had to do things like bowl a strike at the bowling alley, do the monkey bars at Stolley Park, count the ads at a youth baseball field, climb tornado hill, etc.  We had to get a picture of every task we accomplished.  We met up with the guys on Stolley Park road, so that was fun, making us a little more competitive!  The girls won by a landslide and the pictures were so fun to look at when we got back.  The organizers of our group sure went through a lot of trouble putting it together, so we had to thank them big-time!

Then we finished laundry upon our return, and talked about our different adventures that night.  Then it was off to a new week!  Which I will have to tell you about before long, so I'll just wait for that, since this is all ready quite long!  Write to you on Sunday after our Homecoming adventure, and rope course event with the TNT and Youth Groups.  Oh I will say one thing though.  I am going to have dinner in Omaha on Friday night with Laura David who was a friend of mine from my NY trip I took with Girl Scouts in '99, who grew up in IL, went to college in Iowa and moved to Omaha due to getting a teaching job there.  So that will be so fun.  Tim is coming with us, too.  So should be a great start to the weekend!

Good nightstand material ahead: :)

Saturday, September 16, 2006- We got up and finished packing for the trip.  We drove to Lincoln to catch our flight, which ended up being an hour delayed from taking off, due to weather in Vegas.  Because our flight was so cheap ($150/person round-trip) we ended up having to pay for snacks and drinks on the plane...therefore that was limited. :)  We arrived in Vegas and Jeff loved the fact that there were slot machines in the airport, although he wouldn't play them because they wouldn't pay out he claimed.  We got to the rental car area, and I told Jeff he would have to try and get our car rental discounted if we had to pay extra for being under 25.  He did a great job negotiating; we paid the extra $150, and got a free upgrade to the ultra-roomy Suzuki Florenza (it made a compact car look big!)  Good job on that one Jeff!  We headed out of the parking lot and made it to the Stratosphere by our visual compass, checked in and brought the luggage to our room.  We went downstairs for awhile to check out the casino, and then ate dinner at Lucky's restaurant.  We then again looked around the casino and checked out the sports book.  Jeff wasn't as impressed as he thought he would be.  Jeff wanted to see the strip and get out and walk around all the hotels, so we got in the car, got on the strip and waited in 2 hours of Saturday night traffic on the way down the strip and on the way back...not getting out of the car once.  It was nice to see the lights.  We went to bed early, around 10 pm.

Congrats, you made it to day 2.

Sunday, September 17, 2006- Although we went to bed early, we decided to sleep in regardless.  Jeff went downstairs to check out the Vikings game at the sports book, while I showered and watched price is right.  After a little while, we headed to Circus, Circus.  We ended up watching the last quarter and then overtime of the Vikings game due to the comeback by the Vikings that Jeff wasn't anticipating.  We then played a variety of carnival games, and ended up winning four stuffed animals: white tiger (pretty big), pink lizard, fluffy dog, and teddy bear.  We also got to see a circus act, where this man balanced on a rolling can and board.  It was pretty neat.  He could really blow those Cirque people later in the week out of the water (hehe "O")  Ok, well maybe not, but it was free you see.  We parked the car a little further down the strip at the Frontier, and walked into the hotels around it on both sides of the street.  We went back to the Stratosphere to change clothes for our evening at the comedy club.  We drove to and then did valet at the Tropicana and enjoyed 3 very humorous comedians at the Comedy Stop in the Trop.  We were quite hungry afterwards, so headed to a Mexican restaurant La Cantina.  It was very Mexican tasting; from like when I was in Mexico, so of course I didn't like it.  The waitress noticed and was really nice, and brought me out some plain tacos.  Pretty sure that was the biggest tip Jeff ever gave in his life.  But she deserved it.  We headed back to the Strat after dinner.

Monday, September 18, 2006-My Dad's Birthday- Woke up after sleeping in.  Watched price is right, and then Jeff went down and gambled half-way through.  Ate a McD's for lunch.  Got in the car, as Hoover Dam was the destination...but when getting there found out it was closed, due to high winds and cranes falling the previous day.  We did have a real treat for our drive though, by looking at Lake Mead.  Gorgeous blue, green water!  On the way back to Strat we stopped and shopped at the Hallmark close-out store.  I couldn't believe my eyes!  It was an old grocery store filled with Hallmark items!  I found a few great gifts and my drink mix buckets for $2.50.  Didn't do quite as much damage as I could have!  Got back to LV, and ate at Outback for dinner (Thanks Uncle Tom & Aunt Laura) which was right across the street from the Mirage.  Just prior to dinner we watched the Mirage's volcano presentation begin.  After a really nice dinner, we went to the Venetian, to Madame Tussad's Wax Museum.  We really had a fabulous time taking pictures with all the stars.  I married George Clooney, appeared on Oprah, Jeff played 1 on 1 with Shaq & golfed with Tiger Woods.  We went into the Venetian, and walked up and down the "streets" and watched the gondoliers and their passengers.  We then ourselves, enjoyed a romantic gondola ride after seeing a just engaged couple get off the boat in front of us.  That was neat.  Our gondolier was quite funny as he reminded other gondoliers in passing, to not sing the Hokey Pokey to the passengers.  He also had a wonderful voice and it was all very enjoyable.  We saw the Volcano explode again after coming out of the Venetian and made our way down to Cesaer's palace to see "The David."  This was our first after midnight night...stayed out until 1 AM! :)

