As part of the continuing quest to find the newest and heaviest waves in the UK and Ireland, the mag went underground and discovered a brand new world-class wave. Pictures have been under wraps for four weeks, but now it's time to release the beast with underground chargers Tom Lowe, Ian Battrick and Fergal Smith hooking into some life threatening pits!

A generic overview of life down in the Sin City. The surf, working for Carve Magazine and as an instructor.


Right as an introduction all I want to say is I'm Joe, I work for Carve surf magazine and also the English Surfing Federation Surf School along with Harlyn Surf School.

Sin city as its aptly named is a plethora of indulgenge and excess, I have'nt been here long but would guess in the summer months everyone, locals and grockles get their fill of piss, banter, roots and all frustratingly topped with some summer surf. I would expect as this blog progresses throughout the year and as Newquay itself starts to wrap up warm and enter hibernation I'll discover a different side of the town away from the shops, bars and lads on tour!

Upon my first night here, in true skint English fashion I decided to head to wetherspoons! A few brews later myself and my fellow drinking buddies left the premesis in a respectable yet ruined fashion. As we reached the doorway we had to wait for two rival lads on tour groups to finish their drinking competition. At first we wondered why the competition was so heated but then it became clear as the loser marched outside placed his hands on his head and allowed all members of the oposing team to relieve themselves of the beer they just drank all over the poor guys legs, chest and feet.

So a word of advice DO NOT enter drinking competitions if the loser has to be urinated on, it may seem fun but I promise you this guy was ultimately humiliated and I expect his chances of getting lucky flowed down the road along with the remnants of his pride.

Apart from that I've had many a good night here, loads of new people and definately good partying, the surf as you probably have all witnessed has been a little inconsistent but waves are to be had so for such a time of year Im not going to complain. Originating from Bournemouth its nice to swap 2ft onshore slop for 3ft up here so Im like a pig in sh*t!

The first week working for carve has drawn to an end.

As you can all see we have jazzed up our myspace page, created a facebook account and we are currently working hard to give our online presence a 'face lift'. The summer special of surf girl is out this week so as you can expect things have been manic around the office.

The usual SIN night in sailors went down well last night with the usual end of weekend carnage! Its been a crazy weekend for myself driving home to sunny bournemouth (and scoring a couple of foot of a-class bournemouth chop) only to return to sin city in the early hours (early enough to grab a couple of beers before bed).

Looks like we will have a wave all week so I guess its time to get my head down and do some work, get out the office early and get in the water!
