Financial development of the association

Like multiple mentioned, are the current costs for our children..s home in Mikindani since the elections in Kenya in the beginning of 2008 highly increased caused by massive rising in prices and inflation. This development has driven the association in a situation, in which all godparent hoods for the children are allocated, yet the monthly needed budget for the children’s home isn’t completely covered. Precise calculations you can find under “account keeping or management” in the interne area of our homepage.
We would be pleased, if someone after his personal capabilities, could raise the godparent or membership contribution or if he or she could take over a godparent ship for a project in the HIV- programme, so that step by step a durable maintenance can be effected, in order not to resort for this maintenance to “normal” donations or earnings of benefit concerts etc.


Baobab Family’s Chairman’s report about Kenya trip

Andreas Triebel, founder and chairman of the Baobab Family association, started a journey from February, 27th to March, 13th to visit our projects in Kenya. He wrote a recapitulatory report about it, which can soon be seen on the website.

Some actualities from Mikindani

The first months of this year brought some challenges with it. For some of the older boys, who live in the Children’s Home, it is time step by step to run their own lives. The development of perspectives is caused by financial and country- specific aspects up to now still stagnant.
The team in Kenya works concerning this domain very closely with the German team.
The younger children in the home are occupied with school, because there were the exams and the school year terminated.

Our two volunteers Ruby and Conny returned to Germany in April. From July forward there will be new volunteers to replace them.

Progress of the construction of the Baobab Family Village

Since March, 23rd, the Baobab Family Village is under construction. (news article: http://www.baobabfamily.org/Singlenews.31+M50e1a15f4f2.0.html?&L=1 )
The fundaments of the first houses are meanwhile finished and in spite of the difficulties caused by the rainy season, the construction continues uninterrupted!

Fusion of the Baobab Family Production with the HIV- Prevention and aid programme

In order to minimize the costs and by obvious reasons, as the women, who work in the production are as well integrated in the HIV- project of the Baobab Family, these two sub- projects will be combined in the future.

In the local work there won’t be any fundamental changes, but by facilitating the administration, the money can be used otherwise. For the HIV- project we are still looking for project- godparents, for the financial stabilization of the important educational work and to support the HIV- infected women.

MitarbeiterInnen für Infostände auf Festivals gesucht!

Wie jede Festivalsaison geht auch die Baobab Family wieder mit Informations- und Verkaufsständen auf Tour. Gesucht sind motivierte Helfer und Helferinnen, die Lust haben Standschichten zu übernehmen oder einen Infostand zu organisieren. Welche Stände schon sicher oder noch in Planung sind, ist in der AG Events im Baobab Family Forum → http://www.baobabfamily.org/Forum.61.0.html zu erfahren. Die Infoarbeit ist eine unserer Fundamente um weiter wachsen und effektiv arbeiten zu können! Wir würden uns sehr freuen, Dich bei uns begrüßen können!


Finazielle Entwicklung des Vereins
Wie mehrfach erwähnt, sind die laufenden Kosten unseres Kinderhauses in Mikindani seit den Unruhen nach den Wahlen in Kenia Anfang 2008 durch massive Preissteigerungen und Inflation immens gestiegen. Diese Entwicklung hat den Verein nun in die Lage gebracht, dass alle Kinderpatenschaften vergeben, jedoch das monatlich benötigte Budget für das Kinderhaus nicht vollständig gedeckt ist. Genauere Aufstellungen finden Sie unter „Kontoführung“ in internen Bereich unserer Webseite.
Wir würden uns sehr freuen, wenn der/die ein oder andere nach den persönlichen Möglichkeiten, den Paten- oder Mitgliedschaftsbeitrag etwas aufstocken oder eine Projektpatenschaft für das HIV-Programm übernehmen würde, sodass Stück für Stück eine dauerhafte Versorgung der Projekte herbeigeführt werden kann, für die nicht auf „normale“ Spenden und Einnahmen über Benefizkonzerte etc. zurückgegriffen werden muss.

Aktuelles aus Mikindani

Die ersten Monate des neuen Jahres brachten einige Herausforderungen mit sich. Für einige der älteren Jungs, die im Baobab Children..s Home leben, ist es Zeit Schritt für Schritt ein eigenes Leben zu beginnen. Die Perspektivenentwicklung ist aufgrund finanzieller und landeseigener Aspekte bisher noch stockend. Das Team in Kenia arbeitet in diesem Bereich derzeit eng mit dem deutschen Team zusammen.
Die jüngeren Kinder im Heim hatten gerade Ferien und einige haben ihre Verwandten besucht. Im internen Bereich unserer Webseite haben wir ein paar ihrer Ferienberichte online gestellt.
Unsere zwei Praktikantinnen Ruby und Conny kehrten im April nach Deutschland zurück. Ab Juli werden neue PraktikantInnen ihre Plätze übernehmen.


Baufortschritt des Baobab Family Dorfes

Seit dem 23. März ist das Baobab Family Dorf im Bau! (Newsartikel: http://www.baobabfamily.org/Einzelnews.31+M5eb8f2ab12f.0.html ) Die Fundamente der ersten Häuser sind mittlerweile fertiggestellt und trotz den durch die Regenzeit bedingten Schwierigkeiten, geht der Bau zügig voran! Zusammenlegung der Baobab Family Produktion mit dem HIV – Prävention und Hilfe Programm

Zur Kostenverringerung und aus naheliegenden Gründen, da die Frauen, die in der Produktion arbeiten, auch im HIV – Projekt der Baobab Family integriert sind, werden die beiden Teilprojekte zukünftig zusammengeschlossen.
In der Arbeit vor Ort wird sich nichts wesentliches ändern, durch einfachere Verwaltung können aber Gelder anderweitig genutzt werden. Für das HIV – Projekt suchen wir weiterhin nach ProjektpatInnen, zur finanziellen Stabilisierung der wichtigen Aufklärungsarbeit und Unterstützung der HIV-infizierten Frauen. Baobab Family Founder Andreas Triebel visited Kenya
The founder of the Baobab Family, Andreas Triebel, visited all projects of the Baobab Family in Kenya. From 27th of february to 13th of march, he worked on initiating the start of the Baobab Family Village near Homa Bay and met several people to coordinate and ensure the transcontinental work of the Baobab Family.

