Get your booty to Bettie Booty Camp, which starts Sept 13th, 5-7pm at Lynden Skateway. You'll need to bring $5 and be ready to rock n' roll with the Bettie Training team. Booty Camp will prepare you with basic derby skills so helmet, mouthguard, wrist guards and knee & elbow pads are recommended. If you don't have your own skates, you can rent a pair. Try Outs will occur at the end of the 8-week Booty Camp, and you'll need to be at least 21 years old in order to try out. If you have any questions, email training@bellinghamrollerbetties.com

The Bellingham Roller Betties are pleased to invite your league to the F*N AWESOME N*W FEST on Sunday, August 31st, 2008. We're hosting Team Awesome up in Bellingham (WA) for a rollergirl- only all day open scrimmage at our venue, the Bellingham Sportsplex. (Just in case you haven't heard of Team Awesome, they're a roster of some of the best skaters from around the United States, including Ivanna S.Pankin, Jackie Daniels, Dahmernatrix, Trish the Dish and more!) Because we know that everyone wants to skate along side these women, open scrimmages will be of the Black Shirt vs. White Shirt variety.
Pick a team, put on the appropriate shirt, stand in line and when it's your turn, go in and skate a jam. Bring both colors, with your name and number on the back, in case you want to switch teams midway through the day. And as if the open scrimmages weren't enough bad-ass derby action for you, Team Awesome will be skating in a full length bout against a local league that we all know and love. We can't tell you who it is yet, but we can promise you that it's a Really Amazing Team…
Scrimmage Information
The F*N AWESOME N*W FEST will be at our bout venue: The Bellingham Sportsplex (www. belinghamsportsplex. com).
We'll be setting up our Skate Court floor – it's slick, so bring grippy pusher wheels.
The Bellingham Roller Betties will be providing snacks and water for all participants, but please bring a sack lunch – it's gonna be a long day.
And if you don't want to sit on the floor the whole day, bring a chair or a cushion.
THERE WILL BE NO BLEACHER ACTION!
Full gear (knee and elbow pads, wrist guards, helmet and mouth guard) is required to participate.
We adore fresh meat and rookies, but all skaters participating in the scrimmages must meet WFTDA Minimum Skills.
The refs reserve the right to bench any skater whose skating endangers other skaters.
Registration Information: Entry is $10, for both skaters and spectators.
The F*N AWESOME N*W FEST is NOT open to the general public.
Preregistration is preferred, because it'll make the line at the door easier to manage, but we won't turn anyone away at the door.
Registration forms will be sent out to each league contact a couple weeks before the event.
All skaters must have either USARS or RSC (Canada), and it must be verified by the Bellingham Roller Betties. If you don't have it, we'll have $15 USARS event insurance available at the door.
Refs and Scorekeepers: We love our refs and scorekeepers! Any ref/scorekeeper/statistician interested in participating, please contact info@..., and our own Miz N.
Tara Gator will contact you. Ref/Scorekeeper/Statistician volunteers will get in free.
Merch and Vendors: We all love wearing each other's shirts and sporting each other's stickers, so every league is welcome to bring merch to swap, sell and share.
There's no vendor fee other than the fee to get in the door and your league gets to keep whatever you make.
Are you a Rollergirl who owns a business, and are interested in vending? Please contact info@bellinghamrollerbetties.com to make arrangements.
Skater-owned business vending fee is $25, which includes a table and one entry.
Accommodations: The F*N AWESOME N*W FEST is smack-dab in the middle of Labor Day Weekend, so we figure some of you might want to stay the night.
Our venue is a couple of blocks away from two hotels: Travelodge Bellingham (360-733-8280) and Best Western Lakeway Inn (360-671- 1011).
Or, if you're looking for a cheap alternative, Larabee State Park is just a short and lovely drive.

Current mood: busy
Where has Betty been, you ask... Well, we have been working hard to bring derby to Bellingham, and it's working! In the last few months we have been very busy.
It all started to really roll in early April with an 80's party and a huge garage sale, and was followed by our Prom of the Dead at Rumors in late April. Then, in May, we marched in the annual "Ski to Sea" parade (a Bellingham tradition), and also spent a day on campus at Western Washington University educating the masses about roller derby!
With a very successful burlesque show at the Nightlight Lounge in early June, running a dunk tank at the Bellingham Harley-Davidson Annual Bike Show in mid-June, displaying our crafty ladies' art in a local celebration of artists in early July, walking in the Gay Pride Parade this last weekend (check it out here: http://www.bellinghamherald.com/102/story/130591.html )and walking in the "Relay for Life" fundraiser for cancer this last weekend as well, we have kept ourselves busy and our community interested in our endeavors.
We have several events coming up, and would love it if you would stop by and say hello--and it wouldn't hurt if you dropped a buck or two down for a sticker or other merchandise, as we are raising money for our floor so that we can bout here at home!
Look for us at the upcoming Rat City bout (7/28) where we will be slingin' our merch--a great chance for all of you out-of-towners to get yourselves that Betties t-shirt or tank you've been wanting!
Also, on a local note, we will be running another dunk tank at the B'ham Harley-Davidson shop this upcoming Saturday (7/21) from 9-4, and hosting a carwash at the Bellingham Public Market from 10-3 on Saturday, 7/28. Please stop by and show some support to your local rollergirls!
Stay tuned for updates on August events, coming soon...
And last, but not least, our website is officially up! Check it out at:

Let us know what you think! And, as always, thanks for your interest in the Bellingham Roller Betties.

