New album on Acroplane.org - Blake Market presents Polynesia-Town

"One of the most fascinating things about electronic music is the rate at which things change; genres can emerge and disappear within a matter of months, years can often represent generations of influence. Unlike many artists who can't see the beach for the palm trees, Blake Market cheekily winks at current trends. Rather than blindly leaping aboard a bandwagon with no known nautical destination, he decides it's best to chill out and devote the day to rigging up the yacht in a proper manner.

Polynesia-Town skillfully applies the techniques of dub, and it's progeny dubstep, to an entirely different soundset. Jazz horns are given otherworldly echoes, and unlike much of contemporary electronica the music is driven by it's melodies, not it's basslines... although the lowend does rear its distorted head on cuts like Shawinigan and Acid Control."

Now this is going to be a cool show.  John Kameel Farah from TO is a favorite artist of mine, combining virtuosic impressionist, free-jazz, arab scales and neo-classical (I guess) rhodes and synth playing with laptop beats ranging from dubstep to breakcore.  It all just sounds like a mishmash of awesomeness.  InsideaMind are a trippy turntable duo from TO.  I'll be playing new stuff...

The venue is relatively new and it's down on the water near, or attached to, the St Ambroise Brewery.  I think they will be serving beer.  There's a terrace facing the Lachine Canal.  Apparently it's quite fancy!

Come check out this awesome show, friends.

ACP016: Blake Market - Northern Wood

Blake Market (aka Black Market, Zark Behida, Blakkar Noir) re-emerges with an album of utterly up-front, forward-looking hard drum n'bass.

Based on a far-flung concept inspired by the natural grandeur of the Boreal Forests of his homeland, this release is certain to please lovers of both old-school techstep and drill n' bass alike (to the exclusion of pretty much everybody else! - ed). Seriously though, it's well good.

Pounding, splintered odd-meter breakbeats and thoroughly Canadian nature samples are paired with grizzly basslines and suspicious synths in this off-kilter winner.

the whole thing here

For the record these tracks are mostly about a year old and many were posted on this myspace at some point.  But download the zip - it's all high quality 320kbps mp3s that I made just for you, babe.
