Thursday night saw the first of the Jooks of Kent's Juke Joint nights at Folkestone's little basement bar, The Chambers. The amazing Kris Dollimore blew us away by agreeing to come and play, and then blew our minds on the night with his incredible playing and passion for what he does. From original RL Burnside-esque boogies with electric guitar and stomp box to awe-inspiring acoustic John Lee Hooker numbers, every song he played was met with whistles and shouts from the audience. His version of TV Eye makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. Anyone who hasn't seen him play must rectify this immediately! There was a great buzz on the night, and palpable excitement from the people who were able to see such an exciting and electrifying performance in their home town. The Jooks opened for him and then joined him at the end of the night for an impromptu version of Poor Black Mattie. The brilliant DJ Hill Funk played lo fi blues and 60s garage to get us all in the mood, despite the fact he had a 6am flight from Gatwick to see Jawbone play in Italy. Now that's dedication!!

The next Juke Joint is on Thursday 5 July, when the brilliant punk blues three-piece the Gin Palace will be joining us. It's free admission, and it's by the sea... what more could you want? It's only about an hour and a half from London, so make a date in your dairies and hopefully see ya there! - da Jooks
