Third
installment of our cooler than cool 'French do it better' mini fest.
Compared with the previous editions (April '08 and '09) the electro /
pop will this time less clearly be present. Instead of Bordeaux and
Paris, we now take a deep dive into the underground of the northeast
of Amiens, Strasbourg and Metz (known as key locations of the
so-called 'La Grande Triple Alliance Internationale De L'Est') - an
axis of evil filled to the brim with uncompromising lo-fi (weird)
punk, R'n'R, and no wave bands. DJ-lubricant between the acts this
evening: Dj Albanie.

MAHO THAIDISCO
WORM
- Achterhaven 148, Rotterdam
doors:

This
Japanese package could not be better. The extravagant music of worm
favorite Oorutaichi is both experimental as resolutely pop. Yuichi's
absurdist variety show is a fusion of cabaret, chanson,
toothache-sweet easy tune and video. Shabushabu performs a spicy mix
of frivolous electronics, quirky hip hop, J-pop and traditional
Japanese music. Shabushabu is sidekicked by Maho Thai Disco who got
people dancing in the worm bar before and was the mini-hit of the
zxzw / incubate fest 2008.
OORUTAICHI
Oorutaichi
makes drifter music, strung together with expert percussion and
electric rays, flowing on a river of magical chants, inspired loops
and choruses. It is exalted and resolutely pop. Onstage, Oorutaichi
is not chained to his machines but sings with them in a deluge of
extravagance and colour. His first album "Yori Yoyo" (2003)
was released to much acclaim by Yamatsuka Eye (Boredoms), Juana
Molina and others.
KISHINO
YUICHI
Kishino
Yuichi is no stranger in Rotterdam. The people that witnessed
Kishino's loveable Dadaist universe in May 2008 will smile
approvingly upon hearing about his return. His ‘La veuve moustache’
show is an highly entertaining collection of cabaret, song,
toothache-sweet easy-tune and video. The video images – fragments
from Japanese movies – are closely related to Yuichi’s texts and
form a theatrical backdrop for his performance. Dressed as a widow,
Yuichi and his moustache are provided musical support by pianist Yoko
Miura.
SHABUSHABU
With
an album title as ‘All in one Pot’, one might have certain
expectations: performer Shabushabu produces obstinate and frivolous
sounds. A spicy mix of electronica, hiphop, J-pop and traditional
Japanese music. Shabushabu from Kyoto plays for sure in the same
league as underground heroes such as Ove-naxx and Oorutaichi (with
whom Shabushabu collaborates under the name ‘Obakejaa’).
MAHO
THAIDISCO
“She
was shocked by THAIDISCO in 2002 tropical summer, they really express
Asian good-naturedly chaotic sound well in their music, since then
she started to spin Thailand original techno music as
MAHO+THAIDISCO.Gradually, she wanted to express her own sounds in her
inside. Now instead of being limited to existing THAIDISCO sounds,
she creates her own techno sound ,named"ZUNPPA TECHNO",
(=ZUNPPA taken from, ?zunzun pappa?one of the words when Japanese
people express the rhythm)-Thus, she has progressed through many
stages, you can't miss her ever-lasting energisch sounds!!!!!”

comparisons to contemporaries Dirty Projectors and Animal Collective
are maybe quickly made, Skeletons is a separate musical entity of

guitars, a dash of pop and Timbaland's pots and pans – like
percussion. With approval sign from Ghostly International and Tomlab.
Concert of the month?
After
the Live show of Skeletons there will be an extra set by Room 5.22; a

The best
live band from the UK? Part Chimp's, recently on Mogwai's label
released, "Thriller" has little to do with the Ersatz
necrophilia about Jackson. It is a massive rocking record, urgent,
explosive, ultra phat and perfect for those moments when you have had
it with musical hairsplitting.

LOS SIQUICOS LITORALEÑOS (ar) worm tour & residency SEPTEMBER 2009From the outland countryside surrounding the small town Curuzú Cuatiá in the province Corrientes of North East Argentina, comes a exceedingly rare treat for the ears. Los Siquicos Litoraleños is a unique band formed in 2004. Originally an all improvisational freeform band, their music soon developed into an unclassifiable, highly original style incorporating elements of cumbia, subtle noise, lo-fi tape manipulation, chamamé (the popular folk music of Corrientes), the angular guitars of Beefheart's Magic band and a rich variety of non-rock rhythms. Being a peripheral band living in a semi rural town they remained outsiders to the argentinian rock circuit, even though concerts in Buenos Aires caused a stir amongst local musicians witnessing their often unpredictable shows. These more often than not included extended line ups, performing segments of free music and altered versions of chamame and cumbia tunes from the gaucho dance bands of Curuzu Cuatia. Los Siquicos' sweltering Live shows also display a crucial visual side - the members cloaked in surreal gaucho costumes whilst psychedelic images of cows, fractals, u.f.o..s and the countryside provide a projected backdrop. Locals therefore lovingly dubbed Los Siquicos as 'El Pink Floyd de los pobres' (a poor man's Pink Floyd). Although their cd-r discography still remains buried in obscurity, the band is rapidly harvesting international acclaim. Amongst their admirers are also the Sublime Frequencies label staff.
doorgecomponeerde, technische muziek ala Orthrelm, Hella, Nelse
Cline, Ahleuchatistas.
Upsilon
Acrux is an LA based instrumental quintet (dual guitars, keyboards,
bass and drums). Their music is not easy to describe but attempts to
do so regard it as technically brilliant, rhythmically unbelievable,
with just the right amount of melody.

From the outland countryside surrounding the small town Curuzú Cuatiá in the Province Corrientes of North East Argentina, comes a exceedingly rare treat for the ears.
Los Siquicos Litoraleños is a unique band formed in 2004. Originally an all improvisational freeform band, their music soon developed into an unclassifiable, highly original style incorporating elements of cumbia, subtle noise, lo-fi tape manipulation, South American folk, chamamé (the popular music of Corrientes), the angular guitars of Beefheart's Magic band and a rich variety of non-rock rhythms.
Being a peripherial band living in a semi rural town they remained outsiders to the argentinian rock circuit, even though concerts in Buenos Aires caused a stir amongst local musicians witnessing their often unpredictable shows. These more often than not included extended line ups, performing segments of free music and altered versions of chamame and cumbia tunes from the gaucho dance bands of Curuzu Cuatia. MONDAY, JUNE 1:
- LIGHTNING BOLT (us) - MUDBOY (us)
WORM - Achterhaven 148, Rotterdam doors: 21:00 damage: 10 euro http://agenda.wormweb.nl/agenda.php?id=2565..Almost five years after their first performance at Worm (http://www.kindamuzik.net/live/lightning-bolt/monno-lightning-bolt) can Lightning BOLT still be seen as one of the most exciting Live bands on the planet. Nothing needs to be added here. Mudboy originates from the creative hub of Providence, Rhode Island where he together with LB worked out of the famous Fort Thunder. Inspired by the early minimalists like Terry Riley and Dub he creates drone-like nocturnes with (self build) keyboards, effects and voice which contrast with the craziness of LB. http://laserbeast.com/ http://www.myspace.com/laserbeast http://www.myspace.com/ilikedtheoldinternetbetter http://www.mudboymusic.com/ http://www.kindamuzik.net/live/lightning-bolt/monno-lightning-bolt