Tuesday, September 19, 2006- This was to be our day to explore the Stratosphere.  Went to the ticket counter and got our ride up in the tower, our Big Shot ride ticket and our Viva Las Vegas Variety show for the afternoon.  We headed up 100+ stories to the observation deck and watched the 2 other crazy rides, just hang off the edge.  Jeff and I were both convinced that we would have no part of those rides, as we didn't have enough life insurance!  If those rides would malfunction, there's only one way off, and you will have one amazing last view of the strip!  We did make our way up to the Big Shot, as we rocketed straight up even higher than 1,149 feet!  It was quite the thrill and quite an amazing view!  I did conclude that I am quite satisfied with the height of our rope course, and do not wish to raise it any higher.  We had a better view of the dangling rides, and were still convinced that they were crazy!  We made out way back down, and became land-lovers again, by enjoying the Viva Las Vegas show.  I'm glad we didn't have to pay $100 like our Cirque shows, but it wasn't bad for being free.  The magician was funnier than the two comedians combined.  He had a bunch of dogs dressed up in costumes.  It was hilarious!  We had a very romantic dinner at Fellinis in the Strat, where we both enjoyed Chicken Alfredo.  I told Jeff that was the first time I think I've eaten at an Italian restaurant in close to a year!  Boy, am I in withdrawal!  We then drove down to the MGM to see our Cirque du Soliel show, "Ka."  It was definitely good, but was also as dramatic and it was doing stunts.  I was looking forward to it being more stunts than drama.  But it was very good and the set was like nothing you've ever seen.  After the show we made our way down the strip a little ways, and then headed back to Strat.

Wednesday, September 20, 2006.  In the morning, we slept in awhile, ate at Panda Express for some Chinese food, and then we headed out to Hoover Dam, once again.  And fortunately for us this time it wasn't closed!!  However, Jeff being the thrifty guy he is, decided that we shouldn't take the Dam tour.  We did however walk around the entire place.  What a sight.  And again the water was just this amazing color!  The architecture looked quite modern, instead of how old it actually was.  We found a recording that was playing near an old ticket gate and listened in for awhile.  I hate going places and not understanding the real importance of them, which is why I was mad we didn't take the dam tour, but fortunately they explained some interesting facts about the dam on this recording and how it supplies that water to the surrounding states of I believe AZ, CA and UT.  That's amazing!  Once we took all the dam pictures, and I got some dam souvenirs, we headed from where our car was parked in Arizona, and back to Nevada for some golf, at Boulder Creek Golf Course in Boulder City.  I really got to experience a real 18 hole golf course with Jeff, without any clowns or windmills!  I think the thing I was first amazed with though, was the GPS system in the cart.  "You are 207 yards from the green, 219 from the hole!"  That was pretty neat.  I also watched the magical science while waiting for golfers ahead of washing clubs and balls.  It looked kind of fun.  At first, Jeff wanted to just get through and wouldn't let me behind the wheel.  But after a few times of taking the flags out of the holes, he let me zoom, zoom, zoom.  I enjoyed some of the wildlife while Jeff tried to golf.  I caught a great picture of a chipmunk that came about 2-3 feet beside me.  And then, along the whole course, we kept seeing a ton of Jackrabbits!  There ears were longer than there bodies, and boy were they big though.  I would say 15 pounds some of them weighed!  All in all, it was beautiful being surrounded by the mountains and the only ball Jeff couldn't find was the last one, in which Jeff and I both thought hit the green or real close.  Of course the last place we looked was the hole, but unfortunately not there either…unless it is similar to mini-golf, and was swallowed up into the ball bin under the ground.  In which case, he got an 82 instead of an 83. J  We headed back to the Strat, all sweaty and cold from the mountain air, so we changed before our night out on the town.  We went to downtown Las Vegas and ate at Binions.  Jeff enjoyed some prime rib and lobster for $9.99.  We watched the Laser Show, and checked out souvenirs.  Then I saw a sign outside of the casino that had advertised, 99 cent Margaritas.  So we go in and they also have a drawing for a free pull on the slot machine that we entered.  But they had to call your number as they had one free pull every half hour.  We were minutes away, so we decided to wait, and our numbers weren't pulled.  So then the real gem was that they were out of the 99 cent margarita cups.  I thought that was a little suspicious, but didn't give them a whole lot of grief.  We go into the casino across the way, also advertising 99 cent margaritas.  I wait in a somewhat long line to order my margarita, and just as I suspected, they happened to be out of the 99 cent margarita cups.  I pointed at the small cocktail cup they use, and I ask if I could have a margarita in there.  She says no, those are the cocktail cups.  And then I ask how they can advertise it falsely then.  And the girl gets a huge attitude with me, and says if I have a problem I can talk to her manager.  So I go in the direction she points me to speak with the manager.  I explained to him that I came in the casino to get a margarita, wait in line and conveniently they are out of cups.  He then asks, what do you mean by conveniently?  I told him about the casino we were in just previous to his, and I couldn't understand why they couldn't sell me a 99 cent margarita in a cocktail cup.  He asks me to follow him, where he tells the bar wenches to give me my margarita in a cocktail cup.  So after all that work, I enjoyed the best pina colada slush ever.  And quite truthfully, Jeff went in hid during my confrontation at a slot machine, then came out after it was over, to enjoy half of the pina colada!  That dork!  Well, I showed downtown who was boss, and Jeff didn't want to risk me doing that again in another casino, so we headed back to the strat, where we sat down at some slots.  This was actually the only night I gambled.  I spent $2 at the nickel slots, and enjoyed a couple free drinks there, and called it a night.

