Mauricia Grant, an African-American technical inspector for NASCAR's Nationwide Series, has filed a $225 million lawsuit against the racing giant, alleging 23 incidents of sexual harassment and 34 incidents of racial and gender discrimination during her time of employment. Grant claims her October 2007 termination was in retaliation for her persistent complaints about the way she was treated on the job from her January 2005 hiring. On Friday, two Nationwide officials, Tim Knox and Bud Moore, were placed on indefinite administrative paid leave for their part in the ongoing lawsuit. David Lemieux didn't grow up wanting to be a cop, he grew up running from the cops. As a black child on the south side of Chicago, Lemieux learned early on that the police were the enemy. He carried this attitude into adulthood, when he was a member of the Black Panther party. As the 70s wore on, Lemieux came to be convinced that the way to turn the relationship between the Police and his People around was to become a cop himself. In this film by MaseQua Myers, Homicide Detective Lemieux speaks candidly about such topics as Kids and Violence, the Other Court (for white people), Racism on the force, The Spirit of the Law vs. The Letter of the Law, Police Brutality and Police Apathy.

They called him the Originator. Why? Well, in that sticky period of time when Country and Blues were making a baby called RockNRoll, Mr. Diddley was right there. Hell, the mattress may have been squeakin' to the Bo Diddley Beat! He was born Ellas Bates in McComb, Mississippi in 1928 and later adopted the stage name Bo Diddley after seeing John Lee Hooker onstage. While Bo Diddely was a master guitar player, his songs were all about the rhythm, that famous Bo Diddley beat appropriated soon after by Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and later the Rolling Stones. Rhythm is so important in Bo Diddley's music that harmony was often reduced to a bare minimum. His most famous song, "Who Do You Love?" has no chord changes, it's all about the beat. Hip hop artists would rediscover this many years later: when they were trying to catch the break, all they were doing was replicating the Bo Diddley beat. Bo Diddley was truly the Originator, possibly the real father of RockNRoll, and his kind won't be seen again. Mr. Diddley, you will be missed.
