This is a clip of the Chinese film, "The Botanist's Daughter" It's stars our friend, Lin Dongfu. He gave us a copy to watch while we were in Shanghai. The version we saw had English subtitles of the French overdubbed translation from Mandarin. Filming actually took place in Vietnam, as the Chinese government wouldn't grant the needed permits. Apparently, the government over there feels being a homosexual is wrong. So wrong, if fact, that even making a film about it is unthinkable. This is just one clip. The entire film is up on youtube. Its broken up into 11 parts. For the record, Dongfu is one of the sweetest people one could ever hope to meet. He is THE DUDE. When Stars Wars was overdubbed in Mandarin and released in China, he was the voice of Darth Vader. Thats way cool enjoy. B

Ladies and Gents, Please say hello to Dave Lee. The new guy in the band. Keyboards. Dave Lee, while new to the band, has been part of the extended family for years. We are more than excited to have Dave playin’ keys for us in the studio and on stage. Say Hi at the Deer Park show. Buy him a beer. No, wait, don’t, he doesnt drink. Or does he? I don’t remember, I’ll have to go back and check his application. On another note, the above pic was taken at the Dewey Beach Music Fest this past weekend. We got to see a bunch of friends we haven’t seen in a while. So not only was it cool to watch them perform again, but it was an added bonus to actually hang and have a drink. Be well. B

2007 was a great year for us. We did over 150 shows and by far was the best year we've ever had. After Shanghai, we took a bit of a break to kind of decompress and figure out where exactly it is we should go. Well, we think we have it figured out a bit. While SOULoh is still (and will always be) THE main project, all 3 of us have been working on a few other projects. Nick and I have been playing with Dr. D and the Infirmary. Jess and I got the duo thing happenin. Vin is working with Nate Hall and Danny Rich. All those dates are going to listed on our page so everyone knows whats up. Hope to see you all soon. Be good. We went up to see Chew and Pat Mcgee at Maxwells in Hoboken. I saw this sticker in the dressing while we were hanging out. It made me laugh.

The EP is done. We are happy to report Mother and Baby are fine. Our part of it any way. Ming still has to mix. We'll be there when it happens, but the hard part for us is over. We didn't quite stick to the no overdub policy. It's next to impossible not to overdub. You get in the studio and while listening to play back, you hear something that has to be there. Most of the time it was vocals that got added. Not all overdubbed vocals were singing either. Thats a hint. Tracks 1, 3 and 4 are the new ones. You've heard track 2 before but it's no longer an acoustic track. Track 5 had to make an appearance, it just did. See ya soon. I'm currently listening to: Ian Walsh: Please Remember. His stuff doesn't show up in the search here on myspace. Find it here.... http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=177795499

We have 2 bits of news to share. Both, we think, are bits of good news.
1. We have booked out first show back in the states....We have to hold off on making the official announcement until a few more very minor details get worked out. We are very excited, the place is very near, and "Deer" to us. The details will all be polished out in the next few days and an annoucement will follow shortly
2. We are finishing up recording this week and next week begin mixing on the "the Shanghai EP". A fairly unoriginal name for a project we know, it just seemed to fit. We recorded a lot of tracks for this release. We are going to narrow it down to about 5, so I can't tell you guys exactly whats on it but I do know that there is going to be NEW SOULoh tunes included. We took a stripped down approach recording this time. It's just the 3 of us. No overdubbs, no keys, now Rhodes, no choirs, no horns, no loops, no samples. Basically, all we do here is play and we thought it made sense to showcase that.
3rd bit of news, just for fun. 3. I've recently started working with a guitar pickup/pedal company, Tonerider. I have been using the prototype of the overdrive pedal for a few weeks now and can't wait to get my hands on the finished product. Big thanks to Andrew Cunningham. One of the coolest dudes out there. I'd hang with him even if he didn't make good shit.
Also, Check out Sara Bareilles. She is in our top friends. She is AMAZING. I wish I could say we knew her. I met her once in Virginia and she was nice but never in a million years would I ever consider saying we are peoples. I will say that we have been fans for years. I was in North Carolina and she opened for Maroon 5 at Elon College back in '03. From what I hear she is back on the road with them and they are playing the Wachovia in October. Her album came out in the begining of July and has become a staple at 27C in Shanghai.
Hope this BLOG finds you all well. Words can't express how much we miss you guys.
Soon enough. Please check back this week.
Peace, Love and all that wonderful stuff. B