Thursday, September 21, 2006.  We slept in awhile after a late night arguing for margaritas on Wednesday.  We both watched the price is right in bed.  Good bonding time watching Plinko.  We had to find a Wells Fargo ATM and filled up on gas, and ate lunch at Wendy's after driving quite awhile trying to find a subway (which you sure couldn't do in Grand Island!)  We headed down the strip to finish the hotels we hadn't seen yet.  We checked out Paris, Aladdin and the others in close proximity.  We headed back around 7 or so to change into nicer clothes for our Cirque du Soliel Show, "O" at the Billagio.  We got there right at an hour prior, waited in line for our tickets, and headed to our seats.  Now this show was just amazing.  It's a lot of circus acts focused around water.  The ground would come and go, as people would run across and then dive into 10 seconds later.  It was beautiful.  I think my favorite was the diving off swinging pendulum type things which made them start by going up into their dive and of course down.  Sorry, it's so hard to explain all the things our eyes saw.  There were two clowns also that were quite funny throughout the show.  And then there were contortionists who sit on their own heads, then stack three people tall, looking like totem poles!  It was such a neat experience and I can't lie when I say that I enjoyed being entertained more with this one, and then the "Ka" one as it was dramatized.  Both good shows, but I could just sit and enjoy without wondering what's going on!  After the show at 11, we headed out for dinner.  We saw the fountains at the Billagio do their things, and then headed to New York, New York.  We enjoyed the scenery on the outside, Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, NYFD boats and skyscrapers, where people stay.  Then on the inside, it looked amazingly like a NY City street!  The stores were really what they advertised, and we enjoyed for dinner NY style pizza at a NY Pizzeria!  It was fun.  After dinner we had to ride the roller coaster, "Manhattan Express."  Although overpriced, it was a lot of fun!  And so neat to the strip at night from there!  Then, after the ride we…ok, I watched a girl band play while Jeff played some slots or video poker.  That was fun.  We went back after the evening in NY.  If I had a choice of where to stay next time, it would be here.  There seemed like there was a lot going on and could keep you well entertained.

Friday, September 22, 2006.  We slept in once again (seeing a theme here…we're on vacation!)  Then we spent some time down in the Strat's Sports book.  Jeff bet some teams, and then we went our separate ways for a little while, so I could buy some souvenirs, and he could check out his bets and play some slots.  I put all the stuff in our room and got ready for Red Rock Canyon excursion we had planned.  So we left from downstairs and started the drive out.  We wanted to eat lunch on the way, and again looked for a subway.  I swear we could not find one subway in the 15 miles we drove!  We thought we would try this "Raising Canes" chicken finger place.  It turned out to be a great stop.  The chicken fingers were good, and the sweet tea was even better.  We loaded up on it!  Glad we ended up stopping there instead of subway.  So then it was a little further until the busy streets stopped and we turned onto the scenic drive.  We lucked out that the park had closed 15 minutes or so prior, so we got to get in for free, because Jeff wasn't ready to spend the $3 or $5 to go on the scenic drive.  Although once we were done I would have paid double or triple that.  The red rocks were just absolutely beautiful and there were plenty of places to pull off and do hiking.  I had wanted to do some real hiking, but Jeff wasn't that game, and in the end we would have had no time anyway.  We climbed and looked and enjoyed our time there and have many pictures to prove it!  We then headed down the road a ways from the scenic drive (which we were probably 15-20 miles on the scenic drive…so see worth the $5!) to Spring Mountain Ranch where every night they show a play during the summer.  It was a little chilly, so I being the good Girl Scout I am came prepared with my fleece jacket and Capri's.  However, as we walked in, Jeff dressed in his polo and shorts, the ladies said…oh you'll never make it through with out more clothes.  I considered buying Jeff a blanket or sweatshirt or something, but Jeff spent the last $20 of cash on the play.  I can't believe the cash we had got again that morning, was gone all ready!  Anyway, I was chilled, but Jeff froze through the first act of "Noises Off."  They did quite a good job.  I couldn't rub his legs or arms any longer so I made the decision to not have him suffer through a second act, although I was enjoying it.  I was just ready to head to bed, but as I figured Jeff couldn't let his last night in Vegas go without one last time on the strip.  We "had to stop to get money from the ATM" right by Palace Royale.  Jeff did finally buy me the ice cream I had waited for all week.  It was great, but I got so messy.  Also, during this time, the strip was closed right by where we were, and there were fire trucks and ambulances in the middle of Las Vegas Blvd.  So as my ice cream was dripping and I was eating it, we watched the commotion, in which we found out that there was a fire at the Venetian.  Just as I was finishing it up, the opened the cross walks that were blocked, and the nosey people we were went and checked it out.  And sure enough, there was a huge blackened part on the tour where flames had been burning it.  They were still working on it right in front of us, although there were no flames, only securing that it was put out.  So that's a way to go out of that crazy place.  I got one last $1 margarita from Casino Royale, and we went back to get a long night's rest at the Strat, starting after packing at midnight or so.

