Those of you that know me, or have followed my career through the years also know that I am constantly on the journey of making business, spirit, and myself better. I believe one of the most amazing things we can experience in life is growth.
The next level for my beauty business is to take the company from being known as the premiere branded name in eyebrow and eyebrow products, to a company you can trust in beauty...period! When you see the name Damone Roberts you will instantly know this is the best there is for what you are purchasing. I consider myself a businessman as well as an artist. I am constantly staying in the loop of film, fashion, music, stocks and bonds, books, news of the world, travel and anything else to always remain 2-3 steps ahead. One company I have followed through the years, and continue to be amazed at the success they have achieved is O.P.I. They have changed the nail industry with not only colors that are unique and different, but also with names that are always a fun topic of conversation. I truly believe eyebrows are the single most important, underestimated feature on the face...but I also know I have so much more to offer. I will continue working towards my goal of becoming a household name, as we introduce to you our latest venture. O.P.I has created a nail color exclusively for Damone Roberts, Inc. named "Damone Roberts 1968" and will be available to the masses August 1, 2009. The color is a soft mint green that is proving to be THE COLOR for Summer/Fall 2009 as demonstrated during NY's Fashion Week. Some say I�m nuts to want to deal with the craziness that accompanies nuptials, but I actually relish in it. I feel absolute pleasure in being part of helping a bride achieve her ideal of perfection on her wedding day. Whether its the application of eyelash extensions, makeup application for her and her bridal party or my suggestion for a hair stylist; what better way to indulge the cancer in me than to be able to share in the most beautiful and special day of their lives. There are clients that I have had for years and I have been able to partake in some of the most monumental days in their lives. I have clients that I have done makeup for their children�s bar mitzvahs, proms and their weddings. I have done weddings for 2 or more siblings from the same family. I have traveled with clients in the states and abroad. I have formed lifelong relationships and have been privy to some of the most intimate and special moments in their lives. Some moments never cease to bring me to tears. When the father of the bride see�s his daughter for the first time�MAGICAL! A bride receiving a special something from her soon to be husband; a grandmother passing an heirloom to the bride as her �something old�; the look of awe from bridesmaids and mothers when the bride slips her gown on for the first time. These are the moments that get me every time. However, my all time favorite is the look on the grooms face when seeing his bride for the first time�PRICELESS.
I absolutely love what I do and I guess that is why I have chosen this field, because I truly love making people look good. Even though I love �beating a face� for a special occasion or red carpet event, or getting totally wild and creative for a photo shoot nothing will ever surpass the feeling I get with �My Brides�. Happy Mothers Day
Mothers Day is a time of year where we all give thanks to the special woman we call Mom. I believe being a Mother is single handedly the most important job any human being can hold. Mother's not only birth us, but also mold us to ultimately become the best version of ourselves. Many of you know I lost my Mother a few years back. There are no words that exist to explain the void that is left behind when you lose the one person who you know beyond a shadow of a doubt, loves you unconditionally...FOR REAL! I remember thinking as a child there is no way I could ever go on without my best friend, known to everyone else as my Mother.
She was not only my rock, but also my foundation and light. Somehow I am still here 5 years later to write this. What I know for sure is there is a higher power called God that is bigger than all of us, and with his guidance and support I am here today. I know my Mother's spirit is always surrounding me as she shows me daily how close she still is. Please do not take your Mother's for granted! This thing called Life passes very quickly, and in one day everything can change.
Celebrate your Mother's daily and not just once a year. Always remember the true meaning of the word Love.

A "flirtext" is defined by the authors as any text message sent between you and a boy you would like to date or are currently dating (i.e., someone you would like to make out with or are currently making out with). These texts are normally comprised of the flirty, witty banter that you throw back and forth with each other that typically leads to a date and, if you're lucky, then some.  Mother's day has always been a very special occasion in my family. My siblings and I always make it a super fun, creative day for our mom. We like to think outside the box and choose unconventional ways to share the day with mom. This year, we will spend the day putting a fresh coat of paint in Mom's room. Once it dries, my brother, sisters and I will decorate the walls. I've decided to print the following poem as a border along the top of each wall. I hope you all enjoy Mother's Day with the person or people who have helped you become who you are today!

