CAPTAIN CANUCK'S UNHOLY WAR RAGES ON

Canada's superhero returns to battle organized crime on the west coast in Captain Canuck: Unholy War #4 this August.

The series continues the adventures of the character debuted by Richard Comely in 1975.

Captain Canuck: Unholy War tells the story of RCMP constable David Semple, who dons the guise of Captain Canuck to take down an elaborate crime ring run by the Unholy Avengers biker gang. The first three issues of Unholy War were released in 2004 and 2005. Though the three issues told a complete story, brother team Drue and Riel Langlois felt there were important story elements they needed to deal with.

"The third issue ended with crime boss Mr. Gold putting a million-dollar bounty on Canuck's head," Riel Langlois explains. "#4 picks up with numerous adversaries attacking him for a shot at the reward." As in previous issues, this new installment will be drawn by fine artist Drue Langlois and written by his brother Riel.

Riel Langlois promises there are "special features" that he and editor/creator Richard Comely have put in place for the fans, including "cameos of Captain Canuck characters from all the series," Langlois says. "Plus, we deal with an unresolved dilemma from the 1975 series."

In the original series, Captain Canuck became stranded back in time - a storyline that has been left unresolved since the first series ended in 1981. Two new secret identities for Captain Canuck were introduced in 1993 and 2004, but the original Tom Evans remained time-bounced.

Bringing the new book to comic shops is Diamond Comic Distributors, the largest distributor of comic books in the world. "Diamond is carrying it with a blurb that the Captain Canuck in Unholy War 'makes a decision that will alter the Captain Canuck universe forever' - and that's a perfect summation."

Those interested in reserving a copy of Captain Canuck: Unholy War #4 at their local comic shop can do so before June 16th. The book's Diamond item code is JUN073380.

A five-page preview of the book can be found at www.captaincanuckunholywar.com.

The publishing schedule for issues 2, 3, and 4 of the Captain Canuck Legacy series will be announced soon at www.captaincanuck.com

THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: UNHOLY WAR #4 COMING IN AUGUST 2007!

That's right - a new chapter in the saga of David Semple and the West Coast Captain Canuck! The story picks up 6 months after Unholy War #3. If you've been following Richard Comely's Captain Canuck Legacy, this is the story that began as the backup in Legacy #1.

CLICK HERE TO READ THE FIRST FIVE PAGES!

The comic is being carried in June's Previews from Diamond Comic Distributors, the world's largest comic distributor. That means that in August, David Semple will be in stores around the world!

(Please mention it to your comic shop in June so that they'll order from the Previews catalog for August.)

The blurb in Previews describes the new issue this way: "...David Semple makes a decision that will alter the Captain Canuck universe forever." True!

There are also guest stars galore from Richard Comely's roster! I don't want to give too much away, but if people saw where I was going in Unholy War #3, this takes it one step beyond!

-Riel

PS: If you have comments, e-mail me because they might make it into the letters column in Unholy 4!

Mystery rock turns out to be meteorite

CanWest News Service

Published: Saturday, May 12, 2007

CALGARY - It's a little like winning a lottery from outer space.

Manitoban Wayne Langlois is one of just a handful of Canadians ever to recover a piece of the asteroid belt. Calgary researchers have confirmed the potato-sized rock he pried from its centuries-old resting place in permafrost outside Churchill in 1955 is Canada's 72nd recovered meteorite.

Langlois, then 12, was digging a sump next to his family's home to dispose of kitchen water.

University of Calgary geology professor Alan Hildebrand said Friday the find is a clue that unknown worlds exist.

"Meteorites are bits from other worlds we have not visited yet," he said. "They are free samples of asteroids."

Dubbed the Churchill meteorite, the 850-gram iron-rich rock could be worth up to $8,500 to collectors.

But its true value is scientific and educational, Hildebrand said.

Langlois said he'd always suspected the rock was extraterrestrial.

"Like Jack Nicholson said, 'It's as good as it gets'," he said.

"You are one of about 68 people in the past 500 years to find a meteorite. It feels good."

Okay, folks! This is the sequel to the psychology experiment. The first one involved a sketch of a man, and now we are looking at the sketch of a dog.

(To see how the last one went, see my previous blog entry and click on "view results.")

My brother, Drue Langlois, has been working on this for a while and I'm gathering new data for him.

The question is: How cute is too cute?

Choose the image that reaches the point of cuteness that is too cute, i.e. the point where it starts to become repulsive. There is no wrong answer, we're only looking for opinions.