Saturday, September 23, 2006.  Well the alarm and wake up call went off at 4 something.  Like I said, good night's rest.  We showered, finished packing and headed out to return the car.  We took the shuttle straight to the airport, checked in and happened to be there quite early.  Better than late I guess.  I enjoyed a coke and sudoku before boarding the plane.  We brought all the pop tarts and granola bars, and didn't need a thing from the "cash bar."  We were done spending money!  We arrived safely in Lincoln, and just as we were landing we saw a stealth bomber out the window, from the annual Lincoln Air Show.  What a neat way to end our trip.  It kind of reminded me of our honeymoon, returning on the 4th of July and seeing fireworks over Chicago.  No first class this time though.  We got our baggage, got our car and headed to Grand Island, while enjoying for awhile the planes flying overhead.  We talked about our vacation, and for me I was ready to return to normalcy.  We showered, started laundry, found out Jeff passed his second part to the CPA exam, and enjoyed each other at home just as much as we did there.  Overall, it was a nice vacation and a great get-away for the two of us.

Saturday, September 16, 2006
Well it was going to be short and sweet until today's happenings.  But I will try to keep it down...as I should be dreaming of slot machines and cirque du soleil tonight!

Short: Boring week.  Jeff audited, I didn't feel great.  Weird day at work for me today, followed by covering in our shelter for Tornado warnings tonight.  Ready for Viva Las Vegas!

Long:
This week was rather uneventful.  Sunday night we had our fall kickoff for our young adult group and there was a ton of people there!  It was awesome!  So we've gone from 6 to maybe 12-15...should be great!

I scrapbooked some on Monday and otherwise just cried at all the 9/11 shows.  It hits me like the first time all over again.  Too sensitive as Jeff says.  Monday night we watched the Vikings get possibly their only win this season (let's see how closely Jeff reads these things...) while I cross-stitched.

Tuesday, Jeff left on an audit down in Franklin, NE that went through Thursday.  Meanwhile maybe it was love sickness from being away from each other (ok, ok, gag you with a spoon), but I wasn't feeling that great.  It could possibly be a new supplement I tried to help "lubricate my joints" to relieve my knee pain.  Anyways, it wasn't good--from stomach ache, to head aches to vertigo, not fun.  So for two nights straight, when I usually try to be uber productive, I spent lying on the couch.  However, the good outcome is that I discovered the wonderful world of HGTV!  There are so many fun shows, that give you projects in which you can do for cheap!  I love it!  I told Jeff, I may have found a match for ESPN...then maybe he'll notice how much ESPN he truly watches!  I think the coolest thing though, was the first show I watched was called design to sell, and then when on myspace the next day, there was a message from my friend Erik Diaz from High School who lives in Boston, saying he's helping to run the show, and the premiere episode would be in DC...which is the exact show that got me interested in the whole HGTV thing.  I will have to look for his name next time in the credits!  How cool is that though?

Then today I experienced something I never have before.  I don't want to get into all the details, but basically there is a big rope course event tomorrow (Sat) that we didn't realize would be a bid deal to staff (resignations, availability, etc.), and so back in April/May when we made reservations, my boss was thankful that I could hold out for my summer vacation until after all the craziness of camps and trips were over after August and said I should be good to go this week for Vegas.  Well another co-worker who's family volunteers out at the rope course, came into my office today and chewed me out for literally 10 minutes and made derogatory remarks about my boss allowing me to not be available tomorrow.  Of course, being the person I am, I responded back to her with reasoning and explanation of the situation with patience and a kind voice, but she just wouldn't have it.  I wasn't feeling too bad, because I know I did nothing wrong, and went through all proper channels, but I feel badly for my boss because she's taking it personally.  So it was a weird work day for sure.

Then Jeff came by the office after running a few errands and getting his hair cut and at 5 we ran over to walmart to pick up last few things.

We get home and I start unloading the dishwasher when the tornado sirens begin to sound.  We gathered items we may need to bring down with us.  Then once the wind started picking up, we went down in our shelter area.  It's kind of scary.  The craziest part was when the hail started coming down.  It sounded like hundreds of baseballs bouncing off the roof.  Once things settled down, Jeff went to check and brought a piece of hail back that was literally the size of a golf ball.  I had never seen one in person before!  Too bad I didn't bring my camera down in the shelter, so I could have captured a shot before it melted.  We were also grateful for having a garage for both cars, so we wouldn't have the dimpled look going on.  So what a whirlwind of a day, no pun intended!

Then we began packing around 8 and I feel pretty good about most things.  Just have to pack the cosmetics up tomorrow morning and then we're off.  Our flight leaves Lnk around 1 pm, so we'll have to leave here by 10 am.  Not too shabby!

We'll report in next Sunday!  Have a terrific week, and if we win the jackpot we'll share!

Short Version:  Good week.  We played a lot of tennis over labor day.  I over did it on exercise because I injured my knee a little.  We hired a new gal at work that I will be working with.  Jeff was at an audit close by this week.  We had a get together at our house Friday night for Girl Scout friends.  This weekend has been consumed with football, but we did get out a shop for awhile.  That's about it in a nut shell!

Extended of course:

Well we have had a fine week.  I guess I will start with Sunday afternoon.  We had the second round of our Labor Day open and Jeff won our 2 sets we played, but I may add after we split sets and went to a tie-breaker, that is where he won.  We hung out Sunday night, and then Monday we finished the tournament.  I was up for awhile in the pro-set, but Jeff came back to beat me 8-5 or so.  It must have been because I didn't wear red on the final day (little Tiger joke there for ya..).  We played one little game to 3 after the pro-set and I did win that, so we practically came out even.  We just grilled and played it cool for the rest of the evening.  It sure was a nice, relaxing weekend!  No regrets in that!