Diva's Corner - Sarah Agajanian
"Light of Change"
The world is going through a major shift as we all know, and within that shift I too have changed.
I am an artist in many forms and I recently have been heavily inspired to write poetry, lyrics and music. I feel the best thing that comes from these dyer changes and a crazy economy is the discovery of oneself truest desires. We at this moment have no other place to run than to run inside ourselves to find happiness. I am excited and very sure that "the night is the darkest before the dawn", for the dawn shines through us. I am thankful for my job at Damone Roberts Salon, as well as the devoted clientele we hold at our home.
I would like to share with you a poem I wrote January 19th, in a moment of true clarity I was at ease.

Damone Roberts New York has officially
been open for 1 year now!
 I write these words surrounded by surrealism that we actually did it. The saying that if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere has never been more accurate.
I want to personally thank Armond Hamrick for carrying on the tradition of perfectly framed brows and flawless make up applications to our East Coast clients. He has proven to be very dedicated and dependable.
Marilyn Brown, for showing again and again how to run and manage things all with the taste and elegance of a Supreme Being, and Ramon Leon for creating such a spiritually satisfying space that pleases the eyes as you escape the hustle and bustle of 5th Avenue.
Lastly, I want to thank you for your continued support in helping to keep my dreams alive.

Diva's Corner - Armond Hambrick
“The City”
A whole year has passed since I moved to “The City” and it has been quite the experience. I was so excited about moving to NYC. I saved all my money and told all my friends and family. Everyone was so excited for me to spread my wings and experience life. The day finally came when I moved to the big apple to help open Damone Roberts New York. I knew only a few people like Michelle Rigg (Make-Up Artist), Caroline Rice (Actress) and Gregory Alan (Hairstylist) who all took me under their wings and showed me how to get around and where things are in “The City”.
I wasn’t afraid of not really knowing anyone here because I love meeting new people. I’ve learned how to really market and promote myself and make connections. The saying “A closed mouth doesn’t get fed” is very true! You have to make it happen here in New York.
Since being here, I’ve also had the pleasure to do the stunning Beyonce’s brows for her big wedding day. She truly is a wonderful person to talk to, learn from and be around. I also had the opportunity to do her brows for her latest album “I am Sasha Fierce” and to be on the set of her hit video “If I were a Boy”.
Learning how to get around “The City” is where my good friend Gregory Alan showed me the ropes. Through him I went to my first industry party for VS Magazine, did my first editorial and worked Fashion Week. He always encourages and pushes me to be the best.
He is the type of friend that everyone should have when moving somewhere new. Thank you Gregory Alan for being such a great friend!
I’m so thankful to still be here. I am learning so much and many people have encouraged me to stay focused. It’s difficult to find the words to express how appreciative I am to friends and clients who have come so far to see me or to have their brows and makeup done. I believe that you attract what you are; when you’re a good person you attract good people. If I had to choose a word to describe my whole experience I would say, Grateful.
To anyone who’s ever been afraid to make a major move for work, school or a relationship; don’t be scared! It could be the best move you’ll ever make. I’m not saying it’s easy but it gets easier and smoother everyday.

Fortune Girls
I wanted the February Newsletter to be not only about Valentines Day, but also about LOVE. The love of Family, Lovers, Friends and Life. True blessings all start with Love. I am thankful to have Love all around me with my higher power, husband, family, friends, fans, godchildren, and now my 1st nephew who was born only a few days ago.
Anyone who knows me will tell you I absolutely adore children. I love the way they see people for their true character, and not anything exterior. They don’t care if you’re a different religion, race, sexuality, or if you live on a different side of the tracks. They care about the sincerity of your character.
I believe you can learn so much from children, and whenever I am around them I am a sponge taking it all in. I recently had the opportunity to participate in a new website for the Tween set called Fortune Girls.
Fortune Girls was created by 12-year-old Madison Ruiz. The brand seeks to encourage Tweens to follow their dreams, build self-esteem and be socially conscious. The web site creates lifelong recipes for growth, personal success and inspiration to make the world a better place.

The story as I know it is St. Valentine was a priest who served during the 3rd century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he banned marriage for young men. With this action he hoped to have better soldiers. When Valentine found what Emperor Claudius was doing, he madly disagreed and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. Claudius discovered Valentines actions & ordered that he be put to death.

