GOTHICFEST RETURNS TO CHICAGO ON OCTOBER 12 AND 13

TRENTON, N.J. – After a successful debut in 2005, Gothicfest will return to Chicago this October 12 and 13 at the Excalibur with another outstanding lineup of music and grand expo featuring everything significant to the gothic subculture.

"Excalibur is the ideal setting for a gothic festival and expo," said Jeffrey Swanson, promoter for Gothicfest. "We are bringing in DJs, a suspension act and a multimedia projection show featuring highlights from many of the greatest gothic and horror films ever made."

This year's musical lineup will feature 30 bands, including Bella Morte, Attrition, Red Flag, Piviot Man, Grigori 3, Regenerator, Ghost Orgy, Element a440, Deepest Symphony, The Vivid Twisted, Sin Division, Volkmar, 13 Winters, and many more on two alternating stages of continuous music.

Los Angeles' DJ Absynthesis, hailed by the Austin Chronicle as, "a driving force..." and up for awards including "Best DJ", "Best Electronica", and "Keyboardist of the Year" in Houston, will be the featured DJ on Saturday night. Music appearing alongside Aphex Twin, Skinny Puppy, Covenant, and The Chemical Brothers on "Project Gotham Racing III" for Xbox360 have put this emerging producer-artist on a fast track to global respect and recognition.

Also appearing will be DJ Genesis, a Hollywood-based transplant from Houston , creates and implements audio for one of the world's largest game publishers, Midway Games, as Project Audio Director. He's a founding member of up-and-coming electronica act Phase Theory, working alongside producer/singer/composer Kirk Grahman and composer/songwriter Jonathan Kramm. During his years in Houston , he was not only resident DJ at Club 1415, but also became part of the management team and helped turn the club from five-star restaurant to one of Houston 's most popular nighttime attractions. He has shared decks with such DJs such as DJ Keoki of Club Party Monster fame, DJ Skot formerly of Haujobb, Absynthesis, Colonel Clique, Breye7x of Provision, and DJ Tommy Sunshine, and worked with such notable groups as The Azoic, Provision, Vertigo Blue, Luna Tex, Brio Kids, Asmodeus X, System Syn, Imperative Reaction, and many more.

In addition to music, North America 's largest gothic festival and expo is the official expo for the gothic subculture, featuring tattoos, extreme exhibits, clothing, fashion, body art, and accessories.

313 Suspension Team, a suspension team based out of Chicago, also with chapters in Madison, Wis., and Tuscon, Ariz., will perform at Gothicfest with Ammunition, a 313 Suspension Team Performance Artist/Spokesmodel/Muse/Art Model/Fetish Model/Pain Slut/Nihilist. Founded in Madison in 2002 by Steve Bennett (head of Chicago Chapter and 313 USA) and John Kid (head of Madison Chapter), the team is a collective of piercers, performance artist, riggers, and individuals with a shared interest in suspension.

Numerous exhibitors will be on hand, including Graveyard Theatre, which has been bringing horror movies to television sets since 1997. Graveyard Theatre will hold its 10-year anniversary party at Gothicfest 2007. Cast and crew will be on hand, and throughout the Gothicfest weekend the group will host famous horror movie celebrities and more.

The Excalibur in downtown Chicago is a castle-like building designed by Henry Ives Cobb and built in 1892. The massive multi-room, nine-level maze can be a bit intimidating at first. With its gothic overtones, dark winding corridors and spiral staircases, it should come as no surprise that the space was once a downtown church. According to rumors, the building was also used to house corpses from a shipwreck before it was turned into the Limelight Nightclub by Peter Gatien in 1985. It is also rumored that the building was a place of Satanic rituals.

Tickets are $32.50 per day and $55.00 for a weekend pass. Tickets will be available at Ticketmaster.com and at all Ticket Master outlets. Due to adult themes, this will be a 21 and over event.