It was a little tough getting back to work on Tues.  I went in, thinking we had an interview, but they canceled, so Kathy had to make her decision based on those we did interview.  I encouraged her to verify with anyone she was thinking about offering it to, that they would be OK spending 3 or more nights consecutively away from home.  I was glad that Kathy did call one gal and mentioned it because I really wanted that to be clear and on the table, so we don't run into the same problem again.  So Tiffany starts on the 25th.  I started planning our southeast coast trip this week too for the latter part of July 2007.  I think places that we will visit will include: Kennedy Space Center, Disney World, Coke Museum (if it's done moving), Juliette Low House, Charleston (Sleep on aircraft carrier), Ft. Sumter and the battery, Myrtle Beach (maybe Medieval times), Biltmore House, Pisgah National Forest (sliding rock, in particular), Lowes Speedway, The new national whitewater venue in Charlotte, then Yorktown/Williamsburg/Jamestown with perhaps Busch Gardens, and Monticello.  There will be some places to stop along the way as well.  But, what do you think, southies?  Did I hit some of the major must-see spots?  The girls start signing up for the trip on Monday, so I'm excited to see how many are interested in going!

Jeff was on a local audit this week.  So we got home around the same time when I went to aerobics on Tues. which was nice.

Then Wednesday, Jeff convinced me to skip my Praise Band meeting at church, and to play tennis.  We went out and after the first game and did nothing more than limp around.  My left knee was clicking and hurting.  I made it through 5-7 games, but could not retrieve any balls outside of my 4 ft. radius.  I got home, iced it and called my mom.  So now I'm starting on Glucosemene (sp?) to hopefully help with my joints.  I'm not one that really enjoys exercising that much, so it really bugs me that when I'm trying hard to get in shape that this stuff happens...such is life I guess.  So I took a 5-day sabbatical from putting pressure on my knee and hope to start back to aerobics tomorrow.

Then Friday night, I had some people over that I know through Girl Scouts, and we had a fun time just sitting around a chatting.  I had made some hors d'oevres so we munched on and talked until about 11 PM.  It was fun though.  I think Jeff got a whole new lookout in regards to what I do and deal with at work.

Saturday we slept in and then got our picture taken at the church for the directory.  We will get a free 8 X 10 as well.  Then we did some shopping at Gordman's.  Jeff found some new dark brown shoes for casual wear.  We went over to the decorating area, and found a nice bowl, that you put decorative balls in it.  We picked up the bowl and Jeff said "So we should get this bowl, and then we should get a new coffee table and end tables!"  I just was flabbergasted!  Don't you usually get it the other way around.  I didn't know that the $10 bowl came with such expensive tastes!  It made me laugh.  We then went to Hob Lob and found a lamp to match the bowl w/ decorative balls.  Then went to Hastings and got some movies, then finished off at the mall in Best Buy and at the direct TV stand inquiring about DV-R.  So eventually that could become another expense every month.  Then last night Jeff watched football, I made slushies and wrote out invites to a party we're going to have around my birthday.  Then we watched Scary Movie 4--pretty good.  Then it was late so we hit the rack.

This morning we went to church and then to Walmart and then the football has begun.  I think I'll probably throw in a tape and scrapbook for awhile today.  Jeff mentioned we may go coffee table shopping.  Then tonight we have the Fall Kickoff for our young adult group.  Hopefully some new couples will join in!

I think I will not be going into work tomorrow.  Then Jeff will be gone Tu-Th.

So have a great week and hopefully you are enjoying the cooler temps!

Shorter version:  Fine week...Jeff audited in CO and worked a lot of hours.  I didn't work a lot this week because of my camp last weekend.  This weekend we've ran errands, played tennis, ate chinese and went to church.  Not too shabby!

Short version (See it's shorter than most weeks!):

Can you believe we've managed to stay home for an entire 3-day weekend?  I know it's hard to believe.

Jeff worked real hard this week out in Colorado.  They would get up before 6 am, and work until 8:30-9 at night.  So he was really pulling long hours and I know was just countin down the days until the weekend.

I on the other hand, did not pull any long hours really.  I was off M and F and worked a full day Wednesday due to interviews we had scheduled for the other program position and worked half days Tu and Th.  So, I've really been getting some things done around the house to include scrapbooking, cross-stitching, catching up on countdown shows and what about jim?, cleaning and taking care of general household business.  So it's good in that respect.

So this weekend, I guess on Friday, Jeff went to bed early after a nice spaghetti dinner, while I played on the computer for awhile...found some old elem' friends on myspace and tried to beat Jeff's high score on pop and drop.

Then Saturday, we slept in, ate lunch at the chinese buffet, which was fine, then went grocery shopping and to Sam's club.  We watched a little bit of the husker game as we both ended up taking a nap during it.  Then we continued errands and went to Hob Lob (a spent only 52 cents....a record I'm sure), to Dollar Tree to exchange something, etc.  Then we ran home to get changed so we could play tennis.  Let's just say Jeff went down, 8-5 in a pro-set, and he wasn't too happy about it.  It was nice to beat him again.  Let's see if I can hold out today, when we play again this afternoon.  We had icecream for Kokonut Joe's after that, went in the hot tub and I scrapbooked for the majority of the evening.

This morning was church, and wished our pastor get well greetings from her west nile outbreak.  We also got clued into our expectations of being youth sponsers, and it sounds like it will be very easy to work with.  Then we just got up from a nap not too long ago.  So evidently a relaxing weekend we are enjoying.

