COSEY TO TALK AT TATE SYMPOSIUM - Oct 10th

Cosey will be taking part in the Symposia 'Good Business is the Best Art' on Saturday 10th October

Good Business is the Best Art
Saturday 10 October 2009, 11.00–17.00
Taking Andy Warhol's notorious provocation as a starting point, this short symposium explores in greater depth some of the issues raised by our current exhibition Pop Life: Art in a Material World.

We extend the discussion to the relationships between art and business and explore artists' strategies and the status of the work of art in an age of mass production. Speakers include Iain Robertson, deputy academic director and head of art business studies at Sotheby's Institute of Art, Cosey Fanni Tutti, artist,Catherine Wood, Tate Modern, curator of Pop Life: Art in a Material World, Jaime Stapleton, associate research fellow of the School of Law, Birkbeck College, University of London, and Marek Claassen, director of Artfacts. These speakers will approach the complex interactions between artists and commerce in contemporary life from a range of critical perspectives.

Tate Modern - Starr Auditorium £15 (£12 concessions), booking recommended. For tickets book online or call 020 7887 8888

Massage from Chris Carter:

I've recently deleted all my photos from my main site (www.chriscarter.co.uk) and moved most of them onto my Flikr pages.

I have had a Flikr site for a year or so and any photos (or videos) I wish to share have lately been posted straight onto it, and viewers can leave comments (unlike here), so it didn't make sense having my photos spread across two sites any longer. I still haven't moved some of the travel, international and architectural images, but I will as soon as I get the time.

You don't need a Flikr account to view my photos but without a Flickr account you cannot leave comments, send me messages or access my fetish & bondage photo sets, which are tagged as 'restricted' by Flikr. Also if you wish to view my 'restricted' images and you have a Flikr account you may need to reset your preferences. My 'restricted' images are also not accessible if you are located in Singapore, Hong Kong, Germany or Korea: sorry, It's not my fault, that's just how Flikr works.

I can tell from my Flikr stats figures that a lot of people are viewing my photos (another good reason for moving my images from my main site), this includes the 'restricted' fetish & bondage sets, which is only to be expected I guess but PLEASE do not berate me for using Flikr as I'm happy using it (and I don't care what you experience is with it) and don't ask me to host my' images ('restricted or otherwise) on another 'photo sharing' site or MySpace (way too much hard work) or to send copies to you by email as I don't (or will ever) have the time.

Anyway I hope you enjoy them...

The only (and as far as we know the last) surviving original Gristleizer died today, it was Cosey's own model from 1977. Cosey and me (Chris) were about to start running some LFO test on it for Charles Howes, who is designing and making the new Gristleizer reproductions, when it spluttered and stopped working. No amount of coaxing, fiddling, tweaking, encouragement and new batteries would revive it. Pretty good going for a 32 year old hand-made unit but a sad day nevertheless...

Condolences and/or comments for Cosey's departed Gristleizer can be left here:

OK so I've succumbed to more technological doodabbery, namely Twitter. Honestly I'm not sure how long I will be able to keep up a constant, or even steady stream of Twits (is that the right terminology?) but I should be able to post a few a day (is that too hopeful? probably).
As I'm mostly tied up with Throbbing Gristle and Cosey FT related activities from now until we leave for the States most of my Twits (?) will be focused those activities.

Feel free to follow me here: http://twitter.com/chris_carter_
