Greetings Brotherhood,

It is time for you to embrace a deeper Darkness with a free, new multiplayer map available on Xbox Live Marketplace. DM_Haunt is a city style map, set in a forgotten, worn-down back alley of New York at night. Unleash your inner demons via Death Match and Team Death Match game modes with the ability customize for Shapeshifters, Darklings, or Humans.

Download it now, worldwide, for free.

Good news Brothers,

The Darkness demo released today on Xbox 360 in the US and Europe, and on PS3 in Europe. I am certain you all, by now, own The Darkness yourselves, but if you want to indoctrinate your ignorant friends, the demo is now available for you to command.

Brotherhood,

Here's what's going on with the multiplayer:

Right now, it seems that the main cause of the lag is the bandwidth of those hosting multiplayer games.  We didn't get any lag problems during our testing because we have pretty good bandwidth speeds.  We are working on a patch that will hopefully solve this problem.

We aim to release the patch sometime next month for the 360. For PS3 users, we are waiting for Sony's August patch for our update to work. After that happens, we'll fix your multiplayer, too. But, for both systems, until we get the patch there is a temporary fix, straight from the developer:

Check your bandwidth speeds and follow these guidelines.  This should ensure that you minimize or completely eliminate the lag.
   - below a 1.5 megabit/s upstream, host only up to 3 players
   - 1.5 - 4 megabit/s upstream, host only up to 4 players
   - above 4 megabit/s upstream, host up to 8 players.

Your bandwidth upstream is how fast data can be sent over your internet connection to the other players in your match, so if your speed is too slow for the amount of players you are hosting, your game is going to lag. If you don't know your upstream, here's a quick way to check. Use this link from speedeasy and check your upstream numbers against our guidelines above: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/links.php

Now some bad news for those of you who've been asking - No, there will not be any patches or updates that will bring Darkness powers into the multiplayer games.  I've already told some of you individually why, but I'll tell the lot of you what's going on.  Simply, it would throw the balancing out of whack and would not be fun.  The Darkness Powers make you reallly, REALLY strong.  Since single player was our focus we didn't work on a way to make the Darkness Powers feasible.  It would have taken A LOT of time to get those powers to work in a mutliplayer game that would not have been cheap and frustrating.  HOWEVER, if we do a sequel that is definitely something that we will do our best to include... especially if The Brotherhood wills it enough.

Finally, you've put up with a lot regarding the multiplayer so I'm opening myself up to your challenge.  Find me on Xbox Live under the gamertag, "Master Kweif".   I don't have time to formalize a match with everyone, but when I have a free moment The Brotherhood of The Darkness, as always, will be the first to know.

Hear Me Brothers!

As Lord Sonatine of The Brotherhood of The Darkness I know you want more. And more you shall have!

We are working on another multiplayer map for you to enjoy. However, we need to know which ones you like the best so we can shape The Darkness properly.

Message me directly and let me know what you desire! Tell me your favorite map and mode and I will make The Darkness spread even more.

Many of you have been asking if there is an alternative ending. Unfortunately, no. There is just the one.

I've read all of your concerns about the multiplayer and was just online to try it out for myself... I hear you Brothers and I saw it for myself. Fortunately, the lag problem wasn't consistent. It happened with only a few matches.

Here's the deal: Starbreeze, as is common with most developers at the launch of a game, are on a bit of a vacation. They've worked 7 days a week for months now and well deserve it. However, once they get back we're going to look into what we can do about the lag problem. Emails have already been sent.

All I can ask is that you be patient for the time being.

As always, when I know more I'll let you know.

And, of course, if you have any questions you know how to reach me.

Hear me Brothers,

Now that you've all been experiencing the powers of the Darkness you know that it is sometimes difficult to command.  Unfortunately, I cannot help you in that regard.

If you are having trouble getting past a certain point I am not going to tell you how to do it.  You must figure it out for yourself.  Otherwise, where's the fun and challenge?

There are hint lines and strategy guides of course, but we are the followers of The Darkness.   We are the strong.
