THE SCORPION AND THE DOVE
(Title track from the new album)

Roll up our sleeves we push right back against the dawn
We mourn the light of another day gone
Howl at the moon we curse the sun
Left to set over another job undone
It just had to be we had no other choice
Things got bad before they got worse
Push others down just to give yourself a lift
It’s a delicate balance, and it’s bound to shift

How long do we have to wait
Is there anything left can it be saved?
I believe that it’s not too late, and
No defeat is in vain

Metaphors were never meant to be laws
When you rule with fear, the wisdom’s lost
Faith is blind when it comes without a doubt
Can you still be humble when your answer’s found?
We all pray for peace keep our loved ones safe and sound
Does it matter what you say when your head is bowed?
The pressure is so great just to know how to be saved
When you can’t bend you’re bound to break

How long do we have to wait
Is there anything left can it be saved?
I believe that it’s not too late, and
No defeat is in vain

Fulfill every prophecy bring about impending doom
If the end is coming might as well come soon
Prophets never said it had to be this way
What if they were only warning what becomes of hate
We’ve all missed the point may God bless us all
With the grace to fly and the shame to crawl
It’s a story as old as hate as old as love
The scorpion and the dove

How long do we have to wait
Is there anything left can it be saved?
I believe that it’s not too late, and
No defeat is in vain

It's time!!  Come to IOTA this friday and get the new CD.

Here's why:

DCist thinks you should join us at ground zero for some excellent alt-country. http://dcist.com/2009/04/weekly_music_agenda_38.php

Metro Music Scene thinks the album is "a well-crafted, balanced effort throughout, with thoughtful lyrics and soulful vocals a la Ben Harper style."  http://www.metromusicscene.blogspot.com/

Music For Misanthropes gave us a totally objective review. http://musicformisanthropes.com/2009/04/07/totally-objective-review-wes-tucker-the-skillets/

OnTap Magazine thinks it's gonna be a "worth-while musical experience"  http://www.ontaponline.com/view_article.php?article_id=11471

Hope to see you there.  Thanks alot for all the kind words.

Hey Everyone,

Bad news first:
So Arch had a brain aneursym on Sept. 1st. He had to spend two weeks in the intensive care unit, a week on the neurology floor of the hospital and about a week in the rehab facility next door. So for most of the month of September Arch was feeling pretty rough.

The Good News:
Arch is ok and is doing very very well considering what he went through. The operation was successful, the condition was found in time, and he is expected to make a full recovery. Appropriately, September was Brain Aneurysm Awareness Month, and Arch was just doing his part to raise our awareness. I, for one, know way more than I ever cared to know about brain aneurysms, and I owe it all to Arch.

The Really Good News:
Arch makes his triumphant return to the stage on Thursday!

FODfest is an annual concert tour honoring the life & ideals of the late Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was killed by terrorists in Pakistan in 2002. In addition to being a journalist, Danny was a talented musician and played a variety of instruments, including fiddle, mandolin and violin. Wherever he lived, Danny was actively involved in the local music scene, and wherever he traveled, he sought out local jam sessions.

Wes Tucker, along with his band The Skillets, gives a modern sound to roots-rock. Situated between country, blues, and rock, "Casting Stones" is a foot-tappin', cautionary tale of how "we all strive for the glory, but we all fall short," all the while pointing a finger "like you know who to blame." Though the lyrics are less than uplifting, they are insightful nonetheless. With cool slide-guitar licks that add just a touch of country and acoustic guitars filling out the harmony, this song is the perfect blend between rock and country, appealing to those on all sides of the genre divide. This song is a flawless piece of music and a quality recording. Wes Tucker and The Skillets will play at Whitlow's on Wilson in Arlington this Saturday, August 19th.
