we have moved the song "House of Humperdink" to www.myspace.com/siroliverhumperdink , please visit!
The song "House of Humperdink" by Johnny G Lyon & JGLB was written in 1987. It is a tribute to the great Sir Oliver Humperdink and his associates. Sir Oliver Humperdink is currently living well in Minneapolis. There's a lot of great info on the web about him. I like http://nwalegends.com/fanfestforum/YaBB.pl?board=SOH.
Johnny G Lyon & JGLB performed this song live at Malio's in 1987. It was videotaped, and the video was featured on the "Southern Professional Wrestling" television show some time that same year. Performing on that 1987 version were drummer Ray Blade, saxophonist Thor Stevens, keyboardist and vocalist Penny Robinson, bassist Max Van Laundromax, and Johnny G Lyon on lead vocals and guitar. A photo was taken that night, of the late great Ed "The Bull" Gantner, Johnny G Lyon, Sir Oliver Humperdink, the late great Ray Candy aka Kareem Muhammed, and a very beautiful lady. That picture, taken by Jefferson Dorsey, is featured here on this myspace site, in association with the song.
The version here was recorded at Hitmakers, some time in 1997 or 98. It was engineered by Phil A Delphia and produced by Phil and Johnny. It features Ray Blade on drums, Thor Stevens on saxes, and Johnny G Lyon on vocals, guitar, bass and piano. There are also backup vocals, possibly by semi-anonymous neighbors. The version here: flat out kicks ass.
JGLB began including the song in their live performances in 1987, and they still play it today. There are other videos of JGLB performing the song, most particularly on the TV show "Professional Wrestling From Florida," which was broadcast in the late 80's. Also notable: in the second line of the lyrics, there is a reference to "Solie," the late great Dean of Wrestling Broadcasters, Gordon Solie. The song is dedicated to the memory of Gordon Solie, Ed Gantner and Ray Candy.