Jeff is on an audit close by this week, so that'll be nice.  I have aerobics Tu and Th.  I also have the first praise team meeting on Wed. and first key club meeting of the year on Thurs.  So things are picking up as school starts, and we don't even have kids!

Well, hope you all are enjoying your weekend and have a great short week to follow!

Gina :) and Jeppers

Short: It was a fine week, and my camp went well this weekend, and Jeff enjoyed his time in Omaha.  Oh and Scott, we made the sandwich pies in the sandwich makers over the campfire and they were oh-so delicious!!!  Thanks for the idea!

Long:It's hard to believe how the summer has just flown by, and now gone from over 100 degrees, to being sitting in the low 70s during the day.

Well, last week Jeff was around in the evenings which was nice and I made it to aerobics twice.  We played some cribbage and went for walks, and played it kind of low key, since we both had busy weeks, with Jeff auditing in St. Paul and myself finishing up on my program flier and preparing for a camp.

On Friday, we found out the Cherie our program registrar was resigning, so in one year, we will have had a entire new program team!  Crazy stuff!

Jeff left on Friday for Omaha.  From what he's told me, he and Tim went to a  Japanese restaurant, where he tried something similar to Sesame Chicken, in which they met up with Nick and Tracey there as well.  Then later on they went to the casino for a little bit.  Tim and Jeff got up early to play golf, then went to Wal-mart and Dick's sporting goods before heading to Fremont for Nick's party.  At Nick's party, they had rented out the rec room at their apartment, so played pool and Foosball, etc.  Then later on went upstairs to play some Texas.  I think Jeff was $30 ahead or so for the weekend.  I try to block the winnings and losings, so not real sure but know he was ahead.  Then Tim, Nick and Jeff played golf at Whitetail on Sunday morning.  He said he saw Scott Majerus there, with Wisconsin plates on his escalade..so must be in town visiting his bowling buddies.  He got home close to 3 PM.

Then my weekend started at noon on Friday, getting everything ready and bought for camp.  The 40 girls and 15 leaders made their way out to GI, and we set up tents, made nachos over the propane burners, had a campfire and went to bed...well they went to bed, we stayed up until 2:30.  Bright and early on Saturday we made breakfast and sent out the volunteers on their assignments, canoeing, crafts and I along with a few other people managed the rope course all day.  We had a few "rescues" which always makes it exciting.  Then after this we had dinner at the Lodge, and then I started my caravan of girls down to the NOAA Weather Center in Hastings for them to earn their weather watch badge.  I spent from 6-10 pm shuttling.  I came back and we started at the campfire making s'mores.  Everyone was so tired that the campfire didn't last all that long.  We went back to the lodge to clean up and chit-chat.  Sunday morning was packing up, evaluating the event and getting them on their way.  That was good, because I was whooped!  We cleaned up for four hours and then I headed home at 2:30.  I love being out at camp, but I'm growing to appreciate going to other places, because there is a minimal clean up factor.  Oh and we lucked out with no rain...otherwise we would have had some unhappy campers sleeping out in the tents.  So yea for that!

So we were both home, and we took showers and took a nap.  I could have slept for the whole night, but Jeff got me up and we went out for dinner at Carlos O'Kelly's.  Then we headed over to Ryan and Megan's house where we were meeting for Frisbee Golf with TNT (Twenties and Thirties group at church).  It was probably the funniest thing anyone ever saw.  It took most of us about 10 shots to make it to the hole.  We were chipping bark off trees with the Frisbees and letting the serious players play through.  We stopped after hole 4 as there was a storm coming through.  We discussed the Fall Kickoff at their house for a little bit and went home.  We played some cribbage again, watched a little TV and went to bed.

Monday, Jeff went into work for a half day and since I had the day off, he came home and we watched the movie, She's the Man.  We played some cribbage, he packed, and I dropped him off at the gas station for his co-workers to pick him up around 6 PM.  He is in Colorado on an audit this week.  It was nice spending the afternoon together though, since he won't be here all week.

I worked a half day today, and will work a full day tomorrow since we have interviews for the Program position.  Then half a day Thursday and off Friday.  I rake in a lot of hours with these camps I guess.

Then, we are excited to announce that we have no plans for the first time on a three day weekend!  We usually travel or have someone over, but we are excited to rest up and do a whole lot of nothing!  Well we do have a few exciting plans (that was sarcastic since you can't hear my voice), such as eating at the Chinese Buffet for Sat. lunch, and playing tennis together for the first time this whole summer!  Otherwise I'm sure there will be movies rented and games played!

Well, I think that's all...hopefully I will have made progress in the scrapbook before the weekly e-mail next week!

Take care,
Gina :) and Jeff the mountain man

Current mood:Clever

So, for the short version...we had a fine week, more car trouble as to be expected!  But got it all straightened out and fought for my money....as to be expected!  Then we had a fabulous time in Chicago at the tournament.  We really enjoyed our quick visit downtown as well!  Well, I better get on with the long version!

