*It is strongly recommended that dancers interested in auditioning for the 2008 company attend the 1/06/08 Sunday Morning "Tread" Class taught by Johnston from 10am-12pm prior to the audition.

Johnston is looking for mature, experienced and courageous dance artists with athletic physicality's who have total commitment for passionately engaging rigorous rehearsals and highly demanding training processes.

Ledges and Bones has received critical acclaim for their 2006 & 2007 Seasons with the upcoming 2008 Season expanding their presence throughout North America!

(note: if you are a "dancer for hire" solely looking for gigs that pay "big bucks" this may not be the right time to audition for LABdp. we are committed to paying our dancers performance stipends and will be adding a very modest monthly stipend for rehearsals but cannot at this point guarantee the amount of the stipends, this depends on the overall budget for 2008. thank you)

 Performing Core:
looking for 3-4 women and 2-4 men

Rehearsal Schedule: must be available to commit to rehearsals approx. 8-15hrs/week as well as all Tech./Dress and Performance dates between Jan. 2008-June 2008.

Individual artists may be invited to extend their performance contracts for projects completing in the latter half of 2008.

Current bookings: Los Angeles dates in May & possibly late July/early Aug., possible NYC dates in late May, June & possibly November in San Francisco.

Performance Fees: stipend/honorarium paid for performances, rehearsals and promotional event/activities including performances at the LABdp "Start A Revolution" Benefit Party scheduled for March 2008!!!

DANCE: The Commuter Festival, a new annual concert presented by The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance, features work by locally based choreographers as part of an ongoing exchange among the educational and professional communities of the greater Los Angeles area. This year's guest artists include Monica Favand Campagna, of Trip Dance Theater; Bradley Michaud, of Method Dance; Holly Johnston, of Ledges and Bones Dance Project; Hassan Christopher, of Company of Strangers; and CalArts alumna Liz Hoefner.

"UNDERBELLY - REVISITED"

Another installment of the ongoing series featuring an evening of cutting edge dance exploring the raw and stripped-down facets of the human experience.

 

Underbelly, produced by Bradley Michaud and Holly Johnston in association with the Diavolo Dance LAB, is an evening that features new works from 3 Los Angeles area dance artists: Holly Johnston's Ledges and Bones Dance Project, Bradley Michaud's METHOD Contemporary Dance, and Maria Gillespie's Oni Dance.

About UNDERBELLY…   Recognizing the need to support new contemporary dance work in the City of Los Angeles, members of Los Angeles's new contemporary dance hub have organized an evening which features the work of Holly Johnston's Ledges and Bones Dance Project and Bradley Michaud's METHOD Contemporary Dance with special guest Maria Gillespie's Oni Dance.  All three of the choreographers will be presenting new work, favorite repertory or sneak previews as part of the UNDERBELLY program. The title of the evening refers to the dark and uncovered depths of the human experience, delving into raw emotion, brute physicality, and terrestrial dance vocabulary.

 This year's program includes daily technique classes with Johnston, choreographic development/composition, a workshop over multiple days on sound and dance with innovative musician David Karagianis, new works and repertory. All this will culiminate in a showcase performance on July 7th at 7pm. This show is open to the public and tickets are available by reservation at: tickets@ledgesandbones.org

The Elements:

movement technique- contemporary dance technique with holly johnston, intermediate/advanced level.

composition laboratory-exploration of compositional devices and tools. we will experiment with these tools to create dances that live inside the imagination and outside the mainstream. we will focus on movement innovation the relationship of sound and visual action, improvisation and process.

new choreography -new work created by Johnston with the workshop participants. by audition, due to anticipated number of participants.

Workshop Performance Showcase- performance will be held the last day of the workshop at The Diavolo Space.  we will perform LABdp Repertory, the new works that emerged from studies explored during the Choreography Lab; as well as a new work Johnston creates with the workshop participants.  Johnston, Ledges and Bones Dance Project and Diavolo would like to invite the Los Angels dance community, dance professionals, dance educators, special guests, friends and patrons to attend this special performance event.

$75 nonrefundable deposit is required with the return
of your enrollment application in order to reserve your placement in the workshop.