January, Jeopardy and Journeys
2008 ended with me receiving a phone call from one of my cousins to tell me she was watching Jeopardy and I was the question. I have had this experience once before 3 years ago when a friend called to say she was playing Trivial Pursuit and I was a question. I told her then to call me back when she was done drinking if she wanted to have a real conversation.
She called back and I found out that I really was a part of a board game (The question is: What parts of Madonna have been plucked by Damone Roberts? The Eyebrows). This feeling was quite surreal, but when I got the call about Jeopardy... A huge feeling of disbelief kicked in.
The next thing I knew my cell phone was ringing nonstop from friends and family with the same news, and my email box was full (The question was: Damone Roberts has become famous as the King of shaping what facial feature? The Eyebrows). I must be honest when saying the thought had crossed my mind once or twice while watching the show as a wouldn't that be cool moment, but to have Alex Trebek actually say my name when the board turned around and to be a question on the worlds 1 game show with 400 Million viewers is just beyond. It truly was a great way to start the new year.
January is the perfect time to ask yourself...What's next? I will be 100% honest with you when I say I have a blessed life. I have seen parts of the world others dream of. I have met kings and queens, the worlds biggest stars, first families, eaten in the biggest homes, worn the worlds largest diamond to an event, partied like a rockstar @ The Vanity Fair Oscar party, starred in a national hit TV series for 3 seasons, found a loving partner, friends that make me laugh, raised by parents with honesty, integrity and love, opened the hottest salon in Beverly Hills across from Neimans and in New York on 5th Ave, developed a first of it's kind product that really works (Brow Gain), been told by my childhood idol (Diana Ross) that she is a fan of my products, flown by private plane coast to coast, had a cocktail named in my honor during New York fashion week, had Madonna tell me I could have been a surgeon because my work is so precise, had Oprah teach me personally that it's important to give back, saw Naomi Campbell do the runway @ The Valentino show in Paris, and I had the pleaure of waking up this morning.
On and On I could go... not bad from a little boy from the projects of Oakland. I say all this not to brag but to tell you all the Blessings that have come my way I have made happen with the guidance of my higher power and hard work.
Everything I mentioned started out to me as a vision of what I wanted my life to be. If you can dream it, you can be it!
I really feel like I'm just getting started and I look most forward to what the next chapter is going to be in 2009. I am going to make this my best year yet!

Mexico: Plucking eyebrows indicates homosexual tendencies, says high school principal; 15 students suspended

The Tamaulipan Youth Institute (Itjuve) is demanding action against a high school principal in Matamoros, Mexico, who suspended fifteen male students for plucking their eyebrows arguing that the practice was "unique to women or youth with a homosexual tendency."
Efraín Hernández, director of Itjuve, told La Jornada in an article published today that the sanctions taken against the students on December 15th by principal Rubén Reyes Urbina were discriminatory ("Matamoros: High school principal suspends fifteen students who had plucked eyebrows").
"No one can be denied the right to enter an institution simply because they look different to the rest of the alumni or because they decided to make a change in their person," Hérnandez said, "we clearly see a discrimination that is worrisome since it is a center that shapes individuals which is not in the best of hands."
The students, who were suspended during finals week and three days before the holiday vacations, ranged from thirteen to fifteen years of age.
Members of the State Association of Family Parents has also expressed their dismay and said that the agency will also submit complaints with the State Commission of Human Rights.

I can't believe we are in the year 2009!
Sometimes I feel like time is simply flying by realizing that 11 years have passed since my mother and I left Ukraine.
A few days ago I was spending the afternoon with my mother reminiscing about how as a teenager I would spend hours in her closet. We laughed at how she would get so upset when she would find me dressed in her beautiful outfits with her entire wardrobe strewn about her bedroom.
Before we knew it we were in her closet taking out everything and trying it all on. The most surprising thing was that alot of the clothes we brought out from when she was younger are exactly what is in style today.
I started teasing her about how all the clothes I pranced about in as a kid would now finally belong to me because there is no way she would ever fit into them again! Upon hearing that she reminded me that she once said to me "I hope one day you have a daughter that comes into your closet and gets into everything, just as your doing to me!"
My face dropped as now I have two girls of my own and I can already see my closet getting smaller and smaller...
I guess it's true when they say "What goes around comes around" in fashion and family.

