Welcome to Mutant Pop

Patrice Bäumel, born in 1975 in Dresden/Germany and Amsterdam resident
since 1996, has been exposed to music since a very early age. With
his father being a jazz journalist and avid record collector it was
quite natural for him to develop a love for all things musical. Free
jazz, Frank Zappa or Captain Beefheart were part of the daily menu.
Until today that love has grown into something bigger, it was only a
question of time for Patrice to get involved and shape his own
musical universe.

Fast forward to today and what once was a hobby has grown into a way of
life and profession. High profile productions for labels like Trapez,
Get Physical, Studio !K7, My Best Friend or Systematic and gigs around the globe
are testament for a continuing path of musical growth, desire to
share a musical vision with the rest of the world and be part of this
crazy little universe that electronic dance music is today. Patrice's
music is all about contrast. Abstract machine music with a human
touch, dynamics reaching from calm hypnosis to extatic mayhem, always
supported by an elastic groove.

While Patrice has been actively djing since 1994, his production carreer
started much later in 2005 with the release of his first single on
Trapez Records, “Mutant Pop”. After a string of successful
releases, his real breakthrough came in 2008 with his genre-bending
debut on Get Physical, “Roar”, a record that was different from
anything else out there and went on to become a global success that
dominated the entire festival season, gaining support from a long
list of dj's that reads like the who-is-who of modern house music. A
record that shat all over the techno rulebook with the notable
absence of a kickdrum. Reactions were strong, both positive and
negative. What was blasphemy to some was a long-needed breath of
fresh air to others.

The risk paid off. His dj and production carreer has taken on global
proportions, a journey that has taken Patrice from Brazil to
Australia, from Moscow to Manchester, playing reputable festivals
like Sonar or clubs like Panoramabar. His Resident Advisor podcast
(RA115) from August 2008 has shown the world his genre-bending
approach to djing. He has become an in-demand remixer, providing a
personal touch to tracks by acts like Booka Shade, Dirt Crew or Marc
Romboy.

As an integral part of the thriving Dutch techno scene, Patrice is
a resident dj of Amsterdam's premier club, “Trouw”. Together with
musical partner Nuno Dos Santos he is running his highly successful
“360” nights and taking their forward-thinking concept on the
road as dj duo “360”.

The desire to create and help push electronic dance music forward is
strong, expect a lot more to come from this artist.