It's over with. We had a great turnout for tryouts last night, and will be making calls over the next couple of days to invite women to join us. We had a blast, and everyone that came to skate did an awesome job! The fact that so many showed up and put themselves out there like that is admirable, for sure!
We were really excited to see so many women interested in joining us on our path to world domination through roller derby.
Thank you to all of the women who came out and gave it their all. There was such a diverse crowd, which we love, and the women were great. It was really cool to see the energy that each of you brought with you, and to chat and learn a bit more about why you were there... We understand; WE LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ROLLER DERBY, TOO!
If you missed this tryout session, or made it but aren't recruited this go around, please keep posted--there will be another one in the near future, and we would love to see another great crowd. Get on those skates, and get rolling!

SO....
It seems as though Bellingham wants their roller derby!!! We have just had our first wave of publicity, and are so excited to have so many people in our community interested in roller derby.
Take a look at the article spread, and the audio slide show that Kie Relyea at the Bellingham Herald put together on us: http://www.bellinghamherald.com/129/story/51601.htm
The Klipsun, the journalism dept. at WWU's endeavor, also featured us in the magazine that just came out last week. They gave us front and back cover, and the feature article!!! Check it out here: http://klipsun.wwu.edu/ Be sure to download the pdf version so you can see the whole article--it looks great!
Now all we need to do is find someone with a spare warehouse they want to let us skate in... for free... or at least VERY cheap. Know someone? Send them our way! In the meantime support your local roller girls by checking out the articles, and coming to our upcoming events! We've got some great stuff brewin' for Summertime.

The Bellingham Roller Betties are taking over Bellingham! Stay tuned for the announcement of our upcoming events.... We have great stuff in the works for our public introduction, and we're going to want you there. We're going to live it up the way only Betties can; you don't want to miss it!
In the meantime you'll just have to enjoy the new profile overhaul, including the addition of a sweet collection of pictures and the unveiling of our official slogan ("Breakin' Hearts & Body Parts"--the catchy brainchild of our very own Hot Snotty) and then tell us how much you love it all!
Questions? Ask them... Comments? Leave them... Betties? Love them...

A small handful of Betties were able to make it down to the Rat City open practice to represent... While it was similar to the nerve working of the first day of high school for a kid covered in acne, ladies from all over the Pacific Northwest extended welcoming, wrist-guarded hands to us newbies and made us feel welcome. By the end of the night we had gleaned some great practice tips, organizational insights, and new friends in the derby world; and we didn't even break anything!
As the newest league in NW Washington we are stoked to have had the opportunity to learn from Rat City and all of the women that made the trek there from Oregon to Canada.... It was awesome to see so many women on eight wheels skating under one roof--even if it did cost the comfort of living comfortably in our bodies in trade for soreness in places I didn't even know that muscles existed in... Thanks again for everything, ladies.
*A special thanks goes to Betty Ford Galaxy (RCRG), Benj Ya Over (Oly Rollers), and Barbalicious (Jet City) for taking us under their wings with no questions asked*

Some girls get down... And some girls get derby... We Betties get both!
We had a honky tonkin' good time on Saturday at our first shindig, and there will soon be lots of pictures posted to prove it. With pearly-buttoned western shirts, screamin' music from Howlin' Lane Fernando, tasty brew from the Anacortes Brewery, honky food dishes galore, and some good ole fashioned local color, this party was a hoot! If you were there, you know what I mean. If you missed it, you missed out! Don't worry, though, we'll be sure to post a bulletin when the pictures are up...
If you missed us this time around be sure to keep posted for our upcoming "Meet & Greet" in early 2007, where you'll have another chance to rub elbows and compare bruises with the baddest group of women this side of the Cascades...

That's Right... We're having our very first shindig--a HONKY TONK, that is--and we want you to be there! Help support your local Betties by listening to live music, drinking good beer (courtesy of the Anacortes Brewery), participating in the BYOHD (bring your own honky dish) potluck, and hanging out with some beautiful Roller Betties! All we ask in return is that you come prepared to have a blast, with $5 in your hand for cover! All proceeds go toward jump-starting our league, so help a sista out! The flyer is on the home page; we'll see you there...
