For those of you who are familiar with BoomBox, you're already excited.  For those of you who aren't, the time has come!

Featured in back to back late night sets at the recent Rothbury Festival, BoomBox is a rare treat...

BoomBox is producer/DJ Russ Randolph and singer/songwriter/guitarist Zion Rock Godchaux. This pair of dynamic artists uses their rich musical history and their vision of music and popular culture to deliver a style of music distinctly different from anything heard or seen in music today. This signature sound and show brings live music to a new, elevated level. BoomBox evolved through the common visualization of a pair of forward thinking artists from diverse musical backgrounds. Raised by supportive and musically inclined parents, both Godchaux and Randolph had an obsession with music at very young ages. Godchaux, who grew up with deeply embedded rock and roll roots, began playing drums at the age of two, and played guitar and wrote his own songs as a teen. During the 90s, Godchaux was a well-received touring DJ based out of the San Francisco area. Randolph began as a young drummer, but it's what was happening behind the scenes that attracted him most. As much producers as they are musicians, it is Randolph's understanding of soundscape and Godchaux's knack for songwriting that keeps BoomBox resonating at higher levels.

Founders Fest: A Celebration of Beer & Music

(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich) – Founders Brewing Company, 235 Grandville Avenue SW in downtown Grand Rapids, has finally received all necessary city and state permits to host its first ever outdoor beer and music festival.

Founders Fest
will be held from 3-11pm on Saturday, June 21, when the street (Grandville Avenue between Williams and Barlett) will be blocked and the grounds of the brewery secured for a day of beer, local food and music.

"We're all very excited!" says Mark Dorich, Founders General Manager. "It's been a long time coming – this festival has been in the making for many years."

Founders Fest
is a celebratory "thank you" to Grand Rapids and West Michigan for making Founders what it is today. Founders Brewing Company has been a part of the Grand Rapids scene since 1997 and has grown its brewing tradition from its modest beginnings to most recently being rated the 7th best brewery in the world.

"We have become Grand Rapids brewery and are honored to be so," says Mike Stevens, Founders President.

Founders Fest
will feature seven local and regional bands, of varying genres. Music will start on center stage at 3:00 pm, featuring Grand Rapids' own Oracle, Chance Jones, UV Hippo, Total Blam Blamsand Winter/Sessions. Muskegon's Four Finger Five and the headliner, Chicago Afrobeat Project, will conclude the night.

"We have a lot to celebrate, our crew is making some of the best beer in America and celebrating this effort with our local family seems only appropriate and what a better way to do it than host a festival," Stevens says.

Admission for Founders Fest is $10 and tickets, for those 21 and older, will be available at the gate.

Founders Brewing Company  is a proud member of the Michigan Brewers Guild.

We are very excited to announce that construction of the new Founders Brewing Co. is underway!  This is a huge undertaking as we look toward the close of 2007 as an opening date.  Feel free to pass by and check out the progress for yourself!  It is located on Grandville Ave, next to the Custer Building, and two doors down from The Intersection.

Our new and approved facility was designed, and is being built to offer the same rustic feel of our current location, just larger.  Peanuts shells will still litter the floor, and the old steel and wood homemade tables are coming with us.  The noticable changes will include a permanent stage with house sound system, a front porch that runs the entire length of the Tap Room; larger and more accommodating restrooms, an air conditioner that works properly, and a little bit larger of a kitchen (No, we are NOT becoming a restaurant!).  The new Tap Room will be non-smoking on the interior, with two huge glass garage doors that open up to the large, covered, and heated front porch, which will serve as the smoking section.

We will be posting updated photos of the new construction on our Myspace page as things progress.

Thanks to all of you whom have supported us over the years!  This truly couldn't have happened without you!

Upon turning on the local news Saturday Afternoon, I realized that this wasn't just going to be another typical Michigan Snow Storm.  Malls, movie theatres, highways, and professional sporting events were each being cancelled one by one.  Even the police came on the news and told everyone to stay home!  Great!,  I'm thinking, I can understand the public safety warnings, but c'mon, don't tell our potential crowd to stay home!  At least let them make up their own mind, ya know.  We've got a big night planned! The Total Blam Blams, Moto, Love Fossil, a new CD, a party, etc.  Without the blizzard, we were sure to be rockin.  But with the "treacherous" driving conditions, none of us knew exactly what to expect.

Things started out quietly.  A few people would roll in here and there, but they were the hardcores, the regulars.  We knew that they'd be there regardless.  It was all of the not-so-regulars that we were worried about.  Will they brave the wind and snow?  Will they be willing to drive 20mph from wherever they live to join in the festivities?  We were about to find out....

The Total Blam Blams took the stage at 9pm sharp to a room that was decently full despite the conditions outside.  Without a question, they totally lit it up, super-sweet style.  The deep riffs, melodic harmonies, and hard-hitting love songs got everyone warmed up.  By the time they finished their set, the crowd had nearly doubled in size.  It was starting to look like a Saturday night again.  The brew was a'flowin and Moto was up next.  Other bar/restaurant employees started filing in with the news that their respected establishments had shut down early.  The roads were empty, as we were one of the only places downtown that was still open.  After Moto finished assassinating the crowd with their pure rock sound, the stage was set for the science experiment...

Welcomed to the stage by a roaring crowd, the grunge sounds of Love Fossil spilled into the ears of those present.  It was a packed house, and the band did nothing short of blowing away those lucky fans whom had battled the wintry mix to be there.   Complete in their most basic form, the Power Trio named Love Fossil played 2 sets of outstanding music, with the occasional on stage appearances of the Scientist himself, and Kremo, who was running the board, and the recordings as well.

It all came to a close, as the three bands mixed members to encore with David Bowie's "Heroes".  Truly a fitting song for all of the brave souls who made the night what it was!