So we had a wonderful start to the week.  I went to bed way to late on Sunday night...after Jeff said, "are you coming to bed???"  So I followed him, and was glad when his alarm went off that it wasn't me having to get up...or so I thought.  Jeff calls me from the kitchen after he had been out in the garage for a minute.  The Sonata wouldn't start.  We jumped it, and all was well, until he went down the driveway and turned his lights on and the dern' thing shut off.  So he had me drive him to Aurora, so he could leave for Pawnee City from there...I don't think I mentioned, that Jeff was leaving the house at 5:30 AM.  So I got to watch the sunrise on my way back to GI.  I go into the garage and start the car again.  I drive it around town for a half an hour to charge the battery.  Then for the true test I pull it in the garage and turn the lights off.  Sure enough, it shuts off again.  So I begin to charge it for the third time to get it started to get it somewhere.  While it's charging I make a phone call and the guy guesses it's the altenator.  I get ready and try to start the car and not a sound.  So great, the next call I have to make it to AAA for a tow truck.  They say they'll be there within the hour, and an hour and five minutes later he shows up.  We haul it to Graham Tire to get tested (see if it's in fact the altenator, the battery or starter).  I call in the afternoon and they still hadn't run the test.  They call back later in the afternoon and tell me it's the battery, so they said it was ready and I could pick it up.  I get to the place, and the guy rings me up....$130!!!!  I literally said in a firm voice..."for a battery??????"  I got my AAA discount, finishing it at $117!!  Then they explain that the battery only costed $90 and the other was for labor, etc.  I left one unhappy camper.  To finish this saga...I end up picking up my battery and taking it back to Walmart after finding the receipt from 3 years ago...props to me and my hours of chronilogical file last week, and end up getting $32 of my $40 battery back.  Not to bad paying $8 for use of a battery.  I go in on Friday to Graham's and tell the service manager who returned from vacation that day, that I was unhappy being charged that much...more than double the price of the last battery I put in.  He offered for me to buy a battery somewhere else, and he would install my new one and take out his battery...I said deal.  So I truck over to Sam's Club and buy a 3 yr. replacement and 8 year prorate battery for $45 including tax!!!!  Compared to the immaculate $90 battery that had a 2 yr. replacement and 6 yr. prorate gaurentee.  I ended up getting refunded $100 from Graham's and overall we spent less than $30 for this whole ordeal.  Sounds a lot better than $130!!!!!  So that's the whole week in a nutshell...many hours working on the car!

I did quite a bit of cross-stitching while I was home, and Jeff was gone through Thurs.  I had good intentions of scrapbooking, but was just exhausted after aerobics and all the car stuff...it was nice to veg on the couch.  Then, Wed. I kind of had plenty of time to scrapbook, but then became a number and joined the oh-so wonderful Myspace.  So now I'm a junky just like everyone else.  It's been fun finding some friends from Phelps Luck Elementary, and Lutheridge and HS and Midland.  It's interesting!

Then Thursday, I picked up Jeff in Aurora and headed to Aerobics.  Came home and packed some for our weekend trip.  I encouraged Jeff in his home stretch of studying for the CPA exam he would take in the morning.

Friday morning, Jeff got up and headed to take the exam (we should find out results in Sept), while I finished up the car stuff I mentioned earlier.  He got home and we packed up the car and left on our way to Chicago.  We arrived at the Grandma and Grandpa Lack's around 8:30.  So didn't do too bad with leaving at 11:30.  We visited with Jeff's grandparents and Nancy and Glenn when he arrived.

Saturday was too early of a morning...5 AM.  Then we got ready and we were out the door by 6 to pick up something quick from McDonald's and then head to a shuttle stop for the PGA Championship at Medinah Country Club.  We waited on the bus for a little while, and then they took us to the course.  There was so much they had to do to get ready for this tournament, and hopefully if I'm creative enough in a minute I can tell all that I learned.  We still had some time until the first tee time, so we walked around a little bit and watched a few people putt.  We watched the first few tee off, and began to follow one two-some.  Joey Singular (sp??) hit one to the left into the trees, which ended up landing close to us, so we joined the other close people to watch him up close and personal (from 3-5 ft.) hit it towards the green.  The official asked Joey if people in the group were in his way and if he wanted them to move.  He responded with "Well, that's up to them!"  We all got a good chuckle out of that.  We watched another group tee off from the green and followed them for a little bit.  We went forward to Joey's group on the 5th hole, and watched from a distance Joey's double eagle.  Boy was everyone cheering and high-fiving.  It was neat after just being near him a few holes back.  So then on the next hole we watched him tee off and he had to tee off first, and while getting in position he said "Well, I've never had to tee off after a double eagle before, lots of pressure!"  He was a nice guy.

After this we found some seats at the first hole and watched everyone tee off.  Probably my most anticipated was Phil Mickelson.  He really seemed like the nice guy they say he is.  We saw Sergio Garcia, Ernie Els, and all the guys.  After Phil, we did take a lunch break and pay an obsene amount of course.  Then Brad and his friend Kevin, Jeff and I waited for a spot in the stands so we could watch Tiger tee off.  Boy did the stands clear out after Tiger drove the ball down the fairway.  We joined the crowd, and made our way to the 18th hole, to join Jeff's parents and grandparents.  Then we watched every group come in starting at about 11, and finishing through 35.  We spent a good amount of time there.  Jeff had to point out to me when he teed off, Jason Gore, who I guess won an Omaha tournament...and boy is he a big boy.  With his white shirt he resembled a marshmallow.  So when he came in at 18, I proceeded to call him Jason S'more.  He even hit one off in the woods at 18, and Johnny said he probably went to roast a marshmallow in the forest.  We had some good laughs with the Marshmallow Man.  Tiger and Luke Donald were dead even at the end of the day, but as you probably heard Tiger made it to -18 and won the tournament.  We went into the overpriced store and bought Jeff a commemorative pilsner and shot glass for his collection.  I think he's glad he got them, and it was sure special to be there.