The first charity concert in Kenya!
The first charity concert for the Baobab Familyin Kenya was in December. On Dec 13th the musician Nyota Ndogo and others were on stage in front of the Baobab Family Children..s Home in Mikindani to use her art to finance a borehole for an independent water supply for the Children’s Home. We are very proud of our team in Kenya, which organised the first time such a program and were directly successful.

The well sinking in Homa Bay
A second borehole which is drawn at the moment is on our land near Homa Bay at the Lake Victoria: After decelerations of the building plan, because of the politic situation in Kenya last year and the aftermath, we now want to go on further building the Baobab Family Village.
Estimated in June the first orphanage girls can move into the house, for the accommodation we need more godparents. It’s really easy to carry a godparent hood over for 30€/month on http://www.baobabfamily.org/Pate-Engl.404.0.html?&L=1

Development in the Baobab Family Production
For the news year our Production got the order for 500 school uniforms!
Also self printed T-Shirts were offered in Germany for the first time, which were sold very good. The curses in tailoring and screen-printing we afforded to the HIV-positive woman from our production in the year 2007, pays off over all expectations.

Current help needed:

- The monthly budget of the HIV-programm sadly is still not abiding covered. 340€ per month are missing for not to hark back to the ‘normal donations’. Although more and more Kenyans are questing for our support, which we can not give because of money. That’s the reason why we still need more godparents for this subproject of the baobab family.

- If some more persons would support our fundraising team, we would be especially happy: At the moment some volunteers are working on applications for appropriations of foundations and the EU. Dear Friends of the Baobab Family

Today is the special occasion to compose a bulletin/blog:

Music breaks every limit, connects cultures and is as well the foundation stone of the Baobab Family. Many artists support our project for many years by pay free gigs, links on their websites and information straight from the stage to their fans and audience.

For many years, Andreas Triebel – founder and head of the Baobab Family – had the idea to publish a music CD for the help of Kenya. In the beginning of 2007 it is done. Many top-class artists (from Germany, France and Kenya) provide one song each to create the first CD Sampler called „Baobab Family & Friends". The highlight of this CD is a song that one of our children - Hassani, from the Baobab family childrens home in Mikindani - sings. In particular we are very happy about the remix, that every artist sings one verse of the all-artists song called "Respect".

We thank all of the artists so much for supporting us in producing this CD. Many, many thanks!!

The impulse for this CD came through a donation of 30 000 qm of land in Homa Bay, west Kenya. A Kenyan man provides this piece of land for us. The proceeds of the CD sale is meant to raise a Children´s Village for girls there. Apart from that, we wish to establish for this new project as well as for Mikindani a HIV prevention and help program.

For the fans of the involved artists and all the other lovers of Reggae & African Beats, the CD "Baobab Family & Friends" will be a very special goody

Liebe Freunde der Baobab Family

Wir haben heute einen besonderen Anlass, ein Bulletin bzw. einen Blogeintrag zu verfassen:

Die Musik überwindet Grenzen, verbindet Kulturen und ist auch einer der Grundsteine der Baobab Family gewesen. Viele Künstler unterstützen seit vielen Jahren unsere Projekte durch gagenfreie Auftritte, Links auf ihren Webseiten sowie Informationen direkt von der Bühne an ihre Fans.

Viele Jahre schon hatte Andreas Triebel - Gründer und Vereinsvorsitzender der Baobab Family - die Idee, auch eine Musik-CD für die Hilfe in Kenia an den Start zu bringen. Anfang 2007 ist es geschafft, viele hochkarätige Künstler (aus Deutschland, Frankreich und Kenia) haben jeweils einen Song zur Verfügung gestellt, um den ersten CD-Sampler mit dem Namen "Baobab Family & Friends" zu erstellen. Das Highlight der CD ist ein Song, der von einem unserer Baobab Family Kinder -Hassani- aus dem Baobab Family Kinderhaus in Mikindani gesungen wird. Ganz besonders freuen wir uns auch über den Remix, in dem jeder Sänger eine Strophe singt.

Wir bedanken uns bei allen, die uns bei der Produktion dieser CD unterstützt haben, von ganzen Herzen! Vielen, vielen Dank!!!

Der Anstoß zu dieser CD kam durch eine Landspende über 30.000 qm in Homa Bay (im Westen Kenias). Ein älterer Kenianer hat der Baobab Family dieses Grundstück zur Verfügung gestellt. Der Erlös aus dem Verkauf dieses Tonträgers ist für den Aufbau eines Children Village für Mädchen, die ihre Eltern verloren haben und auf der Straße leben, gedacht. Außerdem soll in unserem neuen Projekt, so wie auch in Mikindani, ein HIV Präventions- & Hilfe-Programm aufgebaut werden.

Die CD "Baobab Family & Friends" ist mit Sicherheit ein ganz besonderer Leckerbissen für die Fangemeinde der beteiligten Künstler und alle anderen Liebhaber von Reggae & African Beats.

you can join as a member, godparent, sponsor and/or you can start working with a growing global team of networker with a constructive team-spirit. and i tell you from my x-perience that this one really "rocks". it feels so good to find more and more people who dont give up - stand up for human rights and help where and however you can. it is easy - especially if you are not allone.