2008 has been a transformative year for us all. Collectively we have experienced severe fires, earthquakes, hurricanes, and blizzards. We have watched and suffered the anguish of a failing economy, and dreamed to fruition the most historic Presidential election of this generation.
Navigating these highs and lows has not been easy, however, 2009 provides us with a unique opportunity.
I challenge you all to use the last few weeks of '08 to truly reflect upon the past year. Dare to imagine the wonderful things you will accomplish by this time next year by surrounding yourself with positive thoughts and positive people. Take time to cherish the most important thing in your life. Whether it be God, Family, Career, or the pursuit of a Higher Self… acknowledge its presence in your life and be grateful.

After leaving the set of Rihanna's Disturbia video shoot, I found myself living a new page in "The Memoirs of the Lash Guru to the Stars". Damone is a person I admire a lot. Working with him in Beverly Hills and New York, I get to relish the incredible experience of watching my dream come true one lash at a time.
I started doing faux lashes in the winter of 2002. In May of 2006, Vogue did a feature on eyelash extensions and listed me as one of the top experts in the country. My aunt called me after reading the feature and told me that when I was six years old she found me in the bathroom playing in her make up and I had stuck her faux eyelash strips on my eye. I was shocked to find at the age of six eyelashes were my calling!
The convenience of faux lashes makes the mess and hassle of mascara a thing of the past. I custom-tailor each lash to enhance a person's unique features. Today's false eyelashes come in several forms; full strips, single lashes and eyelash extensions.
Lash Extensions are an extension to your own lashes, they can make your lashes look longer, and a little fuller but maintain their naturalness. If you're seeking faux lashes because you have missing lashes due to illness or your natural lashes are very curly, grow down or are straight, this type of faux lash may not be for you. However, there are other types of lashes that I offer that would fit you and your lifestyle accordingly.

Diva's Corner - Minna
As my 41st birthday approaches, I find myself reflecting on events in the past that have shaped my life. With all the changes that I have experienced (i.e. buying my first home, my mother's death from AIDS, divorcing my second husband, and my eldest daughter starting college) there is one thing that stands out in my mind, and that is to trust myself.
If I'm honest with myself – there are numerous occasions where a decision had to be made and I had a gut feeling about what to do and I didn't follow through.
It took me years to realize that the inner knowing I was experiencing was the answer to my prayers for guidance. Whenever I didn't listen to the warnings or admonitions of that inner voice the results were not to my advantage. So why didn't I listen, why didn't I trust my instincts? FEAR!
Fear of not understanding why I was feeling the way I felt. Fear of not wanting to hurt or disappoint someone else by my opposing decisions. It's fear that caused me to settle for less than I deserved! Now I know and understand that my intuition is the way of the universe communicating with me.
So my resolution for the next decade of my life is to trust my instincts, accept nothing but the best, and to no longer settle for less!

Cynthia's "MOLE"
Last year when I decided to become a vegetarian, I realized that I wouldn't be able to enjoy my mother's amazing Chicken Molè. Molè is a traditional Mexican dish that consists of mashing lots of spices together to create a delicious sauce, which is then simmered with poultry of choice.
After giving my predicament some thought, I decided to modify my mother's recipe. I hope you all enjoy this new version of Molè as much as I have.

Ingredients
1 block firm tofu, cut into 1-inch squares
1 ¼ cup vegetable broth
4 oz. minced onion
1 clove minced garlic
2-½ tbsp. olive oil
½ cup tomato sauce
2 tsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. chili powder
¼ tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. ground cloves
½ oz. unsweetened chocolate
Directions
In a skillet, take 1 tbsp. olive oil and fry tofu squares on all sides to give them a nice brown crust. Set aside on napkins to absorb any extra oil.
Sauté onions and garlic with remaining olive oil. Combine this with all remaining ingredients, except for ¼ vegetable broth, in a blender and blend until smooth. Return to sauce pan and simmer for 15-20 minutes. During this time add the remaining broth slowly to thin out and add tofu.
Serve with vegetable Spanish rice and enjoy!

 Culture Club had a number of top 10 singles during the 80's, but was known mostly because of their androgynous lead singer, Boy George.
One can easily forget how talented the group were due to an image that some considered extreme.
The Greatest Hits CD contains celebrated pop classics such as "Karma Chameleon", "Do you really want to hurt me", "I'll tumble 4 ya", and one of my personal favorite songs of all "Time…Clock of the heart".