So onto my things I was surprised about and that I learned about golf this weekend:

1.  Golfers are short.  Tiger always looks huge on tv, and he's one of the tallest at like 5'9" or 5'10".  So I told Jeff if our kids would go pro in a sport, they would probably end up being a golfer or jockey...we'll let them decide.

2.  It takes the golfer like literally over a minute sometimes to get their feet in the right position.

3.  There is no Shooter McGavin on this pro-tour.

4.  That golfers should refrain from wearing white polos when they have a husky body style...they would hate to be mistaken for marshmallows.

5.  That the US golfers look normal in their clothes, but all others (European, Australian and Japanese golfers) wear really tight clothing.  Jeff concluded that this was because Americans are fat.

6.  It's hard work keeping up with the golfers.  You don't have a straight line to follow to the ball as they do.  My arm hurts from Jeff dragging me from hole to hole.

7.  The golfers seem to be really nice people.  I didn't hear one person cuss, or take someone out as they do much of the time in hockey.

8.  Caddy's have huge calves.  Every caddy was in better shape than the golfer they represented.

9.  Some of those guys are so young looking.  Any of my single friends, should be going there to meet their future husbands!!!

10.  Girls are allowed to pee in boy port-o-potty's

11. A Chicago hot dog has a dill pickle, onion, tomato and jalapeno peppers on them.

12. For real, I learned the holes change positions from day to day.  I thought they were always in the space that you saw them day after day.  I said to Grandma, well they should have known that their ball would roll short, from playing yesterday.  They laughed for a minute and then explained that it changes.

13.  That I should expect to see a double eagle at every tournament I visit in the future as they are quite easy to come by.

14.  For some reason, after 18 they had to bend over and pick up their ball from the hole.  It doesn't get swallowed up and stored in a ball bin under the ground. (jeff requested this one in bold)

15.  Golfers wear pants, caddy's wear shorts.

16.  Tiger requested that they weld a hockey player and remove the goofy golf guy from his trophy.

17.  No cameras or cell phones were allowed on the course, thankfully I didn't learn this the hard way.  No memories to scrapbook except my official pairings and starting times pamphlet!

18.  That no one was in the kitchen with Medinah.

19.  Tiger is sooo rich that he was the only player that could afford to drive a buick.

20.  Phil Mickelson does not like to be referred to as Philly Cheese Steak.

So, as you can see this was quite an educational experience for me, and I learned a great deal.

I know it's hard to read more after that beautiful list work.  So we got home from the tournament, to find Bradley and his suit case on the door step after being dropped off.  We all went in a dinner started cooking.  We were treated with Pasties from the UP...yum!!!  We all went to bed fairly early and Jeff and I slept in a little while, while the Wiitanen's took Brad to the airport.  We had a great breakfast, the guys headed to golf themselves, using some of the helpful tips above I'm sure.  The three of us gals headed to Long Grove for some shopping.  I made out with a Turkey figurine, Thanksgiving plates for my plate rack and a lettuce cutting knife.  I didn't do too much damage.  There was also an art show going on and there were some absolutely beautiful landscapes, drawn, oil, photo, etc.  It was so great to see everyone's talent, and wishing I had only an ounce of it!

We headed back to Arlington Heights for a nice lunch with our crew that was all ready present, and then Jonathan & Janice and Amanda & Jessica.  The girls and I figured up a really good trick to get Jeff wrapped up like a taco.  It was great fun!  After Nancy and Glenn left, and then the Lack's, Grandma and Grandpa took us downtown to see Chicago's Millinium Park.  They were building when we did taste for our honeymoon, so it was surely neat to see it all.  We really enjoyed the bean, seeing the theater, walking through the garden and the coolest was watching the kiddies in the faces fountain, and watching the faces "spit" on the kids.  See the picture I'll attach to the next e-mail.  I really enjoy being downtown.  Then we took the scenic route home, ate a snack upon returning to their home and went to bed soon after.

We got up Monday morning, ate a nice breakfast and then headed down the road back to Grand Island.  We really had to take a potty break in Lincoln, so I stopped at the Cheerwine gas station again, and we got some big gulps to keep in the fridge.  We got home at 6:30, started some laundry and didn't do too much else.

Work is fine this week.  I'm really having to pull everything together for the program flier, which is good.  Then I have more than I expected to get ready for my camp this weekend, as my weather tours were canceled for Friday night as a storm's coming in...which leads to the other problem....a storm is coming in.  So I'll have to work on that stuff tomorrow.

Jeff is working on a hospital in St. Paul this week, so it's nice to have him home every night, and they are nice enough to pick him up which saves on gas...since it's not at $2.57 like it was in Des Moines this weekend...although $2.76 is much better than $2.99!

We heard tonight that Grandpa Lack had to go in the hospital again with blood clots, and he should be out in the morning, but any prayers for him would be much appreciated!  Crazy that it happened so quick after seeing him yesterday.  We hope you feel well soon!!!!

Then for the weekend, Jeff will be heading to Omaha after work on Friday to hang out with Tim and the two of them plan to golf on Saturday and then head to Nick's party he's having.  Meanwhile I'll be dodging the storms and trying to keep everyone happy out at camp.  They check-in at 4 PM Friday, and leave at 10 AM Sun.  Should be pretty fun, and I have great help, so it'll be good.

OK, this is enough, I will let you go now!

Have a good week!

Love,

Gina :) and Jeff Woods (didn't you know we're relatives of Tiger's???)
