A cover of Steve Goodman's 'City of New Orleans' recorded for the album 'Songs of Katrina'. All profits from sales of 'Songs of Katrina' (CD or downloads) are going to Tipitinas Foundation in New Orleans - www.tipitinasfoundation.org - which is supporting the purchase of musical instruments for children of the city, to reseed the next generation of New Orleans’ incredible musical legacy. More info about this album and how to get hold of it as soon as I find out myself!

I came across this minidisc recording I made a couple of years ago of 'Like a used telephone' being given the Jesse Taylor & Texas Storm treatment at a country music fest in Keynsham, spelt K-E-Y-N-S-H-A-M (for those of you of a certain age who used to listen to Radio Luxembourg), Keynsham, near Bristol. 'Jesse' did somewhat throw it at his band - they genuinely hadn't rehearsed it - but I thought they made a pretty fair job of my song. 3/4, 4/4 - what's the odds... Jesse Taylor & Texas Storm as such are no more, unfortunately - good band! Anyway, it's nice to hear one of your own songs being covered

Anyone able to tell me how to do this? A friend of mine videoed me a couple of nights ago doing 'Everywhere I go' at a gig, and it's not bad - audio certainly, though the video part is a bit grainy. Anyway, I'd love to post it here and on YouTube BUT the file is 977MB!!!!! Why...? And can I reduce it to something manageable without too much trouble? It's an .AVI file...

Me is hoping...

I won't go into the reason why, but the new venue - Bitton Recreation Club - already has a well established country music club once a month. It's bigger, with a stage, and cheaper drinks. If anyone needs to camp overnight they can. The event will also have use of the outside grounds too. Every cloud has a silver lining...

If you're in London Monday 6 April, why not spend a happy evening at the Half Moon, 93 Lower Richmond Road, London SW15? £2.50 for eight class acts, including me! If you can come, mentioning my name as you get your ticket would be a GOOD THING as far as I'm concerned and would be much appreciated!

Current mood:  annoyed
Category: Music

Sunday nights at the Hobgoblin, Gloucester Road, Bristol. Now I'm not one to get easily annoyed but... arrive on time at 8pm - just a couple of other musicians there. The "organiser" (note the quotes) kicks off and meanders along for what seems like half an hour but was probably only 20 minutes. Hiatus to set up next act. Invited, with others, to join in on guitar for a couple of songs. OK, fine. Guy does 2 more songs. Fine, no problem. Another gap. Another act - 4 songs. That's alright. Another long-ish interlude to set up a rather good electric guitarist who drifts through a couple of instrumentals and then tries to accompany the "organiser" and a friend singing a song that neither they nor he knows. Tails off into 'musical' chaos. Then a loud duo (yes, another extended setting up period) get EIGHT songs! The guy I went along with was next - got himself set up quickly and did four excellent numbers, inviting me to join him on the last one. Then it was my turn, after waiting patiently for over 2½ hours. "Sorry, only time for one - I've got to get someone else on and the bar's closing." Cue minor explosion. However, I agreed to do only three - and got cut off after two (BOTH of which, I might add, were very well received) because the bar was closing. Packed up guitar - as one of the "organiser's" mates started a set! The excuse, by the way, was that he didn't know closing time was that early. Not much excuse considering the shambolic way the evening was 'organised'. No excuse at all when I was told he pulled the same stunt last week!!! This is one open mic I will NOT be gracing with my presence again - neither will Martin, my transport for the night, and neither will any other local musicians if they've got any sense. Rant over - but I'm still fuming...

Current mood:  contemplative

I'm planning to switch all 4 tracks I've got up on the player at the moment - probably about 6pm GMT tomorrow, Sunday 25 Feb - so if you want to take a listen, or another listen, to what's there now, do it soon! Having started blogging, I might well blog something about the new ones when I've decided what they're going to be...

Current mood:  confused
How does this work? Ladies and gentlemen (and any others who may be reading this), unaccustomed as I am to blogging (like this is my first ever!) - I'd like to invite anyone who can and is desirous of so doing to come and see, hear and support me at the Robin Hood, 56 St Michael's Hill, Bristol BS2 8DX, UK on Saturday 3 March. It's free, it's a nice pub with good beer, and it's not often I get a chance to do a whole evening of original material - on a Saturday night too! Probably kicking off at about 8:30PM - hoping for a full house (so's Barry, the landlord!)
